From the Membership Director Summer Time is Here! A few reminders to help everyone enjoy the Summer Time Fun around the resort: Lance Moyer Now that school is out and kids will be spending more time at the pool and around the Club, we are asking all members to please be vigilant about carrying your Vinoy Club Member Cards with you at all times and presenting them to Vinoy staff when charging to your account. It is strongly advised for you not to say your number out loud, but to instead present your card when asked for your member number. Also please make sure that you are always printing, signing and writing your correct account number on your ticket when you charge. If you do not have a Vinoy Club membership card, please stop by the Club Office to get your photo taken or you can e-mail us a photo you would like to use, and we can Lance mail the Moyer card to you! Membership ID cards are free of charge. All members ages 12 and above should have a membership card. If children do not have a membership ID card, they will not be allowed to access the club facilities or charge on the account. Please keep in mind that there should always be parental supervision for your children while they are here at The Vinoy. Dropping your kids off at The Vinoy for the day without supervision is not permitted. Unless the children are here for a scheduled Kid s Camp or sponsored event, you must be present with your children or have made arrangements for another club member adult to be here with them. Guests on your membership as you know are required to fill out a form which includes their contact information and a liability waiver. Forms will be available at the Pool, Health Club, Golf Course and Tennis Center. Fees will be charged accordingly to your account. Please remember that having a guest on your membership is a privilege and failure to register a guest will result in the loss of that special privilege. Members will also be required to sign this form at the time of check-in. Don t forget we have a summer filled with plenty to do for the kids around here including Golf Camp; Tennis Camp; Kid s Nights Out, Friday Night Movie Night at the resort s pool, etc. Feel free to ask any of our team members to provide you with more information or go online at www.vinoyclub.com Your cooperation is appreciated. Tennis Bulletin Board I would Like to welcome a new member to our staff Tennis Professional Kelvin Babista. Coached USTA kids at Countryside Country Club Works extensively with the USTA Initiative 10 and Under Tennis Competes in Open level tournaments & USTA leagues. Performance Level Rated Coach with PTR Four-year starter for Largo High School, ended career with a #1 team ranking Originally from Clearwater, FL Joined the Vinoy team in 2016 Seven year career in the United States Army Team Coordinator for USTA s Junior Team Tennis Teams at HCC Fitness Tips with Sheen: Tennis hydration A natural indicator of dehydration is when you become thirsty. Unfortunately, when that happens, dehydration has already started to occur. The smallest percentage of hydration loss will affect your performance on the tennis court. In summer conditions, fatigue and dehydration is no joke. You need to prepare before getting on the court by drinking plenty of fluid. During your match, continue to drink even if you re not thirsty. An easy way to gauge if you re hydrating enough on the days you play tennis is to weigh yourself before and after playing. The weight you lose during exercise is generally water weight so if you weigh less after you ve played, then that is a sign that you re not hydrated enough. Whatever you use to stay hydrated, never forget good old fashion H 20. Water is what your body wants, so make sure you are drinking plenty of water, along with any supplements or sports drinks. Fabiana tip: Kevin Babista It takes two to tango! When dancing well with a partner, we know we must be in sync, be fluid and not step on each other s toes! Only then can we move graciously and effortlessly across the dance floor. Well, playing doubles successfully includes the same attributes. When you imagine a fantastic doubles team, there is a vision of two people moving around each other with such confidence and assertion. Here are a couple of tips to help you and your partner achieve this together: Communicate, communicate, communicate! Whether your partner missed a shot and you tell them it s ok, right here or you need to discuss a new strategy on a change over, communication between the two players is a must Take your time on change overs to think about what is working and what is not. If your doing the same thing over and over but being burned by the same shot then try something else - perhaps a lob over the net player, perhaps you both move in together, perhaps eye formation. Taking your opponents out of their patterns and rhythm may be just what s needed to swing the march back in your favor Stay positive and never get down on your partner. If you focus on yourself and doing your best then naturally you can lift up your partner. Whatever the score is, in doubles especially, momentum can easily swing and you can always come back! But not with a negative attitude. Move with your partner. If she or he is pulled wide then don t leave a huge gap to your side. You can move over so you re in the middle of the remaining court. This way you will have a much better chance of staying in the point. So, while working with your partner with strong communication, taking your time to think, staying positive and being aware of your positioning you AND your partner can tango together to achieve victories in doubles. And most importantly, please have some fun in the process!! If you are looking for a game, give us a call at 727-824-8026. HIGH LINES After heavy rains often the complaint is the lines are HIGH. Well, actually what happens is that the lines cause the rain to splash off both sides of the line; which in turn pushes the clay away often on both sides. This can then make the lines appear high, but actually there is no material next to the line which certainly can be a cause for bad bounces or worse, someone tripping. After the rain it is not just about the water being off the court and/or the lines being too high, but the algae that may be present, especially in the more NON active areas. The algae is not always visible but can be extremely slippery. Please bear with us as we try and prepare the courts. Sometimes they may appear playable but truly are not. We strive for every experience on our courts to be a good one, win or lose! 11
