Dear friends and business partners: James City County will be hosting the Virginia Recreation and Park Society s (VRPS) 59th Annual Conference, September 7 10, 2013, at the Williamsburg Hotel and Conference Center, formerly the Williamsburg Marriott. The VRPS Conference is the largest annual gathering of parks and recreation professionals in the state. In 2007, when the conference was last held in James City County, over 800 delegates attended. With the economy slowly improving and local agencies starting to recover from declining budgets, we anticipate greater participation and increased buying power this year. The planning committee is already hard at work preparing the Exhibit Hall and planning the educational and social opportunities for delegates and our business partners. We re also planning a golf outing on Saturday at the Williamsburg National Golf Course for members, business associates and guests. The first settlers in Williamsburg s Historic Triangle found great beauty and faced noble challenges in nearby Jamestown and Yorktown. At the award-winning Williamsburg National Golf Course, these two historic sites are recognized through the Jack Nicklaus designed Jamestown Course and the Tom Clark designed Yorktown Course. The Jamestown course is a 4-star Golf Digest winner built with an emphasis on conditioning; it s been said that it s so well designed that it could improve your score! According to Tom Clark, the Yorktown course is of traditional design and has no gimmicks. Each course offers outstanding amenities for those who love to golf. We ll provide our business partners with several opportunities to network with managers and directors at the golf tournament, in the Exhibit Hall and during three social events. We ll showcase Go Ape, a treetop adventure course in our Freedom Park during the Sunday night social.
