KIRBY ARENA RENOVATIONS Kirby Sports Center underwent the arena in Kirby Sports Center recently underwent a $1.7 million renovation prior to the start of the 2013-14 academic year. Three major changes were in store for the arena project that will was overseen by Clough, Harbor and Associates: new seating, the addition of a video scoreboard and an LED scorer s table. All of the seating was replaced in the arena. The seating in the sections along each sideline is chairback seating. In addition, new bleacher seating was added in each endzone, closing in the court which was previously opened at the end farthest from the arena entrance. The capacity of the arena was changed to 2,644 to accommodate the chairback and bleacher seats. A four-sided scoreboard/video board replaces the scoreboard in the middle of the arena ceiling. The videoboard will provide the opportunity for instant replays along with a host of video content similar to the in-game entertainment opportunities afforded by the video board in Fisher Stadium. An LED scorer s table will rest on the north sideline, between the team benches with similar capabilities to the videoboard. To control the videoboard and LED scorer s table, a control room will be added on the third floor of Kirby Sports Center. In addition to the major changes, new painting, lighting and arena branding projects were completed as well as a new floor design to complete the overhaul of the arena. PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT With the addition of Boston University and Loyola Maryland to the Patriot League this season, the basketball tournaments for both the men and the women will feature all 10 members. Waller has played in all 13 games, drawing two starts for the Leopards and has scored 12 points. TEAM CAPTAINS A trio of seniors will lead the Leopards on the court this season, as Nolan will rely on Madeline Fahan, Danielle Fiacco and Kristan Liddle to step into leadership roles this season. This is Fiacco s second year in as a captain, as she looks to continue her record-breaking career. Fahan has been a key contributor for the Leopards for the past three seasons, playing in 85 games, the most by any Lafayette player since she set foot on College Hill. Liddle has been a spark plug for the Maroon and White in her career, as she always brings energy and enthusiasm to the court. SCHEDULE Three teams that qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament, including a team that advanced to the Final Four, trips to Chicago and California and 12 games inside Kirby Sports Center highlight the 2013-14 Lafayette women s basketball schedule.the Leopards slate of non-conference oppononents included teams from 10 different leagues, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Big Ten and the Pac 12. The Maroon and White began Patriot League play on Jan. 2 at Army and then hosted Navy on Jan. 5 for their League home opener. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS Seniors co-captains Madeline Fahan and Kristan Liddle played their first collegiate games in their home state at the end of December when the Leopards made the trip across the country to play California. Fahan played her high school basketball at Ventura High School, where she averaged 14.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game as team captain her senior year. Liddle played for Irvine High, was a team captain her junior and senior year and average a double-double (14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds per game) in her career. At the end of her high school career, Liddle was the program s all time leader with 1,558 points and 1,126 rebounds. FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING The Leopards will meet three opponents for the first time in school history this season. On Nov. 27 Lafayette tipped off against Big Ten foe Northwestern for the first time. Stony Brook visited College Hill on Dec. 8 for the first meeting between the two schools. The Maroon and White traveled to the west coast on Dec. 29 for their first ever meeting with one of last year s final four teams, California. SUB IN Through 13 games this season, 13 players have seen time, with nine getting minutes in every game. Nolan has used the same starting five for six games, Peabody, O Hare, Macklin, Liddle and Homan. Liddle, Macklin and Peabody lead the Leopards with nine starts apiece. 2013-14 Game Notes Lafayette Women s Basketball

Game 13 Lafayette Leopards Head Coach Dianne Nolan Dianne Nolan is in her fourth season as head coach of the Lafayette women s basketball program. Nolan, who owns 35 seasons of head coaching experience, boasts a career record of 547-476, which ranks her 18th in victories among active Division I head coaches and 40th all-time in the Division I ranks. The Leopards posted an 8-22 mark in Nolan s second campaign while introducing several promising newcomers to the collegiate game. Emily Homan 15 was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year after leading all freshmen in points, rebounds, blocked shots and free throw percentage during league play. The 2011-12 Leopards also established a new program and Patriot League record with 188 blocked shots. The club ranked second in the nation, trailing only eventual national champion Baylor, with 6.3 rejections per game. In her first season at the helm, Nolan led the Leopards to an 11-19 record - a five-win improvement from the previous season - while dramatically increasing the excitement surrounding the program on College Hill. The fifth head coach in Lafayette history, Nolan coached a pair of All-Patriot League players: second-team honoree LaKeisha Wright 11 and Patriot League All-Rookie Team member Danielle Fiacco 14. Prior to taking the helm at Lafayette, Nolan spent three seasons as an assistant at Yale University, including her final campaign in 2009-10 as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Nolan headed the recruiting effort that assembled much of the 2010-11 Bulldogs team that advanced to the WNIT, Yale s first-ever appearance in a national postseason tournament. In 28 years as the head coach at Fairfield University, she accumulated a program-record 456 wins and led the Stags to four NCAA Tournament appearances. Nolan s teams won three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, and she earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors on five occasions. With Fairfield s 69-53 victory at Rider on Jan., 29, 2006, Nolan became the 28th coach in Division I history with 500 career wins. Nolan took over the Fairfield program in 1979, and oversaw its transition to the Division I level in 1981. Her 28-year tenure is among the longest head coaching reigns at one school in NCAA Division I women s basketball history. Under her watch, the Stags captured four NCAA Tournament berths and a spot in the 2000 WNIT. Fairfield won three MAAC regular season crowns and three MAAC Tournament championships. Nolan s first two Division I Fairfield teams each won 18 games before her 1983-84 team posted a 22-6 record. That was the first of six 20-win seasons, including three 25-win campaigns. Her 1999-2000 and 2000-01 teams each won 25 games, earned back-to-back at-large postseason appearances and posted a combined 50-14 record during that span. The 1999-2000 team played Wisconsin in the WNIT, and her 2000-01 squad received just the second at-large NCAA Tournament bid in MAAC history. Her first conference crown came in 1988, when the Stags knocked off La Salle, 55-50, in the MAAC Championship Game before falling to St. John s in the NCAA Tournament. The Stags returned to the NCAA Tournament as MAAC champions in 1991 and 1998. In addition to her five MAAC Coach of the Year honors, Nolan was also named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Coach of the Year in 2001 and earned New England Coach of the Year laurels in 1984. Nolan earned a bachelor s degree in Health and Physical Education from Glassboro State University (now Rowan University), where she was a foursport student-athlete, in 1973. She earned a master s degree in Physical Education from West Virginia University in 1974 and a second master s degree in Political and Corporate Communication from Fairfield University in 1989. Nolan is a member of the Connecticut Women s Basketball Hall of Fame as well as the Halls of Fame at both of her previous head coaching stops and her alma mater. In 2008, she was inducted into the Camden (N.J.) County Sports Hall of Fame.
