2016 Southeast TN Heifer & Bull Sale October 28 2016 7 p.m. General Information Sales Agent Athens Stockyard Sale Committee Dean Williams, Autumn Williams, Tim Woods, Larry Mitchell, Jayson Vicars, Jeff Latham, Don Wilson, David Bilderback, Shane Williams, Mark Irvin, and Kathy Lankford Screening Committee Will be made up of sale committee members Sale Procedure Heifers will be sold in lots by consigner, breed type, size, and expected calving date. First calf heifers will be sold in lots by consignor. Heifers become the property of the purchaser immediately after sale. No cattle will be loaded until the conclusion of the sale. Cattle payments will be collected and consigner checks issued by Athens Stockyard. Announcements Any changes in information of any kind will be announced from the auction block and such announcements shall take final precedence. Purchaser s Risk Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as the auctioneer declares it sold! Any disputes concerning animals after purchase and once the animals leave the premises will be handled between buyer and seller, not the sales agent s /management or committees. Breeding Guarantees Bred females are safe in calf females that have been examined by a veterinarian and are so guaranteed. Buyer will have up until 30 days after the sale ( 27, 2016) to have bred females re-examined for confirmed pregnancy. Buyer s failure to re-examine bred females before that date will absolve seller of any duty or obligation to buyer. All disputes herein will be handled between buyer and seller. Athens Stockyard and UT Extension, their staff and employees, along with the Sale and Screening Committees will serve as agents only. Rights and Obligations The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. The information in the sale catalog is provided by the seller and in no way is warranted by Athens Stockyard, UT Extension, or any other persons connected with the management of the sale. Transportation and Overnight Care The South East TN Heifer Sale assumes no liability in transportation. Transportation for a fee can be arranged and must be scheduled with Athens Stockyard before the sale. Buyers who arrange transportation prior to the sale must notify Athens Stockyard no later than the conclusion of the sale with delivery instructions. Southeast TN Heifer Sale Guidelines Bred Heifer Eligibility Requirements **Limited to no more than 25 head per consignor** (Number of head allowed by consignor may be adjusted at the discretion of the Screening Committee.) RECORDS - All Bred Heifers must be born on consigner s farm or from a known origin with production records indicating approximate birth date/age, sire and dam information (source and age verified) if possible, and all heifers must be bred to calving ease bulls (known EPD s). All Heifers must be tagged with South East TN EID Heifer Tag furnished free of charge. Tags may be picked up or mailed after entry form and fees are submitted. WEANING REQUIREMENTS: Heifers shall be vaccinated and boostered for IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, Leptospirosis, Haemophilus Somnus, 7-strain clostridial, Pasteurella, and dewormed according to BQA standards. Heifers should be treated for internal and external parasites. All lot numbers of vaccines should be recorded and turned in prior to sale date. All heifers should be de-horned, or more preferably polled. BULL REQUIREMENTS: All bulls must have complete EPD information Bulls must be at or below breed average in one of the following: Calving Ease, and/or Birth Weight. QUALIFICATIONS FOR TAEP COST SHARE BRED BEEF HEIFERS *TAEP Cost share Qualifying and Non-Qualifying Heifers will be listed separate in the catalog and sold separate at the sale. In addition to the above requirements, in order for bred heifers to qualify for the $400/head TAEP Costshare, the following requirements must be met by consigners: * Sire of Bred Beef Heifers must have EPD s from an eligible TAEP breed association. * Heifers must be bred to a bull that meets TAEP Calving Ease bull type requirements with a minimum accuracy level set by TDA. * Producer Affidavit forms must be completed by seller. * Heifers must test negative for PI-BVD (certificate required). * Age: Maximum = 28 months at time of purchase. * Pregnancy status: Minimum 90 days bred at date of purchase. * Size: Minimum 800 pounds at pregnancy exam and minimum frame score of M2. * Veterinarian Affidavit forms must be completed. ENTRY FORMS/FEES: There is a $25 per head entry fee due by September 1 st, the fee is non-refundable unless animal does not pass final screening or fails to meet qualifications due to circumstances beyond consigners control. There will also be a $25 flat sale fee per consigned animal the day of the sale, therefore the total sale fee is $50 per animal. Should a consignor No Sale an animal, neither of the above stated fees will be refunded, therefore there will be a $50 No Sale fee. Note: All proceeds from the sale after expenses will be donated to the McMinn and Meigs County Cattlemen s Associations. **This is a Not For Profit Sale** The Bred Heifer Entry Form has 4 parts, 1 of which is due by September 1 st Entry Form and Fees ($25 per animal)-due no later than September 1 st Heifer Consignment Form and Vet Preg Check Documentation-Due no later than October 1 st Bull Information Form-Due no later than October 1 st BQA Processing Records-Due no later than October 28th 4

Southeast TN Heifer Sale Guidelines HEIFER SCREENING: Initial Screening All heifers must be medium frame #1 or better. Initial screening will take place sometime in September. You will be contacted to set up a date for this initial screening. All heifers must meet a target weight of 750 pounds for British breeds and 850 pounds for Continental Breeds before breeding. Heifers must be feed 3 to 5 pounds per day of a 12% or higher balanced ration at least 30 days be fore the sale. No horns or pinkeye Final screening All heifers will be subject to a final screening when they arrive on sale day PROCEDURES TO BE CONDUCTED IN FALL 2016: Heifers are pregnancy checked by the consignor s veterinarian at consignor s expense on the farm in September (No later than 30 days before the sale). Consignor must submit documentation from Veterinarian confirming pregnancy check has been completed along with heifer consignment form due on October 1 st. First Calf Heifers with Calves Eligibility Requirements **Limited to no more than 20 pairs per consignor** (Number of head allowed by consignor may be adjusted at the discretion of the Screening Committee) RECORDS - All first calf heifers with calves must be farm raised and/or from a known origin with production records indicating approximate birth date/age, sire and dam information (source and age verified) if possible. Sires of calves must have known EPD s and all calves must be no more than two months of age at time of sale. All Heifers must be tagged with South East TN EID Heifer Tag furnished free of charge. Tags may be picked up or mailed after entry form and fees are submitted. All Calves must be tagged with ear tag with same number matching the South East TN Heifer Tag. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Heifers shall be vaccinated and boostered for IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, Leptospirosis, Haemophilus Somnus, 7-strain clostridial, Pasteurella, and dewormed according to BQA standards. Heifers should be treated for internal and external parasites. All lot numbers of vaccines should be recorded and turned in prior to sale date. All open heifers in the sale will be born on consignor s farm. All Heifers must be tagged with South East TN Heifer Tag furnished free of charge. Tags may be picked up or mailed after entry form and fees are submitted. HEALTH PROGRAM (Any product Brand) 1. Vaccination with respiratory vaccine (IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV) 2 doses 2. Vaccinate with 7-way clostridial (Blackleg) 2 doses 3. Vaccinate against Pasteurella haemolytical/multocida bacterin-leukotoxoid 4. Vaccinated and boostered with Leptospirosis 5 way 5. Dewormed 6. No Growth Implants 7. Weaned 45 days minimum 8. Adjusted to feed bunk and fed a balanced ration for a minimum of 45 days 9. Adjusted to water tank 10. Dehorned if needed 11. Vaccinate against Haemophilus somnus (2 doses) Optional ENTRY FORMS/FEES: There is a $15 per head entry fee due by September 1 st, the fee is non-refundable unless animal does not pass final screening or fails to meet qualifications due to circumstances beyond consigners control. There will also be a $25 flat sale fee per consigned animal the day of the sale, therefore the total sale fee is $40 per animal. Should a consignor No Sale an animal, neither of the above stated fees will be refunded, therefore there will be a $40 No Sale fee. Note: All proceeds from the sale after expenses will be donated to the McMinn and Meigs County Cattlemen s Asso ciations. **This is a Not For Profit Sale** Entry Forms for Open Heifers are due no later than September 1 st Open Heifer Consignment Form are due no later than October 1 st Vaccination records complete with lot numbers are due no later than October 28th INITIAL SCREENING All heifers will be screened by the South East TN Heifer Sale Screening Committee (September) to meet the following minimum standards: Medium or Large Frame (Minimum weight of 600 lbs) #1 (heavy) Muscled Two good eyes, no pinkeye scars No horns No Rat Tails Good Disposition Final Screening: All heifers will be subject to a visual screening the day of the sale by the SETN Heifer Sale Committee to cull out any heifers with problems that may affect their productive potential. Sale Requirements: All heifers will be brought to Athens Stockyard no later than 11 a.m. on October 28th. Heifers will be grouped and sold in uniformed lots by producer. 7

All guarantees are made by the consignor and not the Sale Agent(s), management, or committees. *New Out of State Bulls Importation Requirements All out of state bulls must meet the Trichomoniasis Importation Requirements set forth by the State Veterinarian, A copy of the State Veterinarian order and requirements can be found at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Website or a copy may be picked up at Athens Stockyard or your local Extension Office. In addition, there will be a $25 flat sale fee per consigned animal the day of the sale. Therefore the total sale fee is $50. Should a consignor No Sale an animal neither of the above stated fees will be refunded, therefore there will be a $50 No Sale fee. 10
