Osprey Quay, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1SA By Car From Dorchester Take A354 to Weymouth From Poole and Bournemouth Take A352, which then becomes A353 to Weymouth From Bridport Take B3157 to Weymouth When you arrive at Weymouth Take the A354 to Portland. This will bring you to the causeway linking Weymouth and Portland. Halfway along the causeway you will reach a mini-roundabout. Car parking. There is plenty of space in the free car park to the front of the sailing academy, please follow the signs for our event parking. Please leave plenty of space in front of your car so other cars can get by you Timings. 05:30 REGISTRATION OPENS 06:30 REGISTRATION CLOSES FOR BOTH EVENTS If you are late for any reason you will not be allowed to race and your chip/number may be re-allocated to someone else who is there. 06:45 SAFETY BRIEF FOR SHORT COURSE CLASSIC 07:00 RACE STARTS 07:45 SAFETY BRIEF FOR SPRINT 08:00 SPRINT RACE STARTS - this will start earlier if all of the SC Classic competitors have left the water in good time. Registration: Race registration will be in the race hanger, follow the Race HQ signs. Please DO NOT bring your bike to registration, leave this on/in your car, get the registration pack that has all of your numbers and chip in, sort out your bike, helmet and bag/box before trying to enter the hanger. If you bring your bike this will cause us delays in getting people inside and it will be in the way. All entrants names have been sorted into Race Distance and alphabetical order by surname. Race numbers have thus been assigned. All you need to do is tell the registration staff your name and what distance race sprint or classic, they will then issue you with: Race number to be worn on your back on the bike and front on the run, please use a race belt, if you don t have one they will be available to purchase at race HQ on the day 5. Bike sticker - Seat post.. Helmet sticker Front. Swim hat (to be worn in the swim!). Timing chip to be placed around your left ankle So once again just for clarity - you will need to register before you rack your bike, as you will need your security band to get into transition.
Transition area. To gain access and to rack your bike you must show the member of event staff A, your race and bike number B, security wrist band. To retrieve your bike at the end of the race you must produce the same as above. Racking is numbered and you must rack your bike on your number only. Run/bike in/out gates will all be clearly marked. Make sure you orientate yourself thoroughly with the transition layout and your bike location. Race briefing This will be held before swim start just outside the hanger, a swim brief will be given to you on the slipway. Before you attend the compulsory briefing please make sure your transition area is ready to go and that you are dressed and equipped for the swim. The race will start on completion of the briefing. The briefing will cover course rules and is mandatory. Swim. 750m or 1.5km sea swim (Wetsuits are compulsory). This will be a mass start from the slipway. Very large yellow/orange inflatable buoys mark the swim course. The exact lay out of the course is entirely weather and sea condition dependent. The swim course will be made very clear to you in the briefing and large map at registration. If the sea conditions will not permit any swimming then plan B is a run, bike, run. Bike. Approx. 20km Volunteers marshal the bike course. They will be located on all prominent junctions. The course is also signed with large arrows on a bright orange background. From 2019 all riders will do the same course - 1 loop around the Island. SPRINT & SC Classic https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28152262 One loop of the course, then back to transition. Bike rules.. Your helmet must be securely affixed to your head during the entire bike course. You are to carry sufficient water and food. You are to obey the high way code at all times. You are to follow instructions given by marshals NO OVERTAKING/NEUTRAL ZONE Due to some irresponsible behaviour at previous races we have introduced a no overtaking zone to the course this will be identified by signage along the route. The zone is on the downhill section of the course when you are coming back off the island and heading back to transition (as pictured) down New Road and High Street. We will have zone busters there with cameras, anyone seen to be in an overtaking manoeuvre, that s overtaking or undertaking either a car or bike then you will be reported to us back at transition where you will have just DQ d yourself and we will not permit you to carry on in the race this zone is a neutral zone and all racers must obey by this. Keep your eye out for these signs, disobey them and you will be DQ d no questions.
No drafting. Any reported incidents of drafting will be investigated and time penalties applied. There are no feed stations on the bike course. You are to mount and dismount your bike before the given line You are to ride within your limits. Your bike must be in a road worthy condition
Run Sprint - 5km or SC Classic 10km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28091945 The run is around the Osprey Quay area - this is a flat run, there will be 2 water stations on the loop. Sprint - You will complete 2 loops of the course before heading home Sc Classic - You will complete 4 loops of the course before heading home - it is down to you to count your loops.
The run will be a well marshalled route but only you and the timing mat will know if you ve done the correct distance. Finish. The finish line will be marked with Orange Finish arch. Timing. All timing will be done by full on sport for this event and results will be available on line within 24 hours. First aid. There will be medics on route and at transition, should you injure yourself on the course please let one of the marshals know. They will inform the meat wagon that will come to collect you plus any limbs that may have fallen off! Prize presentation Prizes will be awarded approx. 40 minutes after the completion of each event. There are age group awards and winners prizes. You will all receive some amazing bling for your efforts plus our awesome new soft feel t s to remind you of you of this event. Please feel free to bring some money with you to spend in the excellent café facilities at the academy after your race - we will also have the BustinSkin shop open with all of the usual goodies like goggles, elastic laces, t-shirts and hoodies. So if you have read this far then well done - all you really need to remember for any of our events is - Get here in plenty of time, we will start without you. Listen to what you are told in the race briefing. Don t be an arse when you re racing! Common sense wins, keep your eye out for the no overtaking zone.
