Spring 2014 Vol. 2014 Issue 1 Happy 50 th Mustang on April 17th Next Meeting: April 12 th 2:00 at Mustangs Unlimited Celebration Logo Best of Show One of 3 Cougars in Attendance Club Making a Showing at Charlotte Event 13-15 club cars will be making the trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the MCA/Ford sponsored celebration of the 50 th anniversary of the date Mustang first went on sale, April 17 th, 1964. Most of us will be driving up on Thursday April 17 and coming back on Sunday the 20 th. We are in for a blast looking at all the different Mustangs, visiting vendors, cruising to downtown Kannapolis Friday evening, and who knows what else. If you want to join us for the ride up to Charlotte, we are meeting at the Cracker Barrel in Commerce (I85 and US441) for breakfast at 7AM and leaving at 8AM sharp Thursday morning. Annual Spring Pony Roundup at Mustangs Unlimited We held our Spring show at Mustangs Unlimited Saturday March 15 th and our March meeting immediately after the show. We had great weather and 111 cars registered for the show and the opportunity to win a Top 20 or Best of Show plaque. See show pictures to left. Cruise in at Mustangs Unlimited April 12th Mustangs Unlimited and the Northeast Georgia Mustang Club are hosting a cruise in at Mustangs Unlimited on Saturday April 12 th from 2-7 to meet members of the French Mustang Club Mustang Passion. Our member JD Chansard is a member of this club and they have 31 members coming over to attend the 50 th Celebration in Charlotte. This is an opportunity to meet them and show them the hobby in the US. So bring your Mustang out and your French to English handbook and have a great time with the cars and the people. There will be a food vendor on site. I ve posted a flyer on the club website. Looking Back Spring 2014 Page 2 The club s after Xmas party and January meeting was held on January 18 th at Keith & Deb Corkern s, thanks for hosting guys. We had a great turnout, counted about 50-52 people in attendance. Everyone got their fill with the potluck dinner, then we had a quick meeting, and ended with the always entertaining white elephant gift exchange. As always there were some great gifts, some interesting ones, and a lot of funny ones. Filled the cul de sac with Mustangs Bill & Carol seem puzzled? Spring 2014 Looking Forward Page 3 MCA National in Savannah If you are thinking about going to Savannah for the MCA National Show October 10th - 12th, a few of us made reservations at the host hotel, see info below. Some may be going down on Thursday others on Friday and everyone that has booked so far is coming back on Monday. We looked around, but other than going way to the outskirts of Savannah which isn't convenient to the show, and a desire to stay close to the historic district, we are staying there at the MCA arranged rate of $149 per night for a King room. No deposit required and cancellation up to the first day of stay or day before, can't remember. Show website is http://www.mustangsinhistoricsavannah.com/ Four Points by Sheraton $149 per night (800)368-7764 (Host Hotel) Upcoming 2014 Events Driving Events: High Speed Fun Atlanta Motorsports Park May 23 rd & 24 th MCA Regional Club Shows: Tara Regional s show at AutoNation Ford in Union City on May 17 th Georgia Regional s show at Hardy Family Ford in Dallas, May 31 st Cherokee Regional s show in Calhoun on June 7 th Other Shows of Interest: NMRA at Atlanta Dragway April 12 th & 13th Atlanta Motorama at Atlanta Motor Speedway April 26 th & 27th Walter Mitty Challenge & Auto Festival at Road Atlanta April 24-27 Old Norcross Days Open Car Show May 17 th Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Anniversary Show in Dawsonville May 24 th FOA All Ford show at Summit Racing July 19 th As we get closer to these events I ll get flyers out (some are already on the website or will be soon), obviously I can t attend them all, but if people let me know they are going and interested in attending as a club, please let me know, and I will help you communicate out to the membership. Maggie Valley 2014 We are in need of sponsors, door prizes, and stuff for goody bags. Door prizes don t have to be big items, even things like a bottle of detailer work, check with local parts stores and other businesses for donations of door prize items and for anything that would go in a goody bag. This year we have two sponsorship levels: bronze that gets the sponsors logo on flyers, t-shirts, and awards, and silver that gets all these things with the logo larger, plus is the named sponsor of one of the best of show awards. Bronze $100, Silver $500. Get with me for additional info if you have someone interested. It would involve planning the route, finding a place to stop for lunch/dinner, maybe stopping at a couple points of interest, and communicating to the membership, organizing a meet place, setting a date, etc. If so, let Rick know and he can put the volunteers together.
