The new InfoSoup what you should know as you learn your way through it. When you went to InfoSoup on September 14 you were greeted with something new, something different, something not the same as before. Welcome to the NEW INFOSOUP! This new card catalog is from a company called Encore and runs just a little differently than the old catalog. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you out along the way. Placing a Hold: This works the same way except the button now says request it instead of hold it. Basic Searching: Encore has a very simple/basic search function. They took the idea from Google. When you type something in the results include everything from author to subject if it relates. On the left hand side of your results you will see a list of facets to narrow your search. These include location and type. You can use these to narrow down what you are looking for. Your limiting facets will not be saved for your next search. Advance Searching: You still have the option to do an advance search. This is a small link directly below the basic search box. In this search you can add multiple search terms and use the limiting facets all at once. Advanced searching will save your facets. Saving your Password: We know that there have been issues saving your password. So, here is how to solve that problem. Each browser has its own directions so make sure to follow the correct one. Chrome Go to the Menu Icon (three bars on the top right) Select Settings and then scroll down to "Show advanced settings..." Find Section for "Password and forms" > Select "Manage passwords" You will see a list of sites with "Saved passwords" and "Never saved" If the original InfoSoup login is listed in either section, delete it. Close the Browser and then go back to the InfoSoup login page. After entering a card number and PIN the browser should prompt to ask if you want to remember the login information. Firefox Go to the Menu Icon (three bars on the top right) Select Options Select Security (from left column menu) Under Passwords, there is a button to view "Saved Passwords" and a button to View "Exceptions" (sites that will no longer prompt to remember username and password) Delete any previous InfoSoup entry Close browser Open browser and return to the InfoSoup login page. After entering a card number and PIN the browser should prompt "Would you like to remember the password on infosoup.org?" Internet Explorer This page http://tinyurl.com/3en577v(link is external)from an msdns blog has some information (if you are curious) but no good solutions. On Windows 7 you have to remove all saved passwords. I will continue to look, but for IE users who really want their PIN to be remembered, I would suggest either switching to Firefox (or Opera or Chrome) or getting a third party password manager. For now, the check box should at least remember their library card number. 6

Christmas Lights This year the Friends of the Library are selling Christmas lights in honor and memory of those we love. Each light costs $1.00. Not only will you re money put one pretty light outside the library during the holiday season, but a paper light will hang from the windows in the library for everyone to see. Ask any member of the Friends for more information. Happy Holidays! Pumpkin Glow Festival & Teen Pumpkin Carving Have you ever dreamed of seeing a whole bunch of pumpkins lit up and on display all at once? Then join us for a Pumpkin Glow! All you have to do is bring your carved pumpkins to the library at 7:30pm on Friday, October 23. We will put the pumpkins out all around the front doors to the building, light them up, and have a little party. Music will be played and refreshments will be served. It will be a great time to enjoy each other s company and see lots of pumpkins on display. Anyone ages 13-18 are invited to join us at the library at 6:00pm on Friday, October 23 to carve a pumpkin. We will add these pumpkins to our display. At the end of the evening you will be free to take your pumpkins home with you. REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Register by calling or stopping into the library by 6:00pm on Saturday, October 17.
