Dear FHS Swimmers, Divers and Families, The Fairview Girls Swimming and Diving Team is in the planning stage for the annual fall training trip. This year, the team will travel to La Jolla, California for the days of Wednesday, November 15 Wednesday, November 22. The purpose of this email is to share details, solicit questions and to get a solid indication of the number of athletes interested in committing to the trip. Last year 45 athletes, including 11 freshman, and 6 adults took a similar trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The primary goals of the trip are swim and dive training in a beautiful outdoor facility, team building, cultural enrichment and fun. Athletes who do not attend the trip will have regularly scheduled practice, both swimming and diving, in Boulder. Swim/dive practices in both California and Boulder will count toward the five practice days required by CHSSA to compete with the team. While in La Jolla, the team will stay at the Marriott Residence Inn La Jolla, a great location close to the training pool, La Jolla Cove and many of the area s best activities. The athletes will train daily at the Friedenberg Olympic Pool just minutes from the hotel. The team will take advantage of the beautiful California location and enjoy the beaches, marine life, and the area s top attractions. We would like to achieve an adult/student ratio of 6:1 and plan to have 6 adult chaperones plus two coaches accompany the girls on the trip. It would be greatly appreciated if a Dive parent would be willing to chaperone. If you are interested in joining the trip as a dive-parent chaperone, please contact Lisa Chinn at 303-330-4479 or nuggleblanket@gmail.com with any questions you may have! Freshman swimmers and divers are strongly encouraged to join the trip. It is a great way to get to know teammates and make many friends. Families are also welcome, but will need to make their own transportation and lodging arrangements while in California. In addition, families will pay for items separately, e.g. activities, food, accommodations & airfare. We will discuss the trip in detail at our Preseason Swim/Dive Meeting that will be held at Fairview during an evening in early September. DIVERS: We are working with a local US Diving Club so that we will have excellent coaching and dive time for our divers who want to attend the trip. Dive details will be confirmed later and some of the dive practices may be at other venues and times than the swim practices. Full transit and supervision will be provided for our divers. It would be greatly appreciated if a Dive Parent would join the trip as a chaperone.

IMPORTANT: $100 DEPOSIT DUE BY AUGUST 15! Due to restrictive group airline reservation policies this year, we must have your $100 deposit by August 15 to secure your spot on the trip. Dates of the 2017 FHS California Training Trip are: Depart Wednesday, November 15, 2017 - evening flight, the girls will attend a full day of school prior to departing Return Wednesday, November 22, 2017 Cost: The cost of the 2017 trip will be: $1100. As always, need based scholarships are available upon request. This price will cover the cost for: Round-trip airfare Lodging Pool rental All breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners Most group activities Ground transportation Hotel Accommodations: Residence Inn by Marriott La Jolla, 8901 Gilman Dr., La Jolla, CA 92037; ph: 954-524-8733 Two-bedroom suites include: 2 bathrooms, queen size beds, full kitchens and will accommodate up to 7 girls per suite. Prior to the girls arrival, our parent chaperones will purchase the week's grocery supply for lunches, snacks and dinners. The hotel will provide a full hot breakfast daily. Athletes will be responsible for preparing some of their own lunches (adult supervision is available). Group dinners will be prepared or provided by the parent chaperones. A trip questionnaire will be sent out in early October from the team asking team members to log on to Survey Monkey and answer questions regarding room assignments, dietary restrictions, allergies and activities. Parents are required to sign off on the survey answers. In their suites, the athletes will have at least one good friend. However, an effort will be made to mix girls of different school years and different swim/dive backgrounds. The maximum number of girls in each 2-bedroom suite will be 7.

Flight Information: Group flights will arrive and depart from San Diego, California. We are currently scheduled to travel via Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. Wednesday, November 15 Southwest Departs Denver (DEN) @ 7:55pm Arrives San Diego (SAN) @ 9:20 pm Wednesday, November 22 United Departs San Diego (SAN) @ 6:01 pm Arrives Denver (DEN) @ 9:14 pm Please keep in mind we are always subject to airline schedule changes. Swim Facilities: Friedenberg Olympic Pool, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center 4126 Executive Dr., La Jolla, CA http://www.lfjcc.org/qualcomm/aquatics.aspx This fantastic training facility has 50 meter competition pools and a diving well. The athletes swim/dive practices will be held once or twice per day, in the mornings and early evenings. We will provide a full schedule of practices prior to the trip. Team activities that are being considered include sea kayaking in LaJolla Cove, a night at the movies, tide pooling, beach days at local beaches, the San Diego Zoo, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, and planned group activities at our hotel and beach. All team activities are chaperoned and are a lot of fun for the entire team. Important Note: BVSD requires high school sports physicals be completed before the start of the sports season. Documentation from the physician is required to be eligible to participate. Flu shots are highly recommended for all athletes. Athletes traveling are required to complete several BVSD medical forms. These forms will be distributed to all traveling athletes in early fall. The trip will be limited to 42 athletes. Due to stricter airline policies, and a finite number of sleeping accommodations and ground transportation, we are requiring a small deposit of $100 to hold an athletes spot on this trip. This deposit will be applied to the full cost of the trip.

Please address questions to Lisa Chinn at nuggleblanket@gmail.com phone: 303-330-4479 OR Bob Smartt at swimfhs@gmail.com Second, the trip is limited to 42 athletes.
