Coastguard Northern Region Maritime School Recreational Boating Courses Coastguard is a charity - we can t save lives without public support. Coastguard maintains an infrastructure right around the coast of New Zealand to ensure that we are there when the New Zealand public need us. n the Northern Region we cover from Thames, across to Kawhia and up both coasts to the Far North. Our infrastructure consists of strategically located rescue vessels and comprehensive marine VHF coverage, all operated by highly trained volunteers. The Coastguard Northern Region Maritime School gives all boaties the skills needed to enjoy the water safely. Our tutors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience by providing both practical RYA Courses and theorybased Coastguard Boating Education Courses. We can equip you with the skills and knowledge to be safe out on the water. Saving lives at sea begins on land. Be prepared and get educated! RYA Practical Courses RYA courses allow you to gain practical boating skills and experience. The courses are conducted on our training boats or can be on your own vessel. There is a maximum of 3 people per instructor to ensure you get to most out of the courses. Listed prices are for Auckland. Outside Auckland POA. Powerboating (Trailer Boat) For those using small powered vessels and also for the professional small boat skipper required to prove their competence or provide certification for work. Level 1 (1 day) A one day course that is ideal for people completely new to boating. t gives you a general introduction and confidence with safe boat handling. (Minimum age 8 years). Course Fee (per person): $330.00. Please contact us to discuss Level 2 (2 day) A comprehensive course covering all practical skills and background knowledge enabling you to be a capable powerboat driver. This course is ideal for beginners wanting to take the next step in becoming a proficient powerboat driver, or for those who wish to fine-tune or refresh their current skills. (Minimum age 12 years). You may need to hold a qualification to comply with local laws or charter companies requirements. We strongly advise you carefully research what you will need well in advance of departure. CCs are awarded following a short practical and knowledge assessment appropriate to the type of CC you require (power or sail). Coastguard Maritime School is accredited to issue the CC (nternational Certificate of Competence) for power vessels as well the CEVN endorsement for inland waterways. Motor Cruising (Launch/Yacht) Courses for those who have launches or larger boats, as there is no fixed dividing line between powerboats or motor cruisers these courses are generally aimed at those who have inboard powered vessels and accommodation on board. Essential for new boat owners, first timers or more experienced skippers. How far you go is up to you. RYA Motor Cruiser Helmsman (2 days) This course provides you with an essential introduction to practical boat handling and safety considerations for a launch in sheltered waters. t is a two day course with a minimum age of 15 years. RYA Motor Cruiser Skipper (4 days) Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to take charge on short passages in familiar waters. t is a four day course with a minimum age of 16 years. RYA Motor Cruiser Coastal Skipper (5 days) This is for the more ambitious skipper, as it improves skills and knwoledge to take more complex passages. t is a five day course with a minimum age of 17 years. The objective is to help delegates to stay safe and get more involved in their boating activities. t is a highly interactive evening with three female tutors running small groups of through punchy theory and practical sessions. Student Enrolment, Fees and Payment All students/course attendees must be enrolled with Coastguard Northern Region (CNR) prior to the start of the course. Enrolment fees/course fees are as per the current CNR fee schedule, and are subject to change without notice. New member discounts are only applicable for courses run by Coastguard Northern Region unless otherwise agreed and cannot be used in conjunction with any other special offer or discount. To be eligible the student must be a current member of Coastguard Northern Region nc. Fees are payable at the time of enrolment, at least five days prior to the commencement of the course. 2. Cancellations, withdrawals and refunds Coastguard Northern Region (CNR) reserves the right to reschedule, postpone and/or cancel courses without prior notice, although all efforts are made, and all alternatives exhausted to avoid this. All tutored courses require a minimum of six attendees (unless otherwise specified). f enrolments fail to reach the minimum number of attendees five days prior to the start of the course, CNR will contact all enrolled students and offer the following alternatives: To transfer to any other course of the student s choice, including distance learning courses (with applicable part-refund or payment due). The offer of one-on-one tuition (if available and extra fees may apply). A full refund. f a student withdraws after enrolment: f a cancellation is received by CNR more than two weeks prior to the commencement of a course, all fees, less 10% and the online booking charge if applicable, will be refunded. f a cancellation is received by CNR less than two weeks but more than five days prior to the commencement of a course, all fees, less 20% and the online booking charge if applicable, will be refunded. f a cancellation is received less than five days prior to the commencement of a course, all fees, less 50% and the online booking charge if applicable, will be refunded. f a student withdraws after the commencement of a course, no fees will be refunded (except in exceptional circumstances). f a student elects to transfer to another course: f a request to transfer is received by CNR more than two weeks prior to the commencement of a course, a 10% (of the course fee) administration fee applies. f a request to transfer is received by CNR less than two weeks but more than five days prior to the commencement of a course, a 20% (of the course fee) administration fee applies. f a request to transfer is received less than five days prior to the commencement of a course, all fees, less 50% and the online booking charge if applicable, will be refunded. A request to transfer is not normally possible after the commencement of a course. CNR through Coastguard Boating Education has an NZQA-approved student fee protection mechanism in place to protect all fees received from all enrolled students.
