CELEBRATING 17 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA North Jersey Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2010 President s Message Dear Members, By now, probably, most of you have gone out on the links at least once, or if not, at least to the practice range. Hooray for the spring and the sunshine! A foursome consisting of Gus Eggerling, Tony Perino, Sandy Fink and myself, traveled to Skyview in Sparta for a Bargain Round on Masters weekend Saturday. For $25.00, we got twilight round of 18 holes, cart and a late lunch at the halfway house. What a great day and what a beautiful course! Best of the day Gus achieved a special birdie on their signature Hole #4 The Edge by scoring an eagle! The round mentioned above is one of the extra perks of being a member of our group. With copies of the roster sent out every month, we all have access to each other s contact information. There is nothing stopping any member from making up his/her own foursome (or twosome) to go out and play at any time. Organized outings are really fun, but you can always play golf on your own. Our first actual outing at Rolling Greens on April 17 was filled with fun and frozen bodies. Like the alliteration? We were stuck with the colder of the weekend days, but we muddled through, many stopping at the turn for a cup of soup (although hot toddies were preferable to some). Your fearless and freezing President was shocked to win closest to the pin on Hole #9, and that was because I was the ONLY one who made the green at all so, we won t discuss how far from the pin my ball actually was! I cannot complete my message without thanking Ruth and Grace for finding the newest meeting location, the Paris Inn. It was really lovely, the food was great, and I am sure our members who were present are in agreement with me. As always, I encourage each and every member to become an active participant run an outing, suggest a venue for a social event, mingle or other activity, come to the meetings and, of course, bring a friend! ~Flo Weiner, President Social Dear Members, We had an excellent turnout at our last dinner meeting 31 members. Let s keep up the good attendance. Yours truly won the 50/50 (thank you all!), we had our usual putting contest, and everyone had a good time. Keep up the good attendance, and don t forget to bring a friend! ~Ruth Elk/Grace Zucaro Social Co-Chairs Social Events Hi Members, April was a quiet month for social activities- with the "storm" and the holidays- While not using that as an excuse I must say that a small group of hardy souls ventured out informally in the "storm" to attend a gallery opening and Brazilian music concert- from that outing we garnered a new member, Joan. On another Saturday night with much better weather 8 members went to the Barn Theater to see a productions of Epic Proportions with dinner at a local restaurant in Montville. The play had us all laughing, which we needed after the "storm". Now that golf is back in full swing we are looking into possibly attending some of the free concerts in the area, maybe a walking tour in NYC of one of the neighborhoods, a repeat of mini golf in Lambertville and more. As always stay tuned. ~Geri Powder, Social Events Chair Golf Hi Members, The NJ-ASGA golf season officially began on Saturday, April 17th at Rolling Greens GC in Newton, NJ. 19 golfers were very glad the season was starting, but were very unhappy about the very chilly weather conditions. For some of us, ski apparel was a far better choice to wear than normal golf apparel. Along with all the normal pre-outing announcements, the group was happy to congratulate Tony Perino on his "hole-in-one" at Darlington GC in Mahwah while playing with his son during the week. We braved the weather conditions and ended up at Sheridan's Lodge in Newton for dinner. It was nice and cozy there where outing prizes were awarded to Joe Cifune and Flo Wiener for closest-to-the-pin; and long drive honors went to for the women and Tony Perino for the men. The outings for May and June have sold out with the exception of a new weekday outing that has been added. It will take place on Tuesday, June 29th at Berkshire Valley GC in Jefferson Township, NJ. Details are located in the golf schedule section of the newsletter, as well as on the website. Once again take a look at your calendars and sign up early so you do not end up on the "wait list" instead of the official outing list. Upcoming events are Saturday, July 10th at Winding Hills GC in Montgomery, NY, Tuesday, July 13th at Knoll West GC in Parsippany, NJ, and Saturday, August 7th at Hudson Valley Golf Resort in Kerhonkson, NY. We are having 2 overnight trips that are still available. They are Saturday, August 21/Sunday, August 22 at The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in Shawnee on Delaware PA, and Saturday, September 25th/Sunday, September 26th at The Renault Winery Resort and Golf in Egg Harbor City, NJ. We will publish more details on those outings as they become available. Thanks again to the members who have stepped up and volunteered to organize and run an outing this year. It has certainly made our outing schedule diverse and one to be proud of by our Chapter. We will, of course, still accept anyone's ideas and suggestions for possible future outing sites to be added to the schedule. We are looking forward to warmer days ahead so when you get out there to play "Hit-em-Long" and " Hit-em- Straight"! Don t Let Your Membership Lapse... Be sure to renew so you won t miss receiving a newsletter. Call 1-888-GOLFMATE

"The Golf Etiquette Corner" Following some of these simple guidelines can make golfing more enjoyable for you and all who are on the golf course with you! 1. When FINISHING A HOLE, the golfer who is furthest away from the pin should play 1st even if all 4 golfers in the group are NOT on the green. (ex. if a golfer who is on the green is further away from 1 who is on the fringe, the golfer on the green should putt 1st then continue that pattern). 2. PLAY THROUGH ETIQUETTE - If your 4-some has lost sight of the group in front of you, and your group is making the 4-some behind you wait on every hole; it is good golf etiquette to let the 4-some behind you "play through". ~Bert Herman/, Golf Co-Chairs Membership Dear Members, Spring is blooming and so is our chapter! Last month our chapter was blessed with new and enthusiastic members. Spring is a great time to encourage friends and colleagues to join. To help us grow our chapter we will have ASGA brochures available at our meetings for you to distribute to local golf courses and golf shops. The more people that help us distribute this information the easier it is to get the word out about our organization. Our featured member this month, Craig Marra, found out about us from one of our yellow tear off sheets. In addition to Craig, we also want to welcome Matt Fermaglich and Karen Waldron to our chapter. We are so thrilled you all joined! We would like to introduce Craig Marra to our membership. Craig lives in Waldwick and has been a mechanic for the borough of Paramus for 26 years. He usually plays golf on Saturdays when he is not working. He has already signed up for two of our outings. Interestingly, Craig was a fisherman who gave up the sport and took up golf instead. In addition to his recent interest in golf he enjoys gardening and biking. Craig would like to find a biking partner so contact him if you are interested! We know you will enjoy getting to know Craig and welcome him to the chapter. If you know of anyone who would like to join our organization please encourage him or her to attend a Single Mingle or dinner meeting. We would love to meet them and tell them all about our chapter. Or, they can join by going to our national website: www.singlesgolf.com. Good health, fun, and friendship to all! ~Gus Eggerling / Jane Kalfus, Membership Co-Chairs ABOUT OUR MEMBERS Happy Birthday to these members: Corinne Cullison - 05/31 Ruth Elk - 05/08 Ben Ellison - 06/13 Joan Groome - 05/25 Barbara Potash - 06/12 Rocco Sinisi - 05/22 Madeleine Thier - 05/22 Flo Wiener - 05/25 These members are up for renewal: (date shown is last day of membership) Madeline Edwards - 05/31/2010 Bill Fanaras - 05/31/2010 Sandy Fink - 05/31/2010 Roberta Hermann - 05/31/2010 Debbie Jordan - 05/31/2010 Garry Koop - 05/31/2010 Ed Lemanski - 05/31/2010 Charles Liggio - 05/31/2010 Elizabeth Mark - 05/31/2010 Camille McEntee - 05/31/2010 Patricia Nuetzman - 05/31/2010 Barbara Potash - 05/31/2010 Anna Ramsey - 05/31/2010 Elaine Schulman - 05/31/2010 Flo Wiener - 05/31/2010 Grace Zucaro - 05/31/2010 Welcome newest members: Michael Caliente - Joined 03/18/2010 Matt Fermaglich - Joined 03/31/2010 Joan Groome - Joined 03/24/2010 Craig Marra - Joined 04/05/2010 Barbara Vena - Joined 03/18/2010 Karen Waldron - Joined 03/11/2010 These members recently renewed: Robert Jensen Chuck Kreysig Debbie Putzer These members did not renew their dues: (date shown is date membership expired) Nancy Block - 03/31/2010 Lynne Hummel - 03/31/2010 Robert Megaro - 03/31/2010 Our chapter currently has 79 members

CELEBRATING 17YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION MAY, 2010 Event Dates: Thursday, May 27 Sunday, May 30, 2010 With great excitement and anticipation, we re happy to announce our continued association with the fine folks at Pinehurst Resort in announcing our Reunion in Pinehurst again. The Reunion on Memorial Day Weekend has shown to be ASGA s largest-attended event each year with attendance soaring over 400 in years past. It s a great time to see old friends and meet friends you never thought you had. Dates set for this year are May 27-30. Prices have been lowered $23 on the standard package price and $140 on the room by myself package price, as compared to 2008 pricing. As such, we anticipate a quick sell-out. Pinehurst was the site of our Memorial Day weekend reunion in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Packages start at $489 per person, based on double occupancy and $639 per person based on single occupancy. If you priced this event on its own, you d easily pay $1200-$1300 (dbl. occ.) for all that s included. Optional rounds on the day-of-arrival (Thursday on No. 3) as well as day-of-departure (Sunday at Tobacco Road Golf Club Rated #4 Public Course in the U. S. by Golf World magazine and a Top 100 Golf Digest) are being offered as well. A registration form is enclosed with this newsletter and you can also obtain one at www.singlesgolf.com/pinehurst The standard package is a great deal. If you priced this on your own, you d easily pay twice as much as what you get as an ASGA member. You can t fine a value like this at any great golf resort in the country. Of course, outside of everything Pinehurst has to offer, you get to meet hundreds of singles from various ASGA chapters. As with all ASGA multi-chapter events, you must be a member to attend. To join ASGA, simply go to www.singlesgolf.com/join Included in the Standard Package: 4 days / 3 nights, based on double occupancy 2 rounds of golf, cart, range balls, prizes for winners and welcoming gift for all 6 food functions: cocktail party (heavy hors d oeurves and 2 free drink tickets if you register by April 18), picnic-style cookout Friday after golf, Saturday sit-down dinner and 3 lavish buffet breakfasts in the main dining room Dancing with our DJ on 1st and 3rd nights (does he dance?) All resort service fees and taxes. The resort service fee pays for bicycle rental, practice green, afternoon tea, on-site transportation, fitness center, tennis courts, outdoor pools, etc. In addition, Pinehurst is offering ASGA members a coupon good towards a 20% discount on spa services or one round of golf club rentals. See SinglesGolf.com/Pinehurst for details on this coupon. Room-by-Yourself packages and non-golf packages are available. Non-hotel packages are available only to our Pinehurst chapter members. U. S. Open Returns to Pinehurst in 2014 For the first time in Open history, one venue is the site of both the men s U. S. Open Championship and the women s U. S. Open Championship in the same year. Both championships will be hosted by Pinehurst in 2014. Pinehurst was also the site of the 1951 Ryder Cup as well as the 1999 and 2005 U. S. Opens. We re proud to see the American Singles Golf Association host their event at Pinehurst again this year, said Sara Green, sales manager at Pinehurst. The showing ASGA had in years past is a testament to the match we have with our resort and your members. Pinehurst has a tradition that goes way back into the last century. All of the greats have played there. The No. 2 course will not be part of our standard package, but hopefully, you ll have an opportunity to play it at a reduced rate due to the anticipated aerification schedule. See website for details. Please review the Pinehurst.com website and check out their hotel accommodations. They re offering the Carolina Inn, the Holly Inn, Manor Inn and their condos again. In addition to these hotels, if your chapter (or group of friends) would like to get eight (8) of your members together and get a villa, which has a common living room and kitchen facility, review the Pinehurst.com website and indicate such on your registration form. - - Tom Alsop, President/Founder, ASGA Phone 704-889-4600 or 1-888-GOLFMATE GolfASGA@aol.com
