These will be races up to 4km and will be open to anyone. The race will start with the novice and Junior crews to make it a more exciyng race experience for paddlers and spectators alike. It will give more of a real race feel to the novice paddler and offer encouragement for them to ulymately move on to short course racing as they gain confidence in a race environment. A novice paddler can progress on to short course and come back to Ultra Short course but once they race in a long course, they then immediately lose their classificayon as novice, and as such will not be able to compete in Ultra Short courses again. For Novice crews, there must be 4 novice paddlers (i.e. paddlers who are in their first or 2nd year of registrayon, with 2 years being the maximum), and 2 experienced paddlers. Ultra Short has been introduced to cater more for the less confident paddler who isn t a novice and would prefer to race the shorter distance or, doesn t want to race in a longer open water event and may want to gain confidence in a race situayon. Any paddler who enters an Ultra Short course race can progress up to a short course and long course and is able to come back to the Ultra Short.
