The Panthers posted a 1-0 overtime win against the Wildcats in their only other trip to Lexington (2007). UNC Asheville and IUPUI round out the four-team field. UNC Asheville is EIU s only first-time opponent on the schedule this year. Eastern has regularly participated in a tournament in the first weekend of the regular season. During the program s MVC era (1996-present), the Panthers also played in a tournament their first weekend of the regular season in 1997, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Eastern is 26-11 in season openers since 1973 and 8-6 in season openers during the MVC era. FOUR SCORE PRESEASON GOALS The Panthers had a busy exhibition schedule, playing four games since preseason training camp opened Aug. 16. In the annual EIU Intrasquad game, Brandon Loncar scored the game-winner in overtime. Alex Harrison scored the Panthers first goal in the draws with both Butler and Green Bay. Shawn Singh accounted for a go-ahead goal at Butler and Kyle Bullock scored an equalizer versus Green Bay. Central Arkansas 14 (First place Votes) HARRISON PRESEASON ALL-MVC Senior Alex Harrison represented EIU on the Preseason All- MVC Team. In 2009, he led the MVC in assists per game, helping setup nine goals. After also scoring twice himself, he played a role in 11 of the Panthers 19 goals as a junior. Harrison was a Second Team All-MVC and Third Team NSCAA All-Region honoree last year. He has gone from an MVC All-Freshman Team pick in 2007, to Honorable Mention All-MVC as a sophomore, to an all-conference and all-region performer a year ago. Eastern was picked seventh of eight teams in the MVC preseason poll. However, EIU has the advantage of playing four of its seven conference games at home. The Panthers host the three teams picked directly ahead of them in the poll Drake, Bradley and SIU Edwardsville. EASTERN BATTLES HORIZON LEAGUE FAVORITES TO DRAWS Eastern s two exhibition games against Division I competition were both against Horizon League opponents. The Panthers battled both Butler and Green Bay to 2-2 draws in 105-minute games. Butler and Green Bay were picked one-two in the Horizon League preseason poll after winning that conference s regular-season and tournament titles, respectively, in 2009. Both teams also participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. PANTHERS RETURNING TO THE SUMMIT LEAGUE IN 2011 Eastern will rejoin The Summit League (formerly the Mid-Continent Conference) in time for the beginning of the 2011 season. The Panthers have been an affiliate member of the Missouri Valley Conference since 1996 and will close out their tenure in the MVC this fall. Previously, EIU competed in the Mid-Continent Conference from 1983-95, winning at least a share of the league championship five times (1983, 1985, 1987-89). Eastern also won the West Division title in 1994. The Panthers have regularly played a number of The Summit League teams during the nonconference portion of the schedule. The Summit League schools that sponsor men s soccer programs includes: IPFW, IUPUI, Oakland, Oral Roberts, UMKC and Western Illinois. Eastern is scheduled to play IPFW, IUPUI, UMKC and WIU this fall. With Central Arkansas and SIU Edwardsville set to begin competing in the MVC as men s soccer affiliates this fall, there were eight other affiliates during EIU s Valley years. Eastern s 15 seasons in the MVC were the most of any of those affiliates. EASTERN-EVANSVILLE GAME LIVE ON FOX SOCCER CHANNEL TV The EIU-Evansville game on Friday, Oct. 29 at UE s McCutchan Stadium has been selected to be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel as part of the NSCAA College Game of the Week package. It is slated for a 7 p.m. (CDT) kickoff. Fox Soccer Channel is available on many sports packages offered by cable companies. It is channel 149 on DISH Network and channel 619 on DirecTV. In the Coles County area, Consolidated Communications offers FSC on channel 37 (of its expanded sports package) while Mediacom offers it on channel 261 (of the digital plus package). THREE PANTHERS NAMED TO 2009 MVC ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM Eastern led the way with three MVC All-Freshman Team selections in 2009. Kyle Bullock, Jerry Maddi and Ryan Warren were all honored for play during their inaugural collegiate seasons. The Panthers also had three All-Freshman Team picks in 2005 and that academic class grew into one of the driving forces behind EIU s consecutive double-figure win seasons in 2006 and 2007. Bullock and Maddi started every game but the Asbury contest. Warren saw action as both a midfielder and defender, making nine starts. Maddi assisted on all three of Bullock s goals and scored twice himself, both goals coming in Valley play. KEHOE S CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED STREAK Darby Kehoe enters his senior season set to close out his career as a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter. Kehoe has played in every regular-season game during his EIU career, a streak of 57 and counting. He has also started 14 consecutive MVC games dating back to the start of conference play in 2008. Since joining the starting lineup full time early in 2008, he has started 32 of EIU s last 33 games all but the Asbury home game in 2009. Eastern Illinois Men s Soccer: Panther Pride on the Pitch

UNIQUE GAME-WINNING GOAL STREAK In 2009, a different player scored the gamewinning goal in each of EIU s six victories. Entering this season, a different player has accounted for the game-winner in the Panthers last eight victories dating back to Sept. 2008. Previously, EIU also had a different player score a game-winner in a stretch of eight victories from 1999-2000. The Panthers involved in the current streak of game-winning goals from eight different players includes: Jeff Kupiec (10/26/09 vs Asbury), Evan Philpott (10/18/09 vs Bradley), Jerry Maddi (10/4/09 at Missouri State), Kyle Bullock (9/27/09 vs IPFW), Jonathan Hinds (9/18/09 vs Stony Brook), Mike Picinich MISSOURI VALLEY Conference Standings MISSOURI VALLEY OVERALL End of 2009 W L T PCT PTS GF GA W L T PCT GF GA x-missouri State 7 1 1.833 22 12 6 12 5 2.684 28 16 $-Drake 6 3 1.650 19 20 12 16 7 2.680 52 33 x-creighton 4 2 4.600 16 15 8 7 4 5.594 20 13 x-evansville 5 4 1.550 16 12 9 12 8 2.591 34 25 Eastern Illinois 2 6 1.278 7 7 17 6 8 3.441 19 24 Bradley 1 9 0.100 3 5 19 6 11 1.361 20 26 -------------------- Central Arkansas 7 7 1.500 15 22 SIU Edwardsville 5 9 3.382 9 17 Central Arkansas & SIU Edwardsville join the Valley as affiliates this season $-MVC Tournament Champ x-mvc Tournament qualifier Upcoming Games Wednesday, September 1 Season Openers Bradley at Saint Peter s (N.J.), 3 p.m. Oral Roberts at Central Arkansas, 4 p.m. Creighton at Loyola, 7 p.m. Missouri State at SMU, 7 p.m. Western Illinois at SIU Edwardsville, 7 p.m. Friday, September 3 Eastern Illinois at Kentucky, 6:30 p.m. Bradley at Fairfield (Conn.), 6 p.m. Evanvsille vs Washington, 6:30 p.m. #14 Drake at Michigan, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 4 Belmont at SIU Edwardsville, 7 p.m. Central Arkansas at UMKC, 7 p.m. UNC Greensboro at Creighton, 7 p.m. OT WINS IN THE VALLEY ERA Year Opponent Score GW Goal 2007 at Asbury 2-1 Alex Harrison 2007 at Kentucky 1-0 Brad Earl 2007 vs Oral Roberts 1-0 Brad Peters 2007 vs Belmont 2-1 Alex Harrison 2006 at Western Illinois 1-0 Brad Earl 2004 Drury 2-1 Jimmy Klatter 2001 W.
