The Scots have won the last 16 meetings, and Lawrence s last wins came courtesy of a season sweep during the 2006-07 campaign. LAST GAME A big second quarter Monday pushed Knox to a 75-57 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence at Alexander Gymnasium. Knox outscored the Vikings 19-2 over the final 7:32 of the second quarter to turn around a close game. The Prairie Fire led 42-24 at the half. Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Knox had a balanced attack with three players in double figures and six players with at least nine points. Aubrey Scott led three Lawrence players in double figures with 12 points, and she added six rebounds. Leah Reeves added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings, and
Olivia Hoesley had 10 points and nine rebounds. Shonell Benjamin grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Vikings. The Vikings trailed 23-17 after the opening period, but Reeves got a layup and Scott buried a 3-pointer to cut Knox s lead to 23-22 with 8:14 left in the second quarter. Knox then hit four 3-pointers, sandwiched around a layup, to pull out to a 37-24 edge. The Vikings opened the second half with a 3-pointer from Nicole Cummins and Hoesley jumper to cut the lead to 42-29. Knox immediately stretched the lead back to 47-29, but the Vikings scored six straight points, capped by Lauren Deveikis jumper, to cut the margin to 47-35. Knox then put the Vikings away by scoring the final 10 points of the third quarter with Karlie Thorn s 3-pointer giving the Prairie Fire a 57-35 lead after three. Lawrence didn t get closer than 18 points in the fourth quarter. VIKINGS UPDATE }Sophomore forward Leah Reeves (Lisle, Ill./ Lisle) has really turned up her offensive game in the last four games. Reeves is averaging 15.3 points while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor. Reeves also is averaging 6.0 rebounds during that stretch. Reeves poured in a career-high 24 points vs. Widener back on Dec. 17 and has three doublefigure scoring games in her last four contests. Reeves is now Leah Reeves leading the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game and is second at 5.9 rebounds per contest. }While the Vikings have struggled on the glass as a team, freshman guard Shonell Benjamin (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Latin School) has been Lawrence s top rebounder. Benjamin has three double-figure rebounding games this season, including a game-high 10 just a few days ago Shonell Benjamin against Knox. Benjamin also is averaging 3.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. }Junior guard Olivia Hoesley (Eau Claire, Wis./North) nearly Olivia Hoesley had her first career double-double against Knox. Hoesley scored 10 points and pulled down a career-best nine rebounds against the Prairie Fire. Hoesley, who had never had more than five rebounds in a game entering this season, is now averaging 4.9 rebounds per game to go with 8.5 points per contest. }Senior guard Aubrey Scott (Appleton, Wis./East) has started to heat up from beyond the arc in the last few games. Scott is 7-for- 15 (46.7 percent) Aubrey Scott from 3-point range over her last three contests. Scott has made a team-high 11 3-pointers and is the team s top 3-point shooter at 33.3 percent (11-33). Scott is now averaging 7.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. }Junior guard Nicole Cummins (San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall) picked up three more assists against Knox to push her season total to a team-best 29. SCOUTING MONMOUTH }Monmouth has dropped four in a row, and the Scots face visiting Lake Forest in a Midwest Conference game on Wednesday before hosting the Vikings on Saturday. }Monmouth s lone victory on the season is a 65-60 win over visiting Beloit on Dec. 3. }It s a new era for Monmouth with rookie head coach Kyle Wilson. He was an assistant coach at a pair of NCAA Division III schools before taking over at Monmouth. Wilson is a 2005 graduate of Hanover. }Rookie guard Rebecca Gallis is leading the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game while shooting 35.2 percent from the floor.
