Handicapped parking is in the north high school lot as well. All buses and support vehicles will park behind the high school. Marching member entry to the stadium will be on the south end. Pit equipment and vehicles/carts with wheels will enter from the north end. At the stadium, please instruct your students to stand next to the main grandstand or sit in the bleachers on the back sideline. The main grandstand is for our paying customers. Spectators are not allowed on the stadium field or track. Applications were due on August 31. This event is NOT a prelims/finals format. Competitive divisions are not announced until awards. The schedule is scrambled and order of performance is by postmark date, with last year s winners at the end of competition. Awards will be announced by MSHSAA football classification. Judges are. FARMINGTON MARCHING INVITATIONAL September 18, 2010 COMPETITION INFORMATION 1. Refer to the times on the schedule for warm-up, staging, performance, and awards. 2. Note the entry route for buses and support vehicles is on Hwy. 67 to Missouri Route W/Hwy. 221, then left on Black Knight Drive. Park as directed in parking lots and/or the street. Support vehicles are limited to buses, equipment trucks, and trailers. CARPOOLING PARENTS ASSISTING WITH EQUIPMENT SHOULD PARK IN THE PUBLIC LOTS AND ENTER AS PER #3 BELOW. You will not be allowed to take up parking spaces with canopies. Those may be assembled on the practice field. 3. Entry for private vehicles is Hwy. 67 to Maple Street, right on Maple Street, right on Maple Valley Drive, then left on Liberty Street. Public parking will be on the north high school lots. Please inform your parents and provide them with copies of the map. Handicapped parking is also on this side of campus. Overflow parking will be at Parkland Hospital. DO NOT PARK IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM PARKING AREA. Park as directed by the attendants, near the large Parkland Hospital Sign. 4. Upon arrival at the high school, a guide will board your bus to stamp hands of your band students, bus drivers, chaperones, and equipment truck drivers. This will be done so that your group can be admitted free for the field competition. Four porta-potties will be located on the high school parking lot. THERE WILL NOT BE RESTROOMS AVAILABLE FOR CHANGING CLOTHES. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. 5. Please inform your drivers and staff that we have a hospitality room for them in the cafeteria. The location is indicated on the map. This room is for band directors and instructional staff as well. DO NOT INVITE PARENTS OR STUDENTS INTO THIS AREA. The hospitality room closes at 4:00 pm. 6. The first aid station will be located near the practice field. (It looks like a carport garage cover.) Bulk pizza orders may be picked up here as well. 7. THERE WILL BE NO PLAYING OF INSTRUMENTS WHERE SOUND CAN BE HEARD AT THE STADIUM OR INTERFERE WITH WARM-UP AREAS A & B.

8. You may use the practice field for stretching and/or marching ONLY. NO PLAYING, INCLUDING USE OF GAWK BLOCK, WILL BE ALLOWED. It is your responsibility to report the warm-up and/or staging areas at your assigned time. There is NO schedule for use of the practice field. YOU MAY NOT USE ATV/TRACTOR TYPE VEHICLES ON THE PRACTICE FIELD. 9. Please look at the enclosed map for the flow for your group. Your equipment cart(s) may follow your group through warm-up if you choose. After leaving the bus parking lot, you move to the east side of the high school for the warmup areas. You may march and/or play facing away from the high school in the warm-up areas. Hornline and Percussion Warm-Up A is narrow, but wide and in the street. Please face away from the high school (and toward the Civic Center) when playing and/or using PA equipment. Hornline and Percussion Warm-Up B is a wide, but sloping parking lot. Please face away from the high school (and toward the Civic Center) when playing and/or using PA equipment. You get 30 minutes in your assigned warm-up area to enter, warm-up, and exit. FESTIVAL PERSONNEL WILL MONITOR YOUR TIME. You will be asked to wrap-up your session with 5 minutes remaining. Then you will move to the staging area at the south end of the stadium, by the wrestling building. There will be no playing here. Water will be available. The first aid station is nearby. A cooling building is near the entry/exit gate for heat related problems. When the preceding band is playing their second to the last musical selection, you will enter the stadium from the south and move near the side #1 end zone. THE GATE HERE IS 64 WIDE. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. ITEMS LARGER THAN 64 MUST GO TO THE NORTH END WITH PIT EQUIPMENT. Equipment trailers/atv will enter the stadium from the north end and be directed to drive down the track. Drum taps (single taps on the drum head, rim, shell, or stick clicks) may be played by one player to enter the field. 10. You may video tape your show. Please have your photographer at the south end of the press box at the end of the preceding band s performance. There is only enough room for one photographer per school. You may only video tape your band s performance from the press box. You should stand on the sill of the south doorway. 11. There will be electric available at the 50 yard line, front side-line only; a single extension cord with one plug. 12. You will have fifteen minutes to enter, warm-up, perform your show, and exit the field. No penalty will be assessed for running over. Please be considerate of everyone else! We will not run ahead of schedule, and do not want to run behind! THERE WILL BE NO EASY ACCESS FOR DIRECTORS OR INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF TO VIEW THEIR BAND S PERFORMANCE

FROM THE PRESS BOX, NOR CAN YOU GAIN ACCESS TO THE MAIN GRANDSTAND FROM THE FIELD. 13. You will exit the field to the same end as you entered; to the left of the audience s view point (south, side #1). Drum cadence may be used to exit the field but should end at the gate. Again, equipment trailers will be directed to drive down the track and exit to the north. The first aid station and cooling shelter is close to the entry/exit gate for heat or injury related problems. Free water will be available here. 14. Admission to the field competition is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Children ages five and under will be admitted free. 15. We encourage you to bring your group to the high school for meals and snacks as we will have a wealth of food and drinks. This is operated by the Farmington Band Boosters Club and is the means of fund raising. At the stadium, please instruct your students to sit in the visitor bleachers on the back sideline or stand next to the main grandstand. There is expanded seating on the visitor s side, and, a new concession stand with restrooms. Seating in the main grandstand is for our paying customers. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE STADIUM FIELD OR TRACK DURING OTHER BANDS PERFORMANCES OR FOR THE AWARDS CEREMONY. (Exception: drum majors and directors.) We will also enforce a quiet zone near the main concession stand during bands performances. 16. The field awards presentation will be in the high school stadium. Drum majors should report to the band entry/exit gate; left of the audience s viewpoint (south, side #1) fifteen minutes before the field awards ceremony. The awards presentation will take place on the track at the fifty-yard line. Caption awards will be presented for outstanding performance in Color Guard, Drum Major, Percussion, Music Performance, and Visual Performance in all classes. Place awards will be presented in all MSHSAA classes. Directors should pick up their adjudication packets near the trophy table at the 50-yard line immediately following the awards ceremony. The contents should include judge s comments (hopefully on CD!), critique sheets, and a recap sheet. 17. The Farmington Color Guard will be selling music-related sports apparel and other souvenirs. 18. There will be no access to the press box for video taping the awards ceremony. 19. RAIN PLAN. Should there be a problem with the weather, the event will be delayed as the stadium has field turf. If rain has set in for the day, the event will be held in the high school gym. Bus and equipment vehicle parking will be

on the high school parking lots. Parking for the general public will be in the north high school lots and Parkland Hospital. The warm-up schedule will be the same as the field competition schedule. Warm-up will be in the high school gym. Groups would then proceed to the gym. NO PIT PERCUSSION WILL BE ALLOWED FOR THE RAIN PERFORMANCE. Admission will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Children age five and under will be admitted free. Judges will evaluate music and auxiliary routines. The time for the awards ceremony will be announced. Trophies will be awarded as listed in the field competition information.
