NORDEA PRIVATE BANKING 8 METRE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 HELSINKI 27 th July to 3 nd August 2013 Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS) in co-operation with the Finnish 8mR Association ( FEMA ) and the International Eight Metre Association ( IEMA ) NOTICE OF RACE 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). No national prescriptions will apply. 1.2 RRS 44.1 and 44.2 will be changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe is required. 1.3 RRS 55 will be changed in that the penalty for a breach of this rule will be decided by the International Jury. 1.4 Under RRS 87 the Rules of the International 8 Metre Class will be changed as follows: 1.5 Yachts designed prior to January 1st 1960 with no hull modifications as defined by IEMA are permitted a maximum measurement of 8.07 metres, using the rating formula of the Class Rule. Such yachts shall otherwise have valid rating certificates. The owners shall submit a signed statement at registration that no hull modifications or ballast changes which would affect rating have been made since the last measurement. 1.6 The maximum number of crew is increased to seven for all yachts designed prior to 1960. All yachts are required to declare their 1

number of crew and the names at registration and shall sail with that number of crew throughout the regatta. 1.7 All yachts may register one alternative crew on their crew list and may use this crew by registering the change by 19.00 at the Regatta Office on the day before the crew change is to take place. Any additional changes shall be subject to approval by the International Jury. 1.8 All yachts must carry a towline of minimum 15 metres length and personal flotation devices for every crew member on board. 1.9 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 2 ADVERTISING 2.1 ISAF Regulation 20 will apply to all advertising, with the following amendments. 2.2 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority. 2.3 In accordance with Class Rule 36, no advertising is allowed on the mainsail or genoa. 2.4 In participating in the regatta a competitor expressly and automatically grants, without any demand for compensation, the Organizing Authority and sponsors of the regatta the right, in perpetuity, to make, use and show at any time, and at their sole discretion, any still or motion pictures and live, filmed or taped television and other reproductions taken during the regatta. 3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the International 8 Metre Class that have: a valid rating certificate, completed registration and paid the entry fee. 3.2 The owners of participating yachts shall be paid up members of IEMA. 3.3 Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached entry form and sending it to the Organizing Authority or by completing the entry form available online at www.8mrworlds.fi. 2

3.4 The closing date for entries is 31st May 2013. 4 ENTRY FEE 4.1 Entry fee: The required entry fee is 1500 EUR. The entry fee includes berthing at HSS Marina at Liuskasaari from 25th July until Sunday 4th August 2013 and seven (7) ferry tickets to Liuskasaari per crew. 5.5 Number of races: A maximum of nine races will be sailed, with no more than two races scheduled for any day. 6 MEASUREMENTS 6.1 Each boat shall produce a valid rating certificate at registration. 6.2 Spot measurement checks may be made at any time during the regatta. 7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 7.1 The sailing instructions will be available at the HSS Regatta Office at registration as well as on the regatta website www.8mrworlds.fi 8 VENUE 8.1 Attachment A shows the location of the HSS harbour at Liuskasaari. 8.2 Attachment B shows the location of the racing areas. See Other Information. 9 THE COURSES 9.1 Courses will be Windward/Leeward configuration with a spreader mark offset from the Windward Mark. A gate may be laid as the Leeward Mark. A diagram will be included in the Sailing Instructions. 10 PENALTY SYSTEM 10.1 Decisions of the International Jury will be final as provided in RRS 70.5. 11 SCORING 11.1 Five completed races are required to constitute a valid Championship. 11.2 When six or more races have been completed a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 12 SUPPORT BOATS 4

12.1 Support boats shall be registered at the Regatta Office where they will be given a numbered pennant which shall be displayed throughout the regatta. A breach of this instruction shall not be grounds for protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a) 13 BERTHING 13.1 Boats shall be kept in their assigned places while they are in the harbour. A breach of this instruction shall not be grounds for protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a). See Other Information. 14 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS 14.1 No boat may be hauled out after 1600 on Sunday 28th July until the end of the regatta, except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the International Jury. 15 DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS 15.1 Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta. 16 RADIO COMMUNICATION 16.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 16.2 The RC will inform boats on channel 77 observed OCS. The RC broadcast is just advisory and no grounds for redress. 17 PRIZES 17.1 The International Eight Metre World Cup will be awarded to the boat with the best overall score in the regatta. 17.2 The Coppa d Italia will be awarded to the European boat with the best overall score in the regatta conforming to the Deed of Gift for this trophy. 5

17.3 The Sira Cup will be awarded to the boat, designed prior to 1960 conforming to the Sira Cup Deed of Gift and Rules, with the best overall score in the regatta. 17.4 The Neptune Trophy will be awarded to the boat with the best score in a separate scoring table for this category. Boats competing for this trophy must adhere to the Rules and Deed of Gift. Eligible boats will be scored in the overall scoring. Should a discard apply in the overall scoring, a discard will also apply in this separate table. 17.5 The First Rule Cup will be awarded to the boat built between 1908 and 1919 to the first International Rating Rule. Eligible boats will be scored in the overall scoring and the trophy will be awarded to the boat with the best score in a separate scoring table for this category. Should a discard apply in the overall scoring, a discard will also apply in this separate table. 18 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 18.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 19 INSURANCE 19.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 2 000 000 EUR per incident or the equivalent. 20 REGATTA WEBSITE: CONTACT DETAILS 20.1 Separate details will be posted on the regatta website www.8mrworlds.fi covering general information, weather, accommodation, travel. 20.2 The contact details of the Organizing Authority can be found also at the regatta website www.8mrworlds.fi.
