Hove Junior School Newsletter 20, 9th March 2016 Message from Mrs Southern Dear Parents and Carers, It was our World Book Day last week - the children looked amazing and had a wonderful time! The staff also went to great lengths to dress as their favourite characters - thank you for supporting this. Years 5 & 6 at Portland Road were treated to a visit by a local author, M.G.Leonard. Many of the children bought her latest book, Beetle Boy. Enjoy reading! Thank you also for supporting parents evening last week. An online survey has been sent to you all for feedback so we can continue to improve communication throughout the year. A reminder that from the summer term we are asking all children to wear black shoes, trainers or boots as part of a change to our uniform policy. A text will be sent to you to remind you of the correct uniform. Thank you for your continued support Many thanks, Maddie Southern Headteacher

Well done to everyone who took part in the Brighton Half Marathon 28.2.16! The runners were amazing and the atmosphere was fabulous. Four members of staff ran the half marathon this year. Mrs Murdock, Mr Jamieson, Miss Leedham and Miss Skelton all ran the marathon in excellent times and raised a vast amount of money for their charities. We are extremely proud of them! Youth Race Frankie in 3S & Harriet 4E entered the Youth race and achieved a fantastic finishing time for their one mile run! It was a great fun event with all the other half-marathon runners there too. Both girls have a lovely medal to celebrate finishing the race. Well done! Sports Relief - Fri 18 March Children to come into school dressed in their PE Kits (tracksuits) 1.00 donation please

BACA's Primary School Cricket Artwork Competition Pupils across Brighton and Hove are invited to participate in this exciting artwork competition, aimed at creating a piece of art that will be used to decorate the new Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre and the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, which is due to be completed in the summer. The centre will offer training and playing facilities, promoting sporting excellence and enabling local pupils to develop cricketing talent and fitness. To enter the competition: Go to the office at either Portland Road or Holland Road to collect a template sheet Create a cricket themed design for the template sheet Hand it back to the office by Monday, 24th April 2016 BACA's art department and senior leader will select a winning entry from each school, as well as vote on the top three pieces overall.
