Manage daily operations of the swimming facilities within the Leisure Centre, including the day to day supervision of lifeguard services provided by suitably qualified staff, to ensure the healthy and safety of patrons 2. Implement facility maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of water quality to assist in keeping pool water in optimum condition 3. Ensure high level of presentation Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience required The position requires the following knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience: - Class 1A drivers licence - Pool Lifeguard Certificate (Lifeguard licence) - Senior First Aid Certificate - Certificate III in Pool Operations - Experience in the operation of oxygen equipment - Advanced Resuscitation - Experience in the supervision of staff - Customer service skills - Negotiation skills for managing behaviour issues with patrons - Communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with staff and customers and motivating a team It would be desirable for the position to have: - Certificate IV in Pool Operations - Aquatic management - Confined spaces certificate NB The incumbent must ensure that certificates and qualifications are maintained on an ongoing basis to ensure current accreditation
Key responsibilities % of time 1. Manage the daily operations of the swimming facilities including security maintenance, team management of lifeguards, security and cleaning staff, operation and maintenance of equipment and performance of lifeguarding duties to contribute to the safe, efficient and effective operation of the aquatic facilities and the health and safety of patrons 2. Supervise lifeguards in their provision of lifeguarding duties to ensure at all times the water space at the Facility is supervised in a reliable, safe, professional and friendly manner 3. Supervise the pool and swimming patrons, performing preventative actions, rescues and first aids where required to ensure the health and safety of pool users 4. Promote and enforce appropriate behaviour standards in an aquatic environment to assist in providing an enjoyable and safe recreation experience for all patrons crowd control 5. Oversee life guard roster and duty to ensure that there is sufficient qualified staff in attendance to operate the facilities and to supervise in accordance with industry and Council standards 6. Coordinate day-to-day aquatic operations, including ensuring plant, and equipment is operated and maintained in a continuous operational state to manufacturers/suppliers/accepted standards and/or specifications to maintain optimum condition of pool water and pool environs. 7. Conduct water testing, basic plant maintenance and the recording and retaining of such records to ensure the highest quality water treatment at all times 8. Implement Facility s opening and closing procedures to ensure procedures are undertaken in accordance to the Facilities Operating Procedures 9. Assist with the set up and storage of equipment used for activities within the Leisure centres to ensure appropriate equipment is available to centre users 10. Oversee the completion of accountable documents (timesheets, logsheets etc.) to ensure that accurate records (such as employee starting and finishing times) are kept and delivered to appropriate staff within agreed time constraints Reporting Relationships Refer to organisational chart on intranet site Direct: Lifeguard (4-5) Security Guards No. of Indirect: Not applicable

Decision-making is general and issues or problems are dealt with independently. The position is responsible for the safe evacuation of patrons from the pool in the event of an emergency situation and responds to and determines an appropriate course of action in the event of an emergency situation e.g. crowd control, emergency situations Problem Solving Challenges facing this position include: Maintaining pool and patron safety given the large numbers of pool users and the range of activity occurring within the pool environment Ensuring the behaviour of all patrons is conducive to the provision of a safe and enjoyable leisure experience given the difficulties in enforcing appropriate behaviour standards Maintaining the quality and condition of the facility and environs given the impact of large numbers of users and weather conditions on the air and pool water quality Maintaining sufficient qualified staff in attendance for lifeguarding duties given that during peak times patron numbers can increase significantly

Achieve set occupational health and safety objectives and develop plans to implement programmes and procedures to ensure compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation and standards. Provide the necessary resources, plant and equipment to ensure the highest standards of health and safety where appropriate, and within the finances made available from the council. 2.
