Media Information Media Information There are many opportunities for members of the media to feature the University of Missouri men s and women s track and field teams. Here are a few helpful hints. The Media Guide The 2005 Missouri track and field guide is designed to assist the media in its coverage of the University of Missouri track and field program. It is also meant to provide prospective student-athletes with information regarding all aspects of the University of Missouri and its athletic department. Media Relations The Media Relations offices are located on the concourse level of the Hearnes Center in room 260, note the change from room 330. Easiest access is available through the west side of the center. Media Services For the media, supplemental information, statistics and photographs are available by contacting Tom Lewis in the Media Relations Office weekdays at 573-884-8519 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., central standard time. Lewis can optimally be reached by e-mail at tvlewis@mizzou.edu. Any media requests should be made through the Missouri Media Relations Office, including athlete updates, photograph inquiries, historical background and interview requests. David Lile Public Address Announcer KFRU Radio Updated information and statistics for the Missouri men s and women s track and field teams are available on-line at mutigers.com. Also included are links to recent news and notes, team statistics, and historical data along with links to data from other meets and other schools and links to organizations in which Missouri is affiliated. Meet results will be faxed out following each competition. Results and a brief summary of the meet s action will also be faxed and e-mailed upon request. Please e-mail or phone SID Tom Lewis to get on the mailing list. Athlete Interviews Interviews with any of the track and field athletes must be arranged through Tom Lewis. ATHLETES ARE NOT TO BE CON- TACTED AT THEIR HOMES WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF TOM LEWIS OR HEAD COACH RICK MCGUIRE. For phone interviews, contact the Media Relations Office. Arrangements can be made to contact athletes either before or following practice. Please request athletes at least 24 hours in advance. McGuire Interviews All interviews with head coach Rick McGuire can be done by calling his office phone on weekdays by appointment or by contacting SID Tom Lewis. McGuire will also be available following competition after a brief post-meet wrap-up with his teams. Please see Tom Lewis following the meet with the names of any athletes in which an interview is requested. On the Web The easiest and most complete way to obtain information on Missouri Athletics is through the department s Internet website. Each of Missouri s 20 varsity sports are featured on the website, including information such as schedules, results, press releases, weekly releases and biographical information on both the coaches and the athletes. Also on the Website is the MU Athletic Department Ticket Office information. Credential Requests Most of the Tigers home events are noncredentialed; however, for championship meets in which Missouri is the host, all requests for press, photo, and parking must be made in writing on appropriate letterhead and must be presented to the Media Relations Office at least 48 hours prior to the meet. Photo Policy Photographers who which to take pictures during the meet must contact SID Tom Lewis sometime prior to shooting at the meet, preferably in person at the meet. Different guidelines must be followed for shooting at the Hearnes Fieldhouse and at Walton Track Stadium and photographers should know those ground rules before shooting. Failure to abide by rules set by Missouri Track & Field or lack of cooperation with officials of the meet are not tolerated and will lead to ejection from facilities. David Lile will once again be the Public Address Announcer at many of the Tigers meets for the 2005 season. Lile, the host of KFRU 1400 AM s morning show, is a highly nationally-respected track and field announcer. Lile has announced at both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 Championships and is perennial announcer of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships. Lile grew up in Macon, Mo., and began his career at KFRU as a copywriter in 1990. He is also the voice of Mizzou women s basketball and Rock Bridge High School football. 211

Improved performance will yield additional points as noted in the chart to right. Points are approximate, as there is a variation at different levels. For example, in the men s 100, the difference between 10.40 and 10.50 is 24 points, between 11.40 and 11.50 is 21 points, and between 12.40 and 12.50 is 18 points. The points to the right are an average for national-class performers. If there is a tie in one of the combined events, the higher place goes to the competitor who has outscored the other in a majority of events. If a tie remains, it goes to the person who has scored the highest number of points in a single event.
