3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION HAZARDS TO MAN The preparation's aqueous solutions are alcaline and irritating to digestive mucosa, eyes and healthy skin. The preparation may cause sensitization by inhalation. Inhalation (Dusts) Moderately irritating to nose, eyes and throat. Cough fits. Risk for ulcers and nasal septum perforation in case of repeated or prolonged exposition. Risk for bronchitis. Eye contact(dusts) Mechanical irritation due to product particles. (Concentrated solution) Intense irritation, lacrimation, red eyes, swollen eyelids. Risk for eye lesions Risk for serious sequelae if the ph is > 12. Skin contact (Dusts) In case of contact with moist skin: red, irritated skin. (Liquid and concentrated solutions) red, irritated skin. In case of repeated or prolonged contact: skin dryness, fissures and small ulcers. Risk for dermatitis. Ingestion (Concentrated solution) Intense irritation of the mouth, throat, strong burning pain sensation in the mouth, oesofhagus and stomach; nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps. Risk for oedema of the throat with a sense of suffocation. Risk for choc (paleness of the face, tendency toward syncope, weak and irregular pulse). 3

4. FIRST AID INTERVENTION 4.1 INHALATION Take the victim away from the dust contaminated danger area, have him/her blow the nose, move him/her to an extended position with the bust elevated and to a tranquil, cool and well-ventilated place. In any case, immediately take the victim to an emergency facility. 4.2 SKIN CONTACT (Liquid and concentrated solutions, dust) Remove clothing. Wash skin with lukewarm running water, under the shower if necessary. Avoid treating with neutralising chemical substances. In case of powder substance, brush skin before rinsing. Be particularly careful not to damage the patient's skin. Call the poison control center or emergency facility. Immediately take the patient to an emergency facility. 4.3 EYE CONTACT (Liquid and concentrated solutions, dust) In case of splashes of concentrated solution into the eyes, immediately flush them with running water for 15' by keeping eyelids wide apart, so as to remove the product. Keep eyes protected from the light. In any case, immediately take the victim to an emergency facility. 4.4 INGESTION If the victim is conscious, administer a solution of water and vinegar (30%), have him/her rinse the mouth with cool water and have him/her gargle. Have him/her sit. Do not induce vomiting. Have him/her drink plenty of water. Keep victim from getting cold (cover him/her). In any case, immediately take the victim to an emergency facility. 4

5. FIRE MEASURES In case of fire occurring in the vicinity, use water to cool containers. The following extinguishing media can be used: Dry powder extinguishers Prevent the product from getting warm. Decomposition causes emission of CO 2 (carbon dioxide chocking gas). The staff in charge with emergency intervention must wear individual protection devices: a Breathing protection systems, insulating-type; it is allowed to use open-cycle or closed-cycle autoprotection system (see paragraph 8.2.1.1) b c d Full-face mask with P2 filter Nomex III EN 531 jacket, II category Helmet with external cap, made of self-extinguishing material 5

6. MEASURES TO TAKE IN CASE OF ACCIDENTAL DISPERSION In the case of leaks due to container breaking or during decanting, collect the solid product and subsequently wash with plenty of water, by taking care to wear individual body and breathing protection systems while also avoiding skin and eye contact. In the case of leaks in closed rooms, ventilate the room after removing the product, so as to avoid dust dispersion in the environment. In any case, observe the protection regulations indicated at section 8. 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE 7.1 Handling While handling the preparation, use appropriate equipment and avoid dust dispersion into the air. More in detail, use equipment made of a plastic, smooth and easy-to-wash material. Avoid dust contact and inhalation. Do not eat, drink and smoke while using the preparation. Avoid using equipment (containers, sample-taking equipment etc.) that may be eiher dirty or contaminated by other substances. Avoid contact of substance with incompatible substances. Also see chapter 10 Stability and reactivity. 7.2 Storage The preparation must be stored into its original containers, which must be closed and sealed. While storing, position the containers so as to make the label easy to read. The containers must be placed on suitable pallets and into dry, appropriately ventilated environments. Absolutely avoid storage with acid type products. 6

8 PERSONAL PROTECTION/EXPOSURE CONTROL 8.1 Exposure limit values Exposure limit values are not applicable for the preparation. TLV/TWA is applicable (PNOC:Particulates Not Otherwise Classified) TLV/TWA 10 mg/m 3 TLV CEILING TLV STEL N.A. N.A. ACGIH THRESHOLD LIMIT VALUES 8.2 Exposure control For technical protection measures concerning exposure limits, also see champter 7 "Handling and storage" 8.2.1 Personnel exposure control As regards the use of the preparation, employers must adopt all of the following measures and actions to reduce the risk to the exposed personnel. Storage must be performed in accordance with what stated at chapter 7 Handling and storage. Storage conditions must be in compliance with the safety criteria stated for the storage of hazardous substances and preparations, as to the presence of incompatible substances and hygiene and storage-health as well (appropriate ventilation, isolation from humidity, smooth and washable floor covering, wall paint finish, presence of washing sewage traps in the floor. Suitable measures for storage, handling and safe transport of containers must be provided. Specific procedures concerning the risks related to handling of preparation must be provided. These must be observed during sample-taking and mixing with water (dust release into the air), as well as during aerosol dispersion while spreading preparation with pressure equipment. 7

Contact with the product is possible in the case of free handling. Therefore, breathing, skin and eye protection devices must be used. 8.2.1.1 Breathing protection The type of breathing protection is as follows: Half- or full-face mask, complete with P2 dust filter. Available oxygen shall never be lower than 19,5%. Should oxygen be lower than this, it is not possible to use filter respirators. Insulating-type systems (self-contained respirators) must be used instead. 8.2.1.2 Hand protection The type of hand protection is as follows: PVC gloves. 8.2.1.3 Eye protection The type of eye protection is as follows: Protective spectacles 8.2.1.4 Skin protection The type of skin protection is as follows: Tyvek suit 8.2.1.5 Head and hair protection The type of head protection is as follows: Tyvek cap 8.2.2 Environment exposure control This preparation cannot be introduced into phreatic waters, rivers and sewer networks. 8
