Northwestern Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller was recently named the United States Women s Lacrosse U19 head coach. Amonte Hiller will guide to US through the 2019 FIL Rathbones U19 World Championships in Peterborough, Ontario. Amonte Hiller played in three World Championships for Team USA, leading the Americans to gold medals in 1997 and 2001. She was named to the All-World Team following a silver-medial finish in the 2005 championships. IT S A FACT, QuiNN IS ON ATTACK After earning Third-Team All-American honors as a sophomore defender, Claire Quinn will flip the field and play primarily on attack in 2018. Quinn showed off her scoring prowess down the stretch last season, scoring a career-high four goals in the Wildcats NCAA first-round victory over Albany. Quinn led thee Cats with 36 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls last year. TRIO OF Cats EARN PRESEASON HONORS Senior Shelby Fredericks (first team), Quinn (first team) and junior Selena Lasota (second team) were named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American team earlier this week. THE RETURN Lasota returns to the lineup after missing the final 17 games of last season and the 2017 FIL Rathbones World Championships due to injury. Lasota became the fastest player in program history to reach 100 career goals during her sophomore season and is just 13 goals from cracking NU s career top 10. A two-time Tewaaraton Watch List selection, Lasota has scored 127 goals in 46 career games. NEWS & NOTES PLAYER TO WATCH RULE THE DRAW, RULE THE WORLD Senior Shelby Fredericks set the NU single-season record with 160 draw controls last season, ranking third in the country. She needs 110 draws in her senior season to break Alyssa Leonard s program record of 469. The West Babylon, New York, native is the nation s active leader in draw controls and is second in draw controls per game. Last season s NCAA leader in draw controls, Hannah Murphy of UMass, is in her first season as an assistant coach at Northwestern. ONE MORE GO AROUND After entering the offseason thinking her Northwestern career was over, senior Danita Stroup was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA following a rule change. Stroup, who was a member of the Canadian National Team that won a silver medal at the 2017 FIL Rathbones World Championships, set a career high with 42 goals last season and is the Cats returning leader in the category. SISTER, SISTER The Northwestern roster includes four sets of sisters, including the Copeland trio of junior Nell and first-year twins Kate and Carson. The list also includes... Seniors Sheila and Shannon Nesselbush Senior Danita Stroup and first year Brianna Stroup Junior Olivia and redshirt first year Carli Harpel In addition the Cats sister connections, first year Jill Girardi will have the opportunity to square off versus her older sister Morgan. A junior midfielder for Detroit, Morgan was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon Team and ranks 11th in Detroit history in goals (74) and draw controls (51). Enters 2018 on a nine-game point streak. Scored 16 of her 19 goals over the final nine games. - Nicole Beardsley -
