This is Chicago s first visit to PNC Park since the teams played to a 1-1 tie, September 29 of last season the game was suspended due to rain in the sixth inning with no make-up date scheduled it was Chicago s first tie game since May 28, 1993 vs. the Expos. Rizzo enters this Pirates series with 19 home runs against Pittsburgh, the second-most he s hit against any team his three homers this past weekend gives him 20 against the Reds. This 12-game hitting streak ties his career best, done May 25-June 7, 2015 overall, he has six career hitting streaks of 10 or more games. AS OF LATE : In the team s last five games, the Cubs bullpen has recorded a 1.83 ERA (4 ER/19.2 IP) while going 3-0 with two saves the pen has walked nine, struck out 26 (good for an average of 11.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings) and held the opponent to a.162 average (11-for-68). Twice in this stretch, April 18 vs. Milwaukee and Friday in Cincinnati, the bullpen tossed 5.1 innings and held the opponent to one or no runs. A GRAND OL TIME: Willson Contreras on Saturday connected for his first career grand slam, also the first by a Cubs player this season it was the first regular season grand slam by a Cubs catcher since Miguel Montero on September 6, 2015 vs. Arizona, though Montero did smash a pertinent grand slam in Game One of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers last October at Wrigley Field. TRIPLE THREAT: Jake Arrieta on Saturday recorded an RBI triple and now has a triple in each of his last four seasons he is the first pitcher to triple in four-consecutive seasons since St. Louis Ray Sadecki from 1963-66 thanks to Elias for its research assistance. WALKS APLENTY: Prior to yesterday, in which Chicago did not walk, the team had gone 16-straight games with at least three free passes in each contest that was the club s longest stretch since 17-consecutive games of at least three walks, August 10-29, 1975. The Cubs have drawn 69 walks this season, fourth-most in the N.L. behind the Dodgers (78), Mets (72) and Nationals (70) Kyle Schwarber s 13 walks are fifth-most in the Senior Circuit. LEADING THINGS OFF: Kyle Schwarber has reached base to lead off a game nine times in 17 plate appearances his.529 on-base percentage leading off the game ranks second in the majors among players with at least 10 such plate appearances, trailing only San Diego s Manuel Margot (.588).
