The May meeting at Foster s Grille in Cameron Village was attended by eleven folks. I could not be there due to commitments at work, however, the meeting was ably run by Mary Ann Gracely. Thanks for taking over Mary Ann. Elsewhere in the golf news is the report for an event in Tennessee that was very enjoyable with winners from our group. There is no regular meeting scheduled for July so please mark your calendars accordingly and we will meet again in August. Keep watching the emails for golf news and social events when scheduled. The chairs of these committees are excellent at letting us know about events through email channels. I take the time to say thanks to Sandy Dellavode who is stepping down as cochair of membership. Bobby Jones continues as co chair and the Board is in contact about a new co chair coming on board. That will be announced to everyone when we have an answer from the person the board has asked to consider this position. In the meantime, Bobby is continuing his good work with membership. Have a great 4th July weekend everyone. ~Margo Acomb, President Golf News On June 12th 8 members played at Keith Hills (Orange & White) in Buies Creek on a great day for golf. We played the Criers format which meant after your final score was added you deducted the two worst holes. Steve Lush won the men s Crier s in what was his last outing with us for at least awhile. Lee Thayne won the women s Crier s. The winners received cold hard cash from the $1.00 per player collected which amounted to $4.00 each. After the golf the group met at Cooley s Restaurant in Fuquay-Varina for some good food and cool drinks. On June 19th 13 players met at The Tradition at Chapel Ridge in Pittsboro to play a low gross/low net event. Among the 13 players we had two guests from two different chapters. Former Raleigh member Jeff Swoager now from the Pinehurst Chapter joined us along with Bonnie from the Triad Chapter. It was a very hot day but we were able to survive it and gather at the Carolina Brewery in Pittsboro for again, some great food and liquid refreshment. Winners of the Low Gross/ Low Net were for the Ladies Sandra Ross low gross with a 91 and Mary Kershaw low net with a 101/ 77. For the men Larry Knott won the low gross with an 80 and Doug Alm the low net with an 84/65. The winners received a sleeve of Titliest golf balls. Congrats to all the winners!! Tennessee / Carolina Challenge: Eight members of the Raleigh Chapter traveled to Dandridge, TN for the 11th Annual Tennessee/Carolina Challenge. Margo Acomb, Doug Alm, Barb Anderson, Bobby Jones, Irene Kennedy, Gay Rosenberg, Sandra Ross and Lee Thayne represented part of the 112 golfers that converged on the River Island Course in Kodak to compete in Saturday s Challenge. Although the Carolina players tried hard they failed in their attempt to defeat Tennessee. Only two of Raleigh s members were successful in their matches. First-timers Barb Anderson and Gay Rosenberg both won their matches and collected $10.00. For only the third time in the eleven year history of this event did Tennessee meet the Challenge. Tennessee won 141/2 to 81/2 points. This was the lowest point total for Carolina in the eleven year history of this event. Congratulations Tennessee, well done! Carolina will be coming at you harder next year!! Two of our players were successful with their teams in winning. Bobby Jones team collected first place winnings of $20.00 in the green flight with a score of 159 in the two best ball two man scramble format foursome. Doug Alms team won second place ($10.00) in the blue flight with a 149 score with the same format. Congratulations to Bobby and first-timer Doug on their winnings.
