4-H Newsletter November/ December 2014 The Clover 4-H CLUB MEETING Sunday, November 2 2:00 pm Ralls Storm Shelter Booster Club Meeting Monday, November 10th 7:00pm County Extension Office What is the Booster Club? A group of parents and other volunteers who raise money to support 4- Hers at contests though the year. All parents are invited to attend all meetings! The booster club has several fundraisers and ALL help is needed and appreciated! Meat Judging Meats judging practices are held each Monday at 2:30pm at Lorenzo ISD and each Tuesday at 4:30pm at the Extension Office. District contest will be November 19 at Texas Tech University. Check in at 12:30. Please let Caitlin know ASAP if you plan to attend. The 4-H Connect deadline is November 14th. 4-H Food Show The Food Show was held Sunday, October 19 at the Ralls Methodist Church. District 2 4-H Food Show The District 2 4-H Food Show will be held Saturday, November 8 at Levelland High School. 4-H Enrollment Congratulations, has 117 prospective members. Several have already paid their enrollment fee but we still have several that needs to get this taken care of. The enrollment fee after November 1 is $25. The Crosby County Extension Office has sent out invoices to those who still need to pay. You will not be eligible to enter 4-H contest if you have not been approved for enrollment. Please contact the office if you have any questions. Lorenzo ISD Archery Program Jennifer Zarate, Lorenzo ISD teacher is heading up an archery program in the school. There are 30 participants with a waiting list! All participants are 4-Hers! A huge thanks to Mrs. Zarate & the other teachers who are involved!! Archery Starting Nov. 17 Monday s @ 6:00pm At the Show barn in Crosbyton All Equipment Provided All ages welcome!! Mini bows are available for smaller 4-Hers. Lorenzo ISD Kids are Welcome to attend! Contests Coming in the Spring 4-Hers 8 and in 3rd grade and up can compete at any of these contests. If you are interested or would like more information about any of the events please call the Extension Office! The Texas 4-H Roundup competition will be in College Station June 8-11th. Senior District Winners advance to the State Competition. Intermediates may compete in a wide variety of invitational events and other contests. ROUNDUP IS FUN!!!!

Livestock Show Concession Stand The Livestock Show will be January 14-17, 2015. The 4-H will be sponsoring the concession stand. Adult volunteers are needed to work during the show, and we will need baked items to sell. A work schedule is available now. Please call the Extension Office if you are interested in helping with the concession stand. This is our major fundraiser to support 4-H activities. BOOSTER CLUB HELP NEEDED Rabbit Project Please contact Angela Arthur (781-6189) if you are interested in entering rabbits at the Stock Show. Nov 9-Club Meeting 3pm Ralls EDGE Dec. 14-County Clinic-Arthur Farm,4pm Rabbits will be tattooed at this time. Breeding rabbits must be owned by Dec 1 and have a tattoo in the left ear. Fryer rabbits must be owned by Dec. 15 and tattooed in left ear. County Entries are due at this time. If you need help to find rabbits please contact Angela. We will not be ordering fryers, you will be responsible for ordering your own!! 2015 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Want FREE Money For COL- LEGE???? Each year many 4-H members receive Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarships. 4-Hers who excel in leadership, community service and academics are eligible to receive scholarship money. The time to start preparing is now! The scholarships range from $1000 to $16,000. The 2015 scholarship application and information are available at http://texas4- h.tamu.edu/scholarships Application deadlines to District is February 6. The deadline to submit applications to the county office is will be late January. Be on the lookout for training information. For additional information, please contact the County Extension Office. Nov 10 @ Ralls Edge 5:30-6:30 Nov 12 @ Ralls Edge 5:30-6:30 Upper Room @ The Edge District Food Challenge The District Food Challenge contest was October 20 in Lubbock. Eleven Crosby Co. 4-Hers competed. Seniors were: Montana Chandler, Georgia Norman & Huntor Watson. They place 1st in Breads & Cereal. Intermediates were: Caleb Cavazos, Katie Dunn, Ceilo Farley & Mikayla Hudnall. They placed 3rd D-2 4-H Gold Star & Distinguished Leader Banquet The District 4-H Gold Star & Distinguished Leader Banquet will be Monday, November 24, 6:30 p.m., at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion at Texas Tech University. This year s Crosby County 4-H Gold Star recipients are Jadeyn Arthur, daughter of Lloyd & Angela and Bailey Smith, daughter of Shannon and Ronda Smith. The 4-H Distinguished Leader is Shannon & Ronda Smith. These award recipients will be honored at the banquet. s Commissioners Court is also invited to participate. Congratulations to Jadeyn, Bailey, Shannon and Ronda!! NO EXCEPTIONS Show Barn Cleanup The Livestock Show Directors will be enforcing their rule of a mandatory participation in one of three workdays. All exhibitors are required to attend one scheduled clean up day in order to be eligible for premium checks from buyers at the Livestock Show. Scheduled workdays are: Saturday, Nov. 15, 10:00 am, Saturday, Dec. 13 10:00 am and Sunday, Jan. 11, 2:00 pm. No exceptions. Swine Validation Swine validation will be during November. Caitlin will be working with Benjamin Stokes and Katy Harkey to conduct the validation. If you are state validating, a parent and the exhibitor will need to be present for signatures. You will also need to be present to tag your county gilts. Be on the look out for more information. Lamb/Goat Validation Lamb/Goat validation was completed October 31.
