BEST / FEST Meeting September 25, 2014 at the Multi-Purpose Complex The third meeting for 2014 had a solid attendance and some excellent speakers. This Fannin County Citizens Group was formed in 2013 to allow citizens of Fannin County to voice and hear opinions and ideas from other concerned individual s within the county. Originally sponsored by the Bonham Chamber of Commerce, this citizen s council has grown to include all of Fannin County. John Farris gave the opening and closing remarks. Each subcommittee of this group gave an update on their activities: 1) Small Business Led by Bill Wilson, serves to attract small business to our area as well as offer services to the small business community already in place. Mr. Wilson told the audience about Bonham s under-utilized attractions for new businesses and a survey they are conducting to better support current businesses. This committee is providing a Business Tax Seminar at Bonham City Hall, Oct 31, 2014. 2) Ec0-Tourism David Keene spoke in place of Laurie Blake for this meeting and described the group s goals for non-motorized entry points on the red river to increase recreational traffic such as kayakers. 3) Retirement Committee The group is led by Lisa Avila. This committee plans to take full advantage of the upcoming Bonham High All School Reunion to promote Bonham to retirees. 4) Lakes Committee This committee, led by Bill Purcell, made attendees aware of some changes in the legal proceedings for bringing in the lake. Also they were encouraged to keep aware of policies that will affect individuals access to ground water such as personal wells. John Ed Shinpaugh represented the Fannin County Electric Company as the key note speaker for this event. After warning attendees about his love of talking, he covered many interesting topics like data and logistics on how electricity is accessible in Texas. Lastly he explained some of the plans and timelines for new pump stations and relocation of lines around the new lake. The Chamber thanks Mr. Shinpaugh for his informative presentation. The next BEST/FEST will have some special additions and will be held in December. The Bonham Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone interested in Fannin County to attend.
