Selke Trophy as the NHL s top defensive forward, John Madden, 45, was named head coach of the Cleveland Monsters by the Columbus Blue Jackets on August 29, 2016 following the departure of Monsters head coach Jared Bednar, who was hired in mid-august 2016 as head coach of the NHL s Colorado Avalanche. Madden registered 165 goals, 340 points, 219 penalty minutes and a +20 rating in 898 career NHL appearances for the New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers spanning 13 seasons from 1998 to 2012. Madden helped the Devils claim the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 before again hoisting hockey s Holy Grail in 2010 with Chicago. A Toronto, Ontario native, Madden spent parts of three seasons as an assistant coach with Florida from 2013-16 and in 2018-19, enters his third season as Monsters head coach. A member of the Monsters 2016 Calder Cup Championship team, McCarthy logged 302 career NHL appearances as a defenseman for the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Thrashers during a professional playing career that spanned 16 seasons from 2000-2016 and also featured stops in the AHL, KHL and ECHL, along with stints in the top Finnish and Swiss leagues. Trent Vogelhuber, Assistant Coach Vogelhuber, 30, is a Dublin, Ohio, native and was the first player from the Columbus area drafted by the Blue Jackets, selected in the seventh round at the 2007 NHL Draft. He played six seasons as a pro, registering 28 goals and 45 assists for 73 points with 191 penalty minutes in 267 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons, Lake Erie Monsters and San Antonio Rampage.
