RECORD TYING POWER DISPLAY--Kansas City pitching was roughed up for a club record tying six home runs last night in dropping a 13-2 decision to the Tigers in the middle game of this series...it was the 10th time in franchise history the Royals allowed a half-dozen blasts and by no coincidence the 10th time KC wasn t victorious in the game...the last team to hit six in a contest vs. the Royals was this same Tiger squad on June 16, 2016 in Kauffman Stadium...as for last night, Jason Vargas worked a perfect first inning before getting tagged for seven tallies in the second, including a pair of home runs, to fall to 14-10 on the year...the Royals had a short-lived 1-0 lead when Whit Merrifield scored from third on a wild pitch, but that would be the last tally until Lorenzo Cain homered in the sixth after the Tigers built a 10-1 advantage... Kansas City enters play tonight a game under.500 and three games out of the final Wild Card spot, but in need of hurdling six other teams to qualify for Fall Ball. RUBBER GAME #13--Tonight is Kansas City s 13th rubber game of the season and third in as many series...the Royals were 5-4 winners in Minnesota to close out the first stop of this road trip to even the season mark at 6-6 in series deciding games...kc has won its last four rubber games away from The K... the Royals were 11-9 in series deciders last year. THE REMAINING OPPOSITION--Kansas City has just 25 games to go on the 2017 docket, with the remaining opponents holding a 485-482 overall record for a.502 winning percentage...of the seven opponents on the slate, four have winning records (Cleveland, Minnesota, New York and Arizona) and two have apparently forgotten how to lose, with both Cleveland and Arizona riding extended winning streaks of 13 and 12, respectively...kansas City has 18 games left with clubs from within the A.L. Central including Cleveland (4), Chicago (6), Detroit (4) and Minnesota (4) who collectively possess a combined mark of 266-285 for a.483 winning pct...the remaining non-central squads on KC s schedule are Toronto (3) and the Yankees (1), who have a combined record of 138-139, a.498 pct., while the National League s Arizona Diamondbacks are the last opponent of the regular season and have an 81-58 ledger. HOME-SWEET-HOME TOMORROW--The Royals will return to Kauffman Stadium for their second-to-last stay of the 2017 season, hosting the Twins (4) and White Sox (3)...Minnesota hits town tomorrow for the first of four, then Chicago s visit will commence on Monday...after completion of the upcoming stay, Kansas City will have just six home games remaining with Detroit (3) and Arizona (3) on the final week of the regular season...kc has gone 36-32 at home this season, including a 28-23 mark since mid-may. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a 38-31 during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 are adorned with the ACE 30 patch. HOZ REMAINS AMONG ELITE--Eric Hosmer was hitless last night, but enters tonight s series finale tied for third in the American League in hits (163), while ranking third in both batting average (.317) and on-base percentage (.383) and tied for fourth in multi-hit games with 48, tying his career best from 2012...he had a 21-game on-base streak snapped last week, which was tied for the second-longest of his career, behind a 30-game streak between the end of 2015 and the start of 2016...after a slow start this year, Hoz has hit.336 (143-for-426) since May 1, which is the third-highest average in the Majors during that span...he s also hit.338 on the road, which is second in the American League and at this point would be the fourth-highest batting average by a Royal away from Kauffman Stadium in a season. ESKY THE ENERGIZER BUNNY--Alcides Escobar extended his club record by starting for the 308th consecutive game last night...the indestructible shortstop has started every game since September 26, 2015, which is the longest active streak in the Majors, according to the Elias Sports Bureau...he recently passed Baltimore s Miguel Tejada with 284 consecutive starts from April 4, 2004 through August 20, 2005, giving him the longest streak of consecutive starts at shortstop with the same club since Cal Ripken started 2,216 consecutive games for the Orioles from 1982 to 1996. DUPE RECORDS REPLAY FIRST--Kansas City replay guru Bill Duplissea has not issued a challenge since requesting and winning a record three replay challenges on August 29 vs. Tampa Bay...twice he felt that Lorenzo Cain successfully beat out infield hits at first and each time was proved correct, then his eagle eye saw that Lucas Duda was actually hit by a pitch in the sixth inning while swinging at it and when New York agreed with that assessment, Kevin Kiermaier was sent back to first base since the ball was deemed dead...duper is a Major League best 21-for-28 for a 75% success rate, while based on the last MLB replay report that was released a week ago yesterday, the Yankees are the only other club above 70% by making good on 20-of-28 challenges...bill closed 2016 as the best in baseball at his craft with a 69.2% success rate, converting 27 of 39 challenges, with the Mets next at 67.7% (21-for-31). BACK TO ERRORLESS PLAY--After committing a combined five errors on Sunday and Monday, the Royals got back to their errorless ways last night, holding the season total of miscues at 65, the best mark in the American League, while currently third in the Majors behind only the Marlins (61) and Rockies (64)...KC has been guilty of 22 errors in the last 27 games after committing only 43 errors in the first 110 games of the season...the Royals have gone 44-41 in games without an error...the Royals are still clinging to a pace to break the franchise record for fewest errors in a season, with the 162-game club mark of 85 set in 2013...the 1981 and 1994 squads had lower error totals of 72 and 80, respectively, but each were recorded in strike-shortened seasons...at the current pace, KC would commit just 77 errors this year. AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his seventh full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, 2010...he enters tonight two games below the.500 mark at 617-619 with Kansas City, which is still an impressive total considering he had a 198-253 mark in his first two-plus seasons here...he has gone 419-366 (.534) since the start of 2013...his Kansas City win total has shattered Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins (1975-79)...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is seventh among active managers is games (2,195) and wins (1,074)...his postseason record of 22-9 represents a.710 winning pct., which is tops among all managers who have been at the helm for at least 20 postseason games...he s also 2-0 in managing the American League All-Star team, winning in both Cincinnati ( 15) and San Diego ( 16)...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers (2003-2008)...he compiled a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff (1991-2002). vs. Tigers (2017) vs. Tigers (career) On Road (career) Boyd (career) Gibson (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio.298 57 17 1 3.298 57 17 1 3.260 181 47 9 25.200 5 1 0 0.000 2 0 0 0 Butera.167 12 2 0 4.213 75 16 2 11.207 512 106 13 54.000 2 0 0 0.667 9 6 1 2 Cabrera.315 54 17 3 12.306 392 120 8 58.288 3155 908 71 367.353 17 6 0 0.080 25 2 0 1 Cain.295 61 18 1 1.293 273 80 7 26.281 1400 394 31 152.294 17 5 1 5.172 29 5 0 0 Cuthbert.400 5 2 0 2.286 77 22 2 14.237 312 74 9 21.600 5 3 0 2.125 8 1 0 0 Escobar.327 55 18 1 8.247 454 112 6 43.255 2460 628 17 191.308 13 4 0 2.324 37 12 0 2 Gallagher.000 1 0 0 0.000 1 0 0 0.300 10 3 1 4 - - - - - - - - - - Gordon.200 55 11 0 7.239 557 133 19 70.257 2637 678 79 278.125 8 1 0 0.294 34 10 1 4 Gore - - - - -.000 3 0 0 0.000 0 0 0 0 - - - - - - - - - - Hosmer.361 61 22 5 17.303 459 139 20 72.286 2020 578 67 270.467 15 7 0 1.243 37 9 0 6 Merrifield.344 61 21 3 6.343 99 34 3 12.270 382 103 5 32.429 7 3 0 4.250 12 3 0 2 Mondesi.500 2 1 0 0.241 29 7 2 4.177 96 17 2 10 - - - - -.400 5 2 0 1 Moss.200 40 8 1 7.258 151 39 10 34.240 1589 382 88 247 - - - - -.000 9 0 0 0 Moustakas.352 54 19 2 9.232 345 80 8 28.249 1572 392 67 192.273 11 3 1 1.357 28 10 1 1 Orlando.000 1 0 0 0.313 99 31 2 16.242 364 88 5 32.667 3 2 0 0.615 13 8 0 1 Perez.286 49 14 3 10.297 350 104 15 58.270 1571 424 66 209.267 15 4 1 4.188 32 5 2 6 Soler.182 11 2 0 2.105 19 2 0 3.229 362 83 13 49 - - - - - - - - - - Torres.462 13 6 0 1.462 13 6 0 1.222 36 8 0 1.333 3 1 0 0 - - - - - Disabled List (6) Player D.L.
