Page 1 THE BLIZZARD Volume 11, Issue 10 Newington Ski Club s Newsletter The President Says... Greetings and welcome to the Newington Ski Club! We ve had a month of great meetings which have been very well attended, so give yourselves a hand. Now that you ve joined the club and purchased your bulk tickets, you can settle into the free flow and pining for the season. Don t forget to check your equipment so you re ready for that first powder day. There are many sales going on this month, so keep your eyes open and/or just stop by one of our meetings for all the scoops. With the club membership off to a great start, I am hoping I will see each of you at least a few times in the coming days. It may be at a regular meeting, or perhaps at the Open House on November 18 th, or the Snowball on November 19 th. We ve also got Pete Noyes Memorial Hike on November 12 th, so there s plenty to keep you occupied until the first tracks of the season. See you soon! Robert A. Rusty Cushman NSC President Fall Hike Saturday, October 22nd This year s fall hike is the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail (Seven Sisters) in the Holyoke Range. It will be a 6 mile hike. This will be either an out and back trail for some or a point-to-point with a car spot being done. Make sure to bring appropriate clothing, water, lunch/snacks and wear hiking boots. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the DOT commuter parking lot off Rt 91 exit 37. Heading North take the exit then take a right at the stop light and the lot will be on your right very quickly. Or you can go to a mapping sight and plug in: Skinner State Park So Hadley, MA For more information contact: Bruce Laroche uncmoos@comcast.net or 860-828-1558 or Lisa Day Ld09@hotmail.com If you decided to go, it may be good to give either Lisa or Bruce a heads up, so they know you will be there on the 22 nd. Membership It s time to renew your membership in the Newington Ski Club! I was late getting registration open, but a whole lot of you are raring to go, as the pace the membership roll is filling at, is only a little off last season. More surprising is that we already have a large number of new members signed on. I have a big roll of CSC stickers and if you are in the first wave of renewing and new members; you can get yours at one of the upcoming Club meetings prior to the Open House. So if you are ready to make preparations for the 2011/2012 Ski and Boarding Season head to our website at newingtonskiclub.org and click on the link on the Membership Page; it will take you to our registration at active.com. The online discount price applies now through November 18, 2011. Remember you do not need to join active.com to join the Newington Ski Club. Also be reminded that we are using Permanent Membership Cards. Your current membership card will be you membership card for the 2011/2012 Ski Season. Once you have joined, you will be provided the current year s CSC sticker to affix to your card. New members will receive a Membership Card with the 2011/2012 Connecticut Ski Council Sticker. For Lifetime members, there will be a paper application available at Club meetings in lieu of the online registration. As always, all members new and old will be required to sign the Waiver acknowledging the risks of our sport and releasing the Club of liability. So, sign up again for all the great benefits of the Newington Ski Club and spread the word with your friends and neighbors. New for this year the Board of Directors voted to add a membership category for Active Duty Military. Their membership price is the same as for College Students. Finally, please provide your personal email address at signup, so we do not inundate our Club volunteers with automated out of office replied.
