EVSTLeague Play Start Time to Change from 9:30 to 9:00 A.M. Greenfield is the only EVSTL member that starts league play at 9:30 A.M. The EVSTL committee has asked if Greenfield can move it s league start time from 9:30 to 9:00 A.M. This would require the Early Round Robin to start at 7:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. It is unclear whether moving the Round Robin time to 7:30 a.m. needs to be voted upon by the Home Owners Association because it is not a tennis club activity. Jim Lane did investigate and speak to Mary Ash, i.e. whether RR could be shortened to one hour was discussed and dismissed. Therefore, if RR is moved up a half hour, then the on-line booking system will also have to be moved up a half hour.dave Pettinari volunteered to present the idea to those playing RR in the morning. Dave P. did speak with early morning players and they didn t mind. Mary Ash advised that the matter would be a decision for the Tennis Club. At the Dec. 3rd, 2017, GM Meeting motions for each were made, seconded and passed. 1) Effective December 26, 2017, Online Court Booking will Start at 7:00 a.m. for scheduling court dates December 26, 2017 and out. 2) Effective December 26, 2017, Early Round Robin play will be 7:30 a.m. 3) Effective December 26, 2017. all EVSTL play will Start 4) at 9:00 a.m. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS DISPLAY at the Courts! GV Highlights November 2017 Vol. 1 Issue 2 Page 2 CLUB MEMBERS UPDATES, EVENTS & ACTIVITIES TERRY LANCIAL By Dave Pettinari It is sometimes tragedy in our lives that reshapes us and makes us into the people we are today, the new and improved models of our former selves. When you first meet Terry Lancial, 67, a 2.0 Greenfield Village tennis player, you cannot help but notice how often he laughs and jokes, enjoying each moment of his fun-filled life today. His perspective on life changed, he said, after the tragic loss of his wife of 42 years, a girl he met in high school, and by a medically forced retirement from the railroad job he enjoyed for 38 years after nearly losing his own life due to severe blood clotting. Terry s bounce back to a joyous life came three years ago when he met Mary Anne online at the Christian Mingles web site. After caring for his first wife for three years before she died seven years ago, Terry said Mary Anne has been the best thing that has happened to him since. The couple came to Greenfield Village when Terry s son-in-law s mother suggested he call her brother Jim Merck, who invited them to come take a look. Jim s wife, Molly, was one of Terry s team leads for the 1.5s when he first started playing tennis here three years ago. Terry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a marketing and sales rep for 21 years, traveling to huge, underground mines to price shipments of copper, or to assess shipping costs for other commodities such as steel and scrap metal. He spent another 18 years with the railroad as an operator, dispatching railroad crews and planning logistics for picking them up, getting them to the train, and off the train to crew rest sites. Terry has six children, 18 grandchildren, and a newly born great-grandson who are spread from South Dakota to Ft. Campbell, Ky., where a son is an Army second lieutenant, to two daughters and a son who live in or near Council Bluffs, Iowa, where Terry is from. Another son lives 15 miles from Greenfield Village in Queen Creek, Arizona, so Terry and Mary Anne get to attend weekend soccer and volleyball games to watch the grandchildren. Terry and Mary Anne also enjoy walking together, biking around the park, and occasional movies. Due to a severe hamstring injury that sidelined his tennis for weeks, Terry rides a stationary bicycle for 15 minutes and stretches before every tennis match. Terry, whose style of tennis is aggressive, hitting strongly with a good stroke, straight, hard, well-placed balls that are often game and match winners, has lost 45 pounds playing this sport the past three years. It s fun trying to make the shots and do the stuff I did 50 years ago when I was on the high-school tennis team, he said

Arriving Patio Pool Side were some REALLY SPOOKY, and limey characters that appeared and/or drifted through, but they were there for a good time, good food and lots of spirited laughs. This annual kick-off of the New Tennis Club Season at Greenfield is what we tennis players look forward to each Halloween. Many, many thanks to our beguiling hosts Dale & Janet Snell and Gary & Barb Cook for herding all us cats up for the CPR/First Responder Refresher Class was conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 8th, 2017, in the Card Room by Alan Haynie who works for Banner Health. He also presented this program last season at the Pickle Ball courts and was very well received. Alan didn t disappoint, providing up-to-date skill methods, demonstrated the various emergency life saving equipment/instruments and techniques for saving lives. Information and maps identifying locations of equipment were distributed to attendees. The Tennis Club has plans for Alan to do a repeat Refresher Class in early spring. Jim L. will check for available room and time and will coordinate with Alan. GV Hi Highlights November 2017 Vol. 1 Issue 2 Page 6 F.Y.I.: TV Monitor at the Courthouse Audrey Davies: Missing your smiling face in the resort. We look forward to seeing you all tuned up and ready for the New Year. Virginia Henry: Ouch! That was some tumble you took keep that ankle iced and elevated. You re needed back on the courts as soon as it heals, BUT NOT BEFORE! Jim Merck: We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your brother-in-law. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Mollie and your sister s family. Jim & Ellen Lane: We re holding you and your family close in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time after your brother-in-law s passing. Hazen Clarkson: So good to hear your back surgery went well and you are improving daily. We look forward to seeing both you and Laura s smiling faces in-park come the New Year. ATTENTION BELOW! Time Change: Early Round Robin Occasionally, not often, the listing of who is playing on what courts is off at the TV attached to our courthouse. This is usually due to a Windows Update of some sort, but lately I am thinking heat is a factor when that small streaming notebook computer is in a small box without holes. I have seen some messages when the computer shuts down and comes back up to that extent. If this happens, simply check your phones for where courts are booked, or look at the computer we have in the shed next to Court 1. That computer seems to be more reliable. To address the issue, I will get a cooling fan and bore a coupla holes in the box to see if that will cut down the number of reboots. But we still have periodic Windows updates, and while I check the computer and TV usually once in the morning, and Don Henry and I check it during the day, it still may be off. So please then check the computer in the shed or your cell phones. Bear with us, cooler weather is inbound, and that should minimize this problem.
