Laclede County 4-H Clover News University of Missouri Extension March 2019 Edition Members, parents, and volunteers, Well it is hard to believe I wrote my first newsletter cover almost six years ago for the Laclede County 4-H Clover News. This will be my final edition. I am sure everyone knows by now I have finished up my stint as Youth Specialist in Laclede County. It sure has been a good ride and fun as well. When starting the job I anticipated it would be similar to my agriculture education and FFA position I had for many years at LTCC. I sure was wrong. The youth specialist position with MU Extension has some similarities, but mostly is a different position altogether. 4-H is a volunteer lead program. I quickly learned the value of those volunteers and how they drive what happens at the local level. I cannot emphasize enough the quantity and more importantly the quality of the volunteers in Laclede County. To those adult volunteers I want to say a heart-felt thank you for making Laclede County 4-H work on a monthly basis. We have seen our enrollment grow a great deal and even more importantly, I know for a fact the quality of our club meetings, our project meetings and our events has gotten better every year. Please continue to strive to keep up this good work. The question on most members and volunteer s minds the last couple weeks have been who and when will we get a replacement. Fortunately, sooner than later is what I hope is the case. The replacement should have the exact same job responsibilities I have had. They will be responsible for three counties and housed here at Lebanon. The person will have county engagement responsibilities, but their main focus should be the 4-H and youth programs. In the meantime, your go to person will be Velynda Cameron, youth specialist housed in Polk County (Bolivar). She will fill in until a replacement is found. She is experienced and will be capable of handling any 4-H questions that Jonetta Shaver cannot. Jonetta Shaver, our office secretary, and your club leaders will work together to keep things running smoothly. I have to believe this is a good time to make the change and Jonetta and your club leaders will continue to be the great resource they have been in the past. So, thanks for all the memories and accomplishments we have helped our youth create in the past six years. It has been a privilege to work with and for the 4-H members and parents and volunteers in Laclede County as a member of the MU Extension team.
