Current Standings Team Kovaks - 4 points Team Benner - 2 points Team Jeter - 2 points Team Brown - 2 points Our Second annual little links season is under way and off to a good start. We have four teams competing on a weekly basis with kids ages 6 13 participating. This year we have 28 kids participating. Teams play a weekly 3-hole match in a step aside scramble format. Teams earn points based on their weekly scores. MADISON S INSTRUCTIONAL CORNER Most amateur golfers tend to fear bunkers and attempt to stay clear of them while playing a round of golf. But what happens if your ball ends up in one? The average golfer does not spend enough time practicing out of the sand, so they become nervous and anxious when they find themselves in a bunker on the course. So here are a few tips to help you the next time you find yourself in a green side bunker. Do not lean your hands too far in front of the club head. This position takes bounce off the club, exposing the leading edge of the club and causing the club to dig deep into the bunker. Lighten your grip pressure. You need to swing the club with little tension and with speed so that the club thumps through the sand. The ball position should be slightly forward of center and your feet should be shoulder width apart. Once you are ready to swing, remember these three keys: Make a full backswing; not a short, low backswing. Hit the sand about 1-2 inches behind the ball. Swing to a full finish; mimic your full swing motion. Recognize that the sand wedge is designed for bunker play, create a proper setup and swing normally and the ball will come out successfully. And, set aside some time to practice your sand shots every time you go to the range. This will help you feel more confident and comfortable next time you find yourself in a bunker.

Course News Personal Golf Cart Parking we have implemented a new golf cart parking area for personal carts, in between the Clubhouse and the Pool. For our members who drive personal golf carts to the Club, please utilize this new area for parking or the parking lot so that we can maintain an open area for Club events and golf car staging. We will also be resodding the grass area adjacent to bag drop, so please help us by avoiding the grass when operating golf carts. Family Tees (Tee it Forward Initiative) The PGA has implemented the Tee it Forward initiative to help golfers enjoy the game as well as to grow the game by in an attempt attract new junior golfers, families and beginning golfers to the game of golf. There is a flyer located at the handicap computer to help golfers identify which tees they should play. Most people already know that we have 3 sets of tees (blue, white and green), but many are unaware that we also offer 3 blended tee options (blue/white, green/white and green/gold) for golfers to play, as well. Scorecards are available in the proshop to provide tee and handicap information. We have also reimplemented family tees throughout the course. You will see these markers (Gold and Red) located in the fairway to provide adequate starting points for juniors and beginners, as well as for families to come out and play together. During Twilight Play (after 3pm), we will also allow juniors under the age of 16 to play for FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. Family tee scorecards are also available in the proshop. Course Closed - Greens Aerification. Aug 5, 2011. We will be aerifying greens using a quadratine method that pulls a small (pencil sized) core from the soil to penetrate the thatch layer of the green and allow oxygen to flow to the roots of the Bermuda grass plant. The greens will then be top 11 dressed with a layer of sand. Periodic aerification is necessary to maintain healthy turf grass and ensure the longevity of the greens. We expect the greens to heal back to their normal playability within 1 week. We plan to re-open the course by 1pm if maintenance goes as planned, but please call the golf shop to confirm. Wednesday Night Madness - The format will be a 9-hole modified stableford. The cost is $5 which will be divided by the players who pull their points for the night. An optional skins game is also available for $5. We have implemented a new points system using the average point total of your last 5 scores. Since we are playing on Wednesdays, the bar will remain open for beverages after play. So plan now, get your $5 ready and come out to enjoy the beautiful Charleston evenings.

NEW TENNIS INSTRUCTOR OFFERS SUMMER TENNIS LESSONS Hello, my name is William Wert and I will be available for junior and adult tennis instruction at Coosaw Creek Country Club during the summer. I am a junior in college attending the University of Mississippi and pursuing a degree in biology and classical studies. I have been playing tennis for almost eight years now and I love the sport. I have had the pleasure of playing under coach Heinz Maurer (former Coosaw Creek Tennis Instructor) at Pinewood Prep for 4 years, winning one state championship and making it to playoffs yearly. I also took 3 years of private lessons with coach Heinz, developing my game to the point it is at now. While in high school I played both varsity tennis as well as USTA tournaments, securing a state ranking. I now teach clinics and private lessons during the school year at the University of Mississippi, as well as playing for the Ole Miss club tennis team. I also recently attended a USPTA convention in Mt. Pleasant, learning new teaching skills and techniques. Feel free to contact me via email at wrwert@live.com to set up a lesson, or call (843) 834-5915. SWIMMING POOLS Open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend, the Swimming Pool is staffed with lifeguards during published hours and is available for open swim (at your own risk) when lifeguards are not present. These areas have been selected to ensure that people fishing are not in the normal flight of golf balls and that ponds can be approached without crossing the course or using the cart paths. They are located: BEHIND THE PLAYGROUND Approach from McChune Court HOLE 15 Approach from Arthur Hills Circle HOLE 16 Approach from Club Course Drive HOLE 17 Approach from Power Line Break These guidelines are established to ensure a positive experience for all Members and guests who use the facilities.
