GONZAGA SERIES INFO Sunday s contest marks the third meeting between Texas and Gonzaga. The Bulldogs have won both previous matchups. Both prior meetings have come at neutral sites. In the first meeting (Nov. 23, 2001), Gonzaga recorded a 67-64 win in the semifinals of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage. UT went on to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 that season. In the most recent matchup (Dec. 2, 2006), the No. 22 Bulldogs registered an 87-77 victory in the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge in Phoenix. That Texas team featured Kevin Durant, who went on to earn consensus National Player of the Year honors. DUKE GAME NOTES Texas fell to 0-5 in the all-time series against Duke. The Horns dropped to 0-10 all-time in matchups against the AP No. 1 team. UT fell to 48-51 all-time in overtime contests. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak in overtime games for the Longhorns. Texas led for a total of 37:13 in the contest. The Horns held a 43-31 halftime advantage, recording 10 assists against just 3 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. Texas led by as much as 16 points (62-46) following a Dylan Osetkowski dunk with 10:25 remaining. Mohamed Bamba reached double figures in rebounds (10) for the third time this year (4 games). He had 2 blocked shots, marking his fourth consecutive game with at least 2 blocks to start his collegiate career (has 15 total in his first 4 games). Andrew Jones reached double figures in scoring (16 points) for the fourth time this season (5 games) and 26th time in his career (38 games). YEAR 3 OF THE SHAKA SMART ERA Shaka Smart was introduced as the 24th head basketball coach at The University of Texas on April 3, 2015. The 40-year-old Smart spent six seasons (2009-15) at Virginia Commonwealth University, leading the Rams to an overall record of 163-56 (.744) and five NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2011 Final Four. In nine seasons overall as a collegiate head coach, Smart has compiled a 198-92 (.683) record. Six of his eight previous teams have advanced to NCAA Tournament play. BALANCED ATTACK WHILE PROTECTING THE ROCK Texas has a solid 64-to-48 assists-to-turnover ratio (1.33 ratio) through its first five games. Through the first five contests, four UT players are averaging double figures in scoring (Andrew Jones, Dylan Osetkowski, Kerwin Roach II and Mohamed Bamba) and three more are averaging at least 5.8 ppg (Matt Coleman, Jacob Young and Eric Davis Jr.). DOUBLE-DOUBLE DYLAN Junior forward Dylan Osetkowski (pronounced: oh-set-cowskee) is off to an impressive start for the Longhorns. He has recorded a pair of double-doubles and is averaging 13.0 points (second on the team) and 8.2 rebounds (second on the team) in 28.8 minutes per game through the first five contests. He recorded a season-high 19 points (9-20 FG), 7 rebounds (4 offensive), a season-high 5 assists against 2 turnovers and 2 steals in a career-high 44 minutes against No. 1/1 Duke (Nov. 24). Osetkowski tallied 12 points (4-4 FT) and 7 boards in 32 minutes against Butler (Nov. 23). He registered a game-high 17 points and a game-high 14 boards and 2 steals in 34 minutes against New Hampshire (Nov. 14). Osetkowski posted a double-double with 13 points (5-11 FG) and 10 rebounds (5 offensive) in just 21 minutes of action against Northwestern State (Nov. 10). He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Tulane University (2014-15 and 2015-16) and played in 65 career games for the Green Wave. He sat out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules. As a sophomore at Tulane (2015-16), Osetkowski registered a team-best 11 double-doubles and led the squad in rebounding (8.3 rpg) while starting all 34 games for the Green Wave. He ranked third on the team in scoring (11.3 ppg) and second in minutes (32.4 mpg). MO KNOWS Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba leads the team in rebounding (10.0 rpg) and blocks (15) and is fourth on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg) through his first four games. He has reached double figures in scoring twice and reached double figures in rebounds three times while converting 16-29 (.552) from the floor. He recorded a team-high 10 rebounds, 9 points and 2 blocks in 26 minutes against No. 1/1 Duke (Nov. 24). Bamba tallied a game-high 12 boards and 4 blocks in addition to 6 points in 32 minutes against Butler (Nov. 23). After missing the UNH game due to a concussion sustained in practice on Nov. 12, he returned to action against Lipscomb (Nov. 18) and recorded 13 points (5-8 FG), 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in 19 minutes. Bamba recorded a team-high 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 FT) to go along with 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 1 steal in just 23 minutes in his collegiate debut against Northwestern State (Nov. 10). His 4 blocks were just one shy of the UT freshman debut record (5 by James Banks III in the 2016-17 opener). Bamba earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference co-newcomer of the Week honors (Nov. 13) for his efforts in the season-opening win.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES Sophomore guard Andrew Jones returns for his second season in the backcourt rotation. Jones has played in 38 games (28 starts) and reached double figures in scoring 26 times. Through the first five games this year, Jones leads the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) while hitting 26-54 (.481) field goals and 12-14 (.857) free throws in 25.8 minutes per contest. In the first two games at the PK80, he has averaged a team-high 16.0 ppg and 3.0 apg while converting 50% (12-24) field goals in 31.0 minutes per contest. Jones tied his season high with 16 points (5-11 FG, 4-4 FT) and added a season-high 6 assists against 1 turnover in 33 minutes against No. 1/1 Duke (Nov. 24). He tied his season high with 16 points (7-13 FG) and 4 boards in 29 minutes against Butler (Nov. 23). Jones tallied 16 points (6-11 FG, 3-3 FT), 4 rebounds and 2 steals in 23 minutes against New Hampshire (Nov. 14). He recorded 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists without a turnover in 22 minutes against Northwestern State (Nov. 10). Jones tied for the team lead in assists (117, 3.5 apg) and ranked second on the team in steals (41), third in scoring (11.4 ppg), fourth in minutes played (27.9 mpg) and tied for fourth in rebounding (3.9 rpg) last season. He converted 77.5 percent (86-111) from the free throw line last year. In Big 12 Conference play as a freshman, Jones averaged 12.1 points in 31.5 minutes per contest. In two games at last year s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, he averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 33.5 minutes per contest. COLEMAN TAKES THE POINT Freshman point guard Matt Coleman has recorded an impressive 21-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio through the first five contests. He leads the squad in assists (21) and steals (7) and is averaging 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in a team-high 29.2 minutes per game. Coleman registered a career-high 9 assists against 1 turnover and added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals in 35 minutes against Butler (Nov. 23). He tallied 10 points (4-7 FG) and 3 rebounds in 22 minutes against Lipscomb (Nov. 18). Coleman recorded 11 points (3-4 FG, 1-1 threes, 4-5 FT), 2 steals and 7 assists without a turnover in just 22 minutes against Northwestern State (Nov. 10). His 7 assists against Northwestern State marked a tie for the third-highest number of assists in a freshman debut in UT history (T.J. Ford holds the mark with 14 against Arizona in the 2001-02 opener). ROACH S RESUME Junior guard Kerwin Roach II returns for his third season in the backcourt rotation and has embraced the role of defensive stopper. He has played in 70 career games (36 starts). Roach has topped the 20-point mark twice and reached double figures in scoring 30 times. Through the first five games, Roach ranks third on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) in 27.6 minutes per game while hitting 25-38 (.658) field goals. In the first two games at the PK80, he has averaged 13.0 ppg while converting 71.4% (10-14) field goals in 32.5 minutes per contest. Roach has reached double figures in scoring in four of the first five contests this year. He has an impressive 11-to-5 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranks second on the team in steals (5). Roach tallied 18 points (7-9 FG, 1-1 threes) in a career-high 44 minutes against No. 1/1 Duke (Nov. 24). He posted a team-high 16 points (7-8 FG, 2-3 FT) in 24 minutes during the win against Lipscomb (Nov. 18). Roach had 12 points (4-7 FG) in 25 minutes against New Hampshire (Nov. 14). He registered 10 points, 4 assists against 1 turnover and a teamhigh 3 steals in a team-best 24 minutes against Northwestern State (Nov. 10). Roach played in 32 of a possible 33 games (31 starts) last year. He led the team in steals (51) and tied for the team lead in assists (117, 3.7 apg), ranked fourth in scoring (9.9 rpg), tied for fourth in rebounding (3.9 rpg) and third in minutes played (30.0 mpg) as a sophomore. He earned a spot on the six-person Big 12 All-Newcomer Team in 2015-16. Roach was a two-time Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selection (Feb. 1 and March 6). He played in all 33 games (22 starts) last year and ranked third on the team in assists (34), sixth in scoring (7.1 ppg) and fifth in minutes played (26.7 mpg). Davis earned a spot on the six-person Big 12 All-Newcomer Team in 2015-16. He was a two-time Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week (Nov. 30 and Dec. 14). YOUNG S RETURN Sophomore guard Jacob Young returns for his second year in the backcourt rotation. He has played in 38 games (5 starts) and has reached double figures in scoring 5 times. In the first five contests this year, Young ranks sixth on the team in scoring (6.8 ppg) while hitting 12-22 (.545) field goals, including 6-14 (.429) three-pointers, in just 11.2 minutes per game. He posted 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-5 threes), 3 boards and 1 steal in 10 minutes against New Hampshire (Nov. 14). He tied his career high in field goals made and threes made. Young recorded 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 threes) in just 14 minutes against Northwestern State (Nov. 10).

SIMS FINDING HIS NICHE Freshman forward Jericho Sims has emerged as the third frontcourt option for the Longhorns early this season. Sims is averaging 5.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game through the first five games. He ranks second on the team in blocks (5) and has converted 64.7% (11-17) from the floor. Sims tied his season high with 8 points (4-5 FG), 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in 20 minutes against No. 1/1 Duke (Nov. 24). He earned the start against New Hampshire (Nov. 14) and tallied 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks in a season-high 21 minutes. IMPRESSIVE THREE-POINT STREAK The last time Texas did NOT convert a 3-pointer in a contest came on Dec. 18, 1990, in an 87-84 overtime victory at UC Santa Barbara. The Horns were 0-of-2 from beyond the arc that day. The Longhorns enter Sunday s contest having hit at least one 3-pointer in 896 consecutive games. In fact, UT has converted at least one 3-pointer in 1,024 of 1,031 games since the 3-pointer was introduced prior to the 1986-87 season. The Horns have failed to ATTEMPT at least one 3-pointer just one time in school history (Feb. 24, 1988 in a 69-55 win at ).
