MMHS Eagle HighFLIGHTS: 2-5-18 *MMHS ELLEVÉS TAKE 4 th AT STATE 5A DRILL COMPETITION: On Thursday, February 1, 2018, the MMHS Ellevés competed in the State 5A Semi Finals Drill Team Competition held at UVU. Teams were placed in pods of four based on their placement from region competition. Two teams from each pod advanced to the finals. The Ellevés were one of the two teams who advanced to the finals from their pod. On Saturday, February 3, 2018, the Ellevés competed in the finals and placed 3 rd in the military category, 3 rd in the dance category, and 4 th in the character category. Overall Maple Mountain placed 4 th. There were nine 5A schools competing. In the 5A Drill Down competition, Kacey Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton, won 2 nd place over all. Three Ellevés were named to the 5A All-State Dance Team Tiffany Asay, daughter of Dwayne and Suzanne Asay; Hannah Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch; and Annie Merrill, daughter of Chris and Melisa Merrill. Each 5A team sent three girls to learn a routine that they auditioned in front of judges and then 16 girls were selected as the A All-State Dance Team. At the State Finals, each member of the All-State Team performed a short, self-choreographed routine and was presented a medal. Two Ellevés were named to the 5A Academic All-State team Tiffany Asay, daughter of Dwayne and Suzanne Asay and Hannah Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch. Each 5A school could nominate seniors on their team with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Only ten seniors are named to this team. The combined average of this year s 5A Academic All-State Team was 3.996. Tiffany Asay was also awarded the 5A UDDA Drill Team Scholarship. This award was based on an essay she wrote and submitted. Ellevé Coach Molly Brenchley was awarded the 5A Coach of the Year award. She has been coaching for the past 27 years 8 years at Maple Mountain since the school opened and 19 years prior to that at Payson High. The Ellevés would like to thank all of the students, parents, administration, and fans who came to State. We really appreciate all of your support this year! Other Important Information: *February Parent/Teacher Conference: Our next Parent/Teacher Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14 th, from 3:30-6:30pm, in the auxiliary gym. We encourage parents and students to attend these informative conferences. What a great way to learn about your student s academic progress, visit with their teachers, check on their attendance (Mrs. Davis, our attendance secretary, will have a table set-up at the conference). Please mark this important event on your calendar and plan on attending!!! Utah Higher Education Day for Juniors: College Representatives from Utah will be here this Wednesday, February 7th, for our Juniors. Colleges will provide information pertaining to their specific institution and will answer any questions students may have regarding their school. Junior students will gather in the auditorium

at 8:00 AM for a general session, then have the opportunity to attend three breakout sessions of their choice to hear from different schools they're interested in during A1 & A2. It will be eventful morning full of knowledge from higher education schools to help our Juniors start thinking about life after high school. *Driver Education: The February Driver Education class will start this Thursday, February 8 th. For those enrolled, we will start at 7:00 PM in the MMHS auditorium. This is the parent meeting. Students are required to attend and it is strongly recommended that at least one parent come. The meeting will last until about 8:15 PM. This will be the first class. The remaining classes will be from Friday, February 9 th until Tuesday, March 6 th. Class will not be held on February 19 th. If a student cannot attend the parent meeting, please email eric.hyer@nebo.edu right away to work out other arrangements. Zero Fatalities: The Zero Fatalities group from Salt Lake City will be here for their monthly presentation to the driver education students. This presentation is required for students, but is open to the general public. Anyone is welcome to attend. It is a great presentation that adults and teens can benefit from attending. It will be held on Thursday, February 8 th in the MMHS auditorium. It begins at 7:00 PM and will end about 8:15. *Microsoft DigiGirlz Event: We're excited to invite any of our girls to register for DigiGirlz on February 13. Students interact with Microsoft employees to learn about careers in business and technology. If your daughter is a "techy", this event is for her! Young women can find out about the variety of opportunities available in the high-tech industry and can explore future career paths. The link to register is http://www.eiseverywhere.com/310432 Please let Mrs. Dunn in C100 know if your student plans on registering for the event so we can plan for transportation and permission forms. Space is limited! *SheTech Explorer Days: MMHS will be providing a bus to take 10th-12th grade girls to SheTech Explorer Days. This is a FREE industry-centered hands-on interactive STEM exploration day that is focused on fun activities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Girls can register online or see Mrs. Robyn Dunn for help registering. Registration with our school closes soon and is limited to the first 50 students to sign up. For more information on the event, please visit www.shetechexplorer.com There is also an info flyer included at the end of this e-mail. *Domino s Pizza for Lunch: Our school has been selected to host a pilot program with Domino s Pizza!!! Every Wednesday, during the month of February, students will have the opportunity of having Domino s Pizza as part of their school lunch meal selection. Students will pay for this option the same as they would pay for a regular student lunch. Three varieties will be offered: cheese, pepperoni, and a surprise variety, which will change each week. Being that pizza is so popular and a lunch favorite, this will be a fun addition to our school lunch program. *Senior Ads: Hello Parents! It is time to start thinking about congratulating your senior for completing high school! Crazy, right? One way to congratulate your senior is to get a senior ad placed in the yearbook. Senior ads are available to purchase at Maple Mountain's finance office. These are the important dates and prices to consider: February 9, 2018 is the FINAL DEADLINE to buy an ad. $20 if purchased before February 2. $30 if purchased after February 2.

4 things are needed for a senior ad: 1. ONE photo of your senior. 2. A few sentences congratulating your senior (if it s too long, it will be shortened). 3. A self-addressed envelope so your photo can be returned. 4. A copy of the receipt from the finance office. Give the envelope with the photo, sentences, and receipt to the main office secretary. Digital photos and sentences may be emailed to tyler.lewis@nebo.edu but the ad will not be created until a copy of the receipt is received. The yearbook staff will create the senior ads to fit the design of the yearbook, and all senior ads will be the same size. Questions? Call or email Mr. Lewis. tyler.lewis@nebo.edu 801.794.6740 ext 1563 *Attendance Information: Parents and students -- We encourage parents and students to weekly check student grades and attendance on SIS. Also, in that same area, student s citizenship grades may be viewed. If an NC is listed, that indicates an attendance problem and you will need to contact Mrs. Davis (Attendance Secretary) to find out more information on how to get the NC s cleared. *PTSA Corner: February is a busy month! Make sure you check out the following: Val-O-Grams Come share the love with your students, friends, teachers, and other people you care about at MMHS. Choose from carnations, stuffed animals, and Granny B cookies for $2 each and assorted candy for 50 -$1 each.
