POOL NEWS It is getting closer to swim season, and we are excited for the summer! The pool committee has ordered new pool furniture and we are anxiously awaiting its arrival. Most of the concession stand and life guard positions have been filled, but we do still have a few spots left for each. If you, or someone you know is interested in working at the pool this summer please stop in and get an application from Christine or Barb. You can also contact Alicia George at 304-672- 1034. As many of you know from years past, there is difficulty opening the pool at the end of the season with guards having to go to school. If you know of an adult who is willing to get certified to lifeguard, please contact Alicia George! At this time, we do not have the pool schedule set in stone (due to the school year being extended). We hope to open Memorial Day weekend, as usual, and will plan on opening each day after school until school is out. As long as we have enough guards who are in from college, we will open full days before the school year ends. As soon as we know, we will pass along the hours to you! WELCOME NEW MEMBERS! If you see any of the following new or returning members, make sure to give them a BIG welcome! Michael and Shaelynn Holepit Jonathan and Laiken Beckley David Hutson and Trisha Johnson Douglas and Kemberly Sprouse Kent and Lauren Moore Vince and Julie Cava Matthew Lowther Douglas and Jeovanna Comer Brian Delloma Mark Owens Del Parris Pat and Sandra Hawkins 7
WOMEN S GOLF ASSOCIATION OF BCC 2017 Member Guest The Women s Golf Association is looking forward to our opening day of golf on Tuesday, April 24th. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast and then enjoy a 9- hole scramble at 10:00 a.m. to get the season started. There is a sign-up sheet in the locker room. Please sign up by April 17th so we can let the kitchen staff know the number and so that teams can be set up. Hopefully the weather will cooperate! On opening day, you will have an opportunity to join the Women s Golf Association. Dues are $35.00. Also, for those of you interested in the Women s Mountaineer League, we will have the 2018 schedule. Dues for that organization are $10.00. There will also be a signup sheet for the annual handicap tournament. It is a match play tournament and a little different from our usual Tuesday golf. Beginning in May, we will tee off at 9:00 a.m. and continue with that starting time through September. We will again have the Ringer Board and the Par/Birdie tree to compile your improvement in the game throughout the season. We are also anticipating the Women s Golf Clinics with Michael on Thursdays during the month of May. Our next important date is the Member/Guest on Tuesday, June 26th. We will meet sometime in April to begin planning for it, but it s never too early to begin to get your foursome together! Hope to see everyone on April 24th! 8
Board Report Members: Now we can feel Springs arrival and know good golf, tennis, (Pickle Ball?) and eventually swim weather will be here soon. I am so ready. The Board's Pool Committee chairman Chris Grenier and I met with the Pool Committee headed by Marcy Blount with the help of Tara Holler, Nicole Trickett and Alicia George. We have chosen the new outdoor furniture for the pool and seating under the porches for dining out. We are very excited about this and feel you will be when it arrives about Mid April. A big thank you to our Pool Committee especially Tera Holler and Alicia George. We are planning for the opening of the Pool. A new Control System will be in place for balancing the PH this year. This will be more consistent and accurate thus saving us chemicals, money and making swimming safer for all. We welcome our new Pool Consultant, John Cooper to assist Golf Course Superintendent, Shawn Jeffries with the pool maintenance this year. John has referred us to his contacts in the Pool Industry and we feel great about our decisions for the pool. We are purchasing our chemicals now in a Coop that allows better pricing. The new Chaise Lounges, tables, chairs and umbrellas will look great this year! Only two months to get in Pool Shape, so don t miss our new look at the BCC Pool! We are receiving new bids for our Parking Lot paving and will award that contract in April and target a June completion. Many Members play Pickle Ball outside our Club and we have an underutilized Tennis Facility that could benefit from an easy transition to allow Pickle Ball play on a court. We can fit two Courts inside one Tennis Court. The East Tennis Court could double as a Pickle Ball Court for us and we are moving toward this happening soon. Check out Pickle Ball and you may be interested to try it. Our PGA Golf Professional, V.J. Baldini, has been stocking the Shop with new products and with PGA Assistant Golf Pro Michael Gervais, is ready to serve our needs! During our Golf Committee Meeting last Tuesday, he informs us of a local Drive, Chip and Putt contest that could happen on our Club soon for our Junior Golfers! We have a Taylor Made and Cobra Golf Demo Day this Saturday March 31st! Don t let this opportunity pass to see your ball flight characteristics with the Track Man and try the new products out. See you there! Shawn Jeffries has aerified our Greens and top dressed them well to prepare for our Opening Day Tournament on April 14th. We have many improvements to accomplish on the course this year. V.J. Baldini is introducing Shawn to our Members during the Friday night pairings selection event, so please show up to welcome our new Superintendent, enjoy each other and see who you are paired with! Please utilize our great Food and Beverages in our Grill and Dining Rooms and consider our facility for your next meeting! Bring us a new Member to join the fun. We are serving this Easter Sunday! Happy Easter! Mark Cantrell 9
