Lake Placid Whiteface Mountain Porsches! People! Oktoberfest! OCTOBER 2-4 2015 FALL TOUR The CNY PCA tour of the Mountains 2015 Welcome to the Fall tour trip to the Mountains! Lake Placid, NY Whiteface Mountain Whiteface Oktoberfest
Fall Tour 2015 Itinerary The Fall tour will start off on Friday morning at the Wegman s parking lot in Dewitt at 8:30am. Please be there at 8am to that we can be ready to have our kick off meeting at 8:15 am and leave by 8:30 am. Wegmans has a good selection of pastries and coffee if you want to show up a little earlier and have a something for breakfast. It important to show up for the start of the trip with a full gas tank and an empty bladder! One of the fun elements of the trip is keeping together in a group for the drive. As we pass though some of the smaller towns you will see the heads turning to watch a parade of Porsche pass by. So having to stop for gas or a rest stop tends to get the whole group separated. We will get a nice lunch break to fill or empty various tanks! The key to keeping the group together is staying close to the Porsche in front of you. We will be traveling through the Adirondacks during leaf looking season so we come across some traffic. Keeping the tourists from cutting in the middle of the group will keep us all together. If the group gets split by a traffic light turning red the lead group will find a place to pull over and wait for the rest to catch up. We am going to actually use the Life 360 Friend Locator app this year you are welcome to try it out or if you aren t in to the techy stuff you can pass on it. There is an app (iphone and android compatible) called Life 360. It s free and it won t mess up your phone with a lot of junk. I have been using it for years with no problems. If you are interested then download the app and I can send an invitation before the tour and we will all be linked up in the CNY Porsche group and you can find anyone on the map in the app at any time. Its fun to know where everybody is and if anybody gets separated they can find us. After the tour you can either delete the app or just delete the CNY group from your app. If you don t I will know where you are all the time!!! If you want to join in on this I would recommend downloading the app and getting it set up before Friday send me your email address and I will invite you to join CNY Porsche and you can test it out before we leave. At 8:30 we will start the journey to Lake Placid. This year the driving will be less than last year about 5 hours of driving total (not including lunch).
Included in the travel plans, by popular demand, is a bathroom break at Blue Mountain Lake where Route 28 meets Route 30 (approx. 3 hours from the start). Lunch will be at Casa Del Sol in Saranac Lake. Casa Del Sol is a fine Mexican style restaurant in Saranac Lake that some of us stopped at on the way back on the last Fall Tour. They are going to open for lunch just for our group Lunch will include an appetizer and a choice of one of six items and desert. Nonalcoholic beverages are included and the cost will be $20 per person ($25.20 including tax and tip). Appetizers: Chips & Salsa Casa Guacamole & Chili con Queso Bruschetta de pan de Maiz Entrees: Burrito Chimichanga Chili Relleno Portobello & Spinach Quesadilla Enchiladas Aztec Totra Dessert: Pudin de Chocolate Flan de Caramelo
It s a fairly short trip to Casa del Sol to Lake Placid, we should arrive at the Wildwood on the Lake in the afternoon leaving the group some free time to poke around the village or just hang out at the Wildwood on the Lake. The welcoming festivities will being as soon as we are all settled in. The location for the welcoming party will be finalized later if the weather is good we can have it one shores of Lake Placid (Beer, wine and soda), appetizers and snacks. If you want to stick around at the welcoming party we will be ordering some pizzas or you can check out some of the Lake Placid restaurants.
Saturday Breakfast is on your own but we can compare notes on Friday night and we may all end up at the same place! At 8:45am we will meet up in the parking lot if the weather is nice or back at the Condo HQ if needed we can make that call when we get there on Friday. At 9am the group will take the scenic drive to Whiteface Mountain. For those unfamiliar with Whiteface Mountain it is one of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks with an amazing view from the top. The toll road to the top is a great scenic drive and at the top there is ample parking and an elevator to the peak. We will take a leisurely drive (well, as leisurely as a pack of Porsches can manage!) on the Whiteface Veteran s Memorial Highway to the top and enjoy the view. Depending on how nice it is we can enjoy the view for quite a while or jump back in our cars and continue to enjoy the adventure!
The Whiteface Veteran s Memorial Highway is a toll road the fee is $11 for the car and driver and $8 for each additional passenger..or FREE with the Olympic Passport! After the trip up Whiteface Mountain we will head to Whiteface Ski area to attend the Oktoberfest at the Ski Area. Admission is $16 for Adults and $10 for seniors..or FREE with the Olympic Passport! At the Oktoberfest there will be live entertainment including "Schuhplattin" (slap dancing), yodeling
and a bunch of guys in leather shorts! In addition there will be craft vendors and food available - time for lunch! Rides on the CloudSplitter Gondola are $20..or FREE with the Olympic Passport! Here is the schedule of events at the Oktoberfest: Once a year, Whiteface dusts off its lederhosen, fires up the oompah band and enjoys a tall mug of German beer. Oktoberfest is a weekend-long celebration of Bavarian culture, with authentic music, dancing, food and beer. But it's not just about eating and drinking (not that there's anything wrong with that). You'll find complimentary rides for kids and adults, craft vendors and discounted trips on the Cloudsplitter Gondola to the summit of Little Whiteface. The views from up there will make it pretty clear why Fall in the Adirondacks is something worth celebrating.
