Texas Stars: Media Notes TONIGHT S MATCHUP The Texas Stars (26-22-3-2) return to Allstate Arena for the second time in four nights to face the Chicago Wolves (30-17-5-1). The Stars fell to the Wolves 3-1 in their second morning matchup with the Wolves on Thursday as Chicago has continued to roll on home ice winning six of their last eight games in Rosemont, Illinois (6-1-1-0). Texas has earned points in three of the last four games away from home. Through four meetings, the Wolves hold the edge with three wins. The teams will play three games in the next seven days. Historically, Texas is 30-14-1-3 against the Wolves with 16 wins on the road. PLAYERS TO WATCH - Texas: Stars captain Justin Dowling has busted out of his scoring funk in a big way. After posting just two goals in his previous 25 games, Dowling has connected with the back of the cage three times in the last four contests. The center remains as the Stars second highest scorer this season, notching 41 points (12-29=41) in 49 games, leading the team in assists and ranking 12 th in the league with 15 helpers on the man advantage. - Chicago: Wolves forward Brooks Macek enters tonight s game with eight points (3-5=8) in his last nine games. The Chicago skater has three points (1-2=3) in four games against the Stars but ranks second on the Wolves roster with 50 points (22-28=50) while skating in all of the team s 53 games this year. LAST TIME OUT - Texas: Friday, Feb. 22 The Stars forced a 5-round shootout with the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday to earn a point in the 4-3 decision at Van Andel Arena. Denis Gurianov opened the scoring in the first period but the Griffins took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission on tallies from Givani Smith, Libor Sulak, and Tanner Elson. In the second period, the Stars power play took over as Justin Dowling and Niklas Hansson equalized the game. Landon Bow and Patrik Rybar held down the fort through the third period and overtime. Travis Morin and Joel Hanley each net goals in the shootout, but Derek Hulak ended the skills competition in the fifth round. Bow ended the night with 28 saves while Rybar stopped 34 shots. - Chicago: Saturday, Feb. 23 The Wolves claimed a 3-2 victory over Grand Rapids on Saturday night with forwards Curtis McKenzie, Brooks Macek and Keegan Kolesar finding the back of the net. Goaltender Max Lagace earned his 13th win of the year with 24 saves. Matt Puempel and Wade Megan each scored for Grand Rapids with netminder Patrik Rybar recording 20 saves. The teams traded the lead three times in the game but Chicago sent the game winning goal into the net at 3:35 of the third period to preserve the victory. L ESPERANCE IS BACK After seeing his first action in the NHL, Stars center Joel L Esperance has returned to the club from the Dallas Stars and will join the team this afternoon against the Wolves. The winger has missed the last five AHL games and played four games with Dallas. Prior to his call up and making his NHL debut on February 16, 2019 against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Brighton, Michigan native led the AHL with 27 goals and has continued to pace the Texas Stars with 42 points (27-15=42). His 11 power play goals are tied for fourth in the AHL while his five game-winning tallies lead all rookie skaters in the 201-8-19 campaign. In his last game with the Stars, L Esperance scored his fifth goal in six games to help Texas earn a 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Admirals. HANSSON FOR TWO Stars defenseman Niklas Hansson scored a power play goal on Friday to help force overtime against the Grand Rapids Griffins and also added an assist on Denis Gurianov s opening tally in the first period. It is just the second time in his two AHL seasons that the Swedish skater has collected a pair of points in a game. His last two point performance came on Oct. 27, 2017 vs. San Diego Gulls, earning a pair of assists. Hansson has earned 10 points (4-6=10) in 45 games and is one point from tying his personal best of 11 points recorded in 2017-18. GURIANOV CONNECTS Third-year winger Denis Gurianov notched his third point in four games against the Griffins, scoring the opening goal on Friday night. Amid a season where he has earned four separate promotions to the NHL, Gurianov has produced 37 points (14-23=37) in 38 games, setting a single season high in his career. The Russian forward leads the Texas roster, averaging nearly a point per game. END OF THE TRIP The Stars wrap up a four-game road trip today in Chicago and prepare to return to H-E-B Center at Cedar Park after posting a 1-1-0-1 record in the first three games of the trip. The club is 9-15-2-2 away from home this season and following today s afternoon contest, the Stars will have just nine road contests remaining on the schedule. As of Wednesday night, Texas will begin its final 15 games at home. The club s home stand consists of a set of three games in four nights, facing Milwaukee Wednesday before hosting Chicago for a pair of weekend games to open the month of March. BOW BACK FROM DALLAS The Dallas Stars returned goaltender Landon Bow to the Texas Stars on Wednesday afternoon. The third-year netminder missed seven games in the AHL while backing up in the NHL, but started on Friday night in Grand Rapids. The St. Albert, Alberta native has made 18 saves on 19 shots across 58 minutes of work in the NHL, entering a pair of games in relief. Bow ranks among the top-10 goaltenders with more than 1930 minutes played and 18 victories this year. In his last three outings, Bow set a personal record with 86 minutes of shutout hockey, earning his second career bagel against Milwaukee on Feb. 6. NEW MAN ON TOP For the first time since January, Joel L Esperance is not the top goal scorer in the AHL. Chicago forward Daniel Carr overtook the Stars rookie forward with his 28 th goal of the year on Thursday morning, scoring an empty net goal. The Stars center, who now ranks tied for seconds in the AHL scoring race with 27 goals, missed the last five games while skating with the Dallas Stars in his first career NHL call-up. Carr leads the league in overall scoring with 66 points (28-38=66) in just 47 AHL games. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native has played an additional six NHL games this year and contributed a goal to the Vegas Golden Knights. TIGHT DECISIONS The Stars have been playing good hockey across the last month of hockey, holding close to a.500 record since Jan. 25. Ten of the last 12 games have been decided by two or fewer goals as Texas has held a 5-6-0-1 record in that stretch. Overall this year, Texas is 9-7-3-3 in one

goals games this year and 6-7-0-0 in two goal decisions. The Stars have played the fewest overtime games in the AHL this year with only nine games extending into the extra session. The club is 2-3 in overtime and 1-3 in the shootout. Last season the Stars finished the campaign 23-5- 8-6 in one goal games and 6-7-0-0 in two goal games, while also achieving an 11-8 record in overtime and 3-6 record in the shootout in a Western Conference leading 28 overtime decisions.
