General Meeting Minutes November 28, 2017 Call to Order Emily Weaver, President Congratulations: -Winter Guard (18 students) and Middle School Guard (9 students) have been selected and are actively preparing for their season ahead. -Howell Drumline has also begun and FHN has a large presence in the group again this year. -Metro 8 participants. FHN had a total of 11 students selected with an additional 4 students as alternates. All 15 students are qualified for try-outs for All State band this weekend. -Mr Stegeman awarded $500 from Tools for Teachers Thanks: -Mr Stegeman and all the parents that helped with the Veteran s Day Assembly. It was a great event! -Amy Prinster for all her work preparing for Middle School Curriculum Night to promote our band. Also, for all her work preparing to attend the Middle School Winter Concerts to represent Knightpride. Approval of the Minutes Char Helmick, Secretary Char asked everyone to review the attached October minutes. She noted there were no changes made to the version that was previously emailed. There was a motion to accept them made by Karen Basford and seconded by Cynthia Brewer. The motion passed. Treasurer s Report Wayne Prinster, Treasurer Wayne presented the budget and reviewed several of the line items with current activity. Some of the line items discussed: Booster operating, Senior committee, Event Support, Music in Motion and Winter Guard. There was a motion to accept the budget made by Jay Witte and seconded by Cynthia Brewer. The motion passed. Vice President s Report Sherri Brown, Vice President Sherri was unable to attend this meeting. Emily reminded everyone that anyone with outstanding fees should contact the Executive Board for a payment plan. Page 1

Directors Report Rob Stegeman Mr Stegeman was not in attendance. He was in Florida with Dominic Schneider attending the All National Honor Ensemble event. Emily shared this report after talking with Mr Stegeman. Jazz Band Fun concert last week. Great performance by all. Concert & Symphonic Bands Winter Concert Thursday, December 7th 7pm FHN Auditorium State auditions Saturday, December 2nd Hickman High School in Columbia, MO. Students are expected to arrive at the start of the day. Day begins approx. 8am, specific time TBA. Audition times will be provided to students upon arrival. Some instruments will have call backs after the initial audition. Students are expected to stay the duration of the day. Transportation is the responsibility of student and parents. All-State qualifiers will participate in NAME conference in January. Basketball Band Will play all Home Varsity Men s & Women s games; see attached schedule Colts Drum & Bugle Corps Auditions - Sunday, December 3rd at FHN. Open to all Brass students. All students are encouraged to audition. DCI season runs June August. Visit the Colts website for more information, including audition material. www.colts.org/schedulepreseason.html Large Ensembles (choirs) Woodwind Choir, Brass Choir & Percussion Ensembles all going well. Groups are choosing pieces, preparing for contests in March. Solo & Ensembles Students are encouraged to begin selecting music for the District Solo & Ensemble auditions held in March. Go to the MSHSAA website to search pieces for instrument. See Link to MSHSAA Prescribed Music List https://www.mshsaa.org/activities/info/musicactivities.aspx. Visit local music stores for availability. May choose to purchase. 2 original copies required for Solos. May choose to donate 2nd copy to school library after the audition. Will open a school tab for purchasing of Ensemble pieces. Stores will have the Missouri music list. Suggested music stores: Midwest Sheet Music https://www.midwestsheetmusic.com/, Music & Arts, Mozingo, BISCO Keep in mind that in Missouri there is no penalty for choosing a piece of music of lower difficulty. Student may choose A, B, or C level. Student may share ideas for music with Mr. Stegeman for feedback during selection process. Students are encouraged to begin this process now and have pieces chosen by mid-january. Page 2

Winter Guard - Breakfast with Santa Saturday, December 2nd. Promote and Invite family and friends. Help make this a success for the Guard. Other.. December/January Students will clean rooms & storage closet, and assist with cataloguing and inventory of instruments. Purchasing of new instruments plans are in the works for the purchase of a new Contra (marching Tuba), Synthesizer & 2 Euphoniums (Baritone). Purchases will be made with school funds. Parent help requested parent with welding experience requested to assist with repair of a Gateway Marimba. A bracket at the bottom needs repair. Please contact Mr. Stegeman if you can help. Elementary school recruitment FHN Students will be asked to assist with 5th grade recruitment events. More info to come. Coffee with the Principals positive pressure for additional staff Trivia Night January 13th, 2018 Promote, invite, spread the word. Silent Auction items will include large JUMP Trampoline (and extra top) & Jazz Band for summer concert. Thank you for your patience and understanding with replies to email & Facebook communication. Plan time is limited. Email is the best way to communicate. You may also drop by after school for a visit if a need arises. Committee Reports: Symphonic and Concert Band Stephanie Fairless Winter concert December 7 th, 7pm, FHN Auditorium Jazz Band Guy Argent Great concert last week! Guard Debbie Winkle Guard has a lot going on as they prepare for the winter season. Be watching for Sign-Up Genius opportunities to help. Candle Fundraiser due tonight (11/28), Breakfast with Santa this Saturday (12/2), Guard will attend the Winter band concert to support our band members, Parent Preview January 26- more details to come. Pit/Visual/Maintenance Chip Crow Social/Publicity/ Recognition/Banquet Tammy Siem Sunday, February 18 th is the date selected for our Winter Dance (there is no school on Monday 2/19). It will take place at the Sts Joachim and Ann Care Service Celebration Room. The deposit has been paid for this location and date. All band students are welcome to attend (not marching band only). It was discussed and approved in the Executive Committee meeting prior to the Booster Meeting that this will be a free event for the students. Food will be provided by event support with remaining budget. DJ and decorations will be covered by the Boosters. Next years marching show will be revealed at this event. The building will be available at 6pm (possibly earlier) for decorating. The event for students will be from 7-10pm. More details to come. Forms Colleen Chruma Band Camp Misty Bradbury, Julie Perry Uniforms Kate Statzer It was discussed and approved in the Executive Committee meeting prior to the Booster Meeting, students with FFC paid in full, will be given their Jump uniform. For guard, this will not include the yellow shirt. Kate will be working with Mr Stegeman to arrange times for students to pick up their uniforms. Middle School Communication Amy Prinster Amy was at the Curriculum Night Event during our meeting. Up coming events: Barnwell MS concert Thursday, 11/30 and Hollenbeck MS concert 12/4. Amy will be looking for volunteers to help represent our band program at these events. Senior Committee Mark & Janet Schneider Page 4

Event Support Christie Kolath, Kristi Gordon There are 2 unclaimed coolers for our last band competition (one blue and one silver). They are located in the hallway of the storage area. Pictures will be posted on Facebook as a reminder. Come get your cooler, if they belong to you. Fundraising Vicky Balleydier Cardinal Calendar is a great opportunity for FFC earnings. Each calendar is $15 with $7 going to your FFC. You can request as many as you anticipate selling. If you re unable to sell them all, they can be returned in brand new condition. Request due by November 30 th, money due in January. Anticipate another Razoo event in the spring when the Jazz bands from all the Howell schools perform together. 4 current fundraising events: Cards Calendars, Winter Guard Candles, Breakfast with Santa, Trivia Family Arena Scott Kolath Christie gave report for Scott. There are 2 events in November. The 1 st event is this Friday (12/1) and next Friday (12/8). Be watching email tomorrow for opportunities to work this week. Logos Anne Perry Emily gave report for Anne. Order online by December 1 st for free delivery by December 15 th. These make great Christmas gifts. You can find the link on our website. Overnight Trip Tracy Hansen Scrip Matt Temper The December dates are switched from Tuesday 12/5 to Wednesday 12/6. Reminder emails will be sent. There was a recent issue with over selling and special priced item. In the future, these will be sold on a 1 st come 1 st serve basis. There are some other specials anticipated in the near future and they will be handled this way. Any questions, contact Matt. Trivia Night- January 13 th, Knights of Columbus Cottleville, doors open 6:15pm Lots of information going out on Facebook and email as the wheels are rolling to prepare for this. Attached to the minutes are forms for donations requests (these are tax deductible) and invitation details. We are seeking donations for: raffle basket items, silent auction items and Page 5

round sponsors ($50 to sponsor a round). We need your help in gathering these donations. There will also be a 50/50 at the event. SignUp Genius will come out for a small number of volunteers needed (approx. 15). There is space for 40+ tables. Start passing out the invites and help us fill those tables, it s going to be a great night! If you ve never attended, consider attending. It s a great opportunity to interact with the leadership of our school. -John reported there are 51 schools signed up for Art in Motion on March 24 th. They will again be doing the pre-order food, this was a big hit and received great feedback. They are considering doing a Rent a Room, the details of this still need worked out. More info to come related to sponsorship opportunities for this event. -Jamie Scott has collected video of the marching band performances from September 30 th to the end of the season. If anyone else has the performances prior to (9/30), please let him know. There was brief discussion about creating a file that would have all the performances in one location.
