4-H Newsletter March/April 2015 The Clover 4-H Fashion Show Do you like to shop? If so, the Fashion Show buying category is right up your alley. 4-H members purchase an outfit and go through an interview process with judges. Who can participate: 3 rd - 12 th graders When: Tuesday, April 14 Where: Christ the King School in Lubbock If you are interested please RSVP to Sue by Tuesday, March 13 th. We will have one Fashion Show Prep Session on Tuesday, March 31st from 4-5pm at the Extension Office. Livestock Show Congratulations to all 4-Hers who participated in the 2015 Crosby County Livestock Show. Crosby County 4-Hers exhibited 5 steers, 14 swine, 31 lambs, 8 goats and 63 rabbits. 3 Grand Champions and 3 Reserve Champions were exhibited through 4-H! THANK YOU 4-Hers and parents who worked and baked items for the concession stand!! A special thanks to Macy Cavazos for making chili, Ronda Smith for making beans, and the many families who brought cornbread and baked goods. PROFIT = $2108!!!! Whether you are on old pro at putting them together or a new 4-H who needs to know where to start, we are here to help you. We will hold a Recordbook Workshop to help you start with the process. We will help you through each step. It is even possible for 4-Hers themselves (who can operate Word) to do their entire recordbook themselves.

Please let Caitlin know ASAP if you are interested in Judging 4-H Fashion Storyboard Contest Fashion Storyboard is a way for you to show your creativity when it comes to designing clothes, accessories, jewelry, non-wearables, or even pet clothing! You use a 20x30 foam board and your design skills to create an item that someone would want to buy. Who can participate: 3 rd - 12 th graders Theme: Inspired by Art When: Fashion Storyboard are due Thursday, March 26 th by 5:00 **only one entry per person per category.** State Steer Validation Tags It is time to order 2016 State Steer Validation Tags. Place your order by April 16 to the county Extension office. More information on validating steers will come later. State Fair Lamb/Goat Validation Tags If you plan to exhibit lambs or goats at the Texas State Fair you need to order tags by April 8. Tags will cost $10 per animal. Horse Validation Horse Valida on is due by May 1. You must submit the valida on form in order to enter your horse(s) in the district horse show. Early valida on is March 1 April 15 $10 per horse and April 16 May 1 $20 per horse. Please call us with any ques ons!
Horse Judging If you are interested in par cipa ng in Horse Judging please contact Angela Arthur (781 6189) or email arthurxsix@aol.com. Prac ces will be held at the Ralls EDGE and begin at 5:30pm for Juniors and Intermediates and last about 1 hour. Seniors a end a er athle c prac ce release. You will learn basic concepts to use when evalua ng different horses. Seniors are required to state a set of reasons. Those will be coached at separate prac ces. All intermediate and senior aged 4-Hers can participate. Compete at District Roundup to qualify! Participants and volunteers will be responsible for the cost of lodging. If you have plans to attend 4-H Roundup, let Caitlin know asap! There are a few ways left to qualify: Horse Judging, Wool Judging, Fashion Show, Fashion Storyboard, Public Speaking, Educational Presentations, Share the Fun Invitational Contests Any Sr or Intermediate can participate: Swine Quiz Bowl, Meat Judging, Livestock Judging, Healthy Lifestyles, Entomology Collection, Poultry Judging, Wildlife Challenge, Ag product identification, Swine Skill-a-Thon, 4K Walk/Run, Discover Science Poster Contest, Hippology (horses) All Intermediate & Senior aged 4Hers are encouraged to come! Share the Fun District Contest: 5/2/15 Categories: Choreographed Routine, Dramedy, Poetry/Prose, Vocal, Celebrate 4-H, Musical Instrument, Solo/Band Performance All Ages 3rd-12th Grade Can Compete!! Seniors Qualify for Roundup Educational Presentations District Contest: 5/2/15 Categories: Companion Animals, Health, Horse, Open Ag/NR, Open FCS, Sheep & Goat, Safety & Injury Prevention, Open, Clothing & Textiles. All Ages 3rd-12th Grade Can Compete!! Seniors Qualify for Roundup What will you do? Teach the audience how to do something! You can use visual aids, a slide show, ANYTHING you want! There is no minimum time limit, younger 4-Hers can do something simple that may only last 2 minutes. Why do this? This contest is the best and easiest way to come out of your shell and gain some confidence to speak in front of a small group. Parents, this is where your 4- Her needs to be encouraged (and pushed). We promise, this will be the BEST 4-H experience of your life! Public Speaking District Contest: 5/2/15 Prepare a speech about ANYTHING and speak for 2-7 minutes about anything YOU WANT. Did you do a speech for school or UIL? Use the same speech for 4-H! You can even give a speech about Purple People Eaters, there is no limit to your topic! All Ages 3rd-12th Grade Can Compete!!
