Thimmayya Gandhi Mrs. Sonia Gupta (Bela Gupta) From the President s Desk Dear Members, GREETINGS TO YOU ALL!!! It is indeed a hard task to describe passage of TIME. For some, 'time' seems stands till while for others it flies. It has already been two months since the new team took charge and did their best in with some twists and turns. Every endeavor has its own difficulties and the team successfully withstood them by working together. August has been a wonderful month with exciting and fun-filled activities involving members, families and children. A Cleanliness Drive was organized on 2nd August aspart of an awareness campaign to accomplish the vision of Swachh Waltair Club. Members and staff took part actively and made it a great success. Cleanliness needs constant attention and therefore it should be a combined effort of all members. Independence Day Eve is an annual observance celebrated every year on the evening before Independence Day. The cultural events by the members' children, the food and beverage service were highly appreciated. Indian National flag was hoisted in the early hours of 15th August, followed by a sumptuous breakfast. Over 300 members participated in the event inspite of inclement weather. The latest blockbuster of Tollywood,'BAAHUBALI'was screened within a short time of its release.it was another feather in the cap for the Entertainment Committee wherein a record over 1300 members viewed the film. Thanks to our own members, Producer Devineni Sai Prasad and A.SekharBabu for sponsoring the same. Sports Committee identified health as one of its goals and a series of progressive steps arebeing taken to develop health-promoting activities in the form of structural programs. Existing facilities are strengthened and more new facilities will be made available shortly. What does a Club Member need or want? What is their definition of value? These are the questions that are being addressed by Catering and Bar Committees as members' expectations about all aspects of the Club are huge. Shells kitchen is partially open and improved quality breakfast and snacks are now served. Ladies Committee has shown that they are in no way behind men. They are not only organizing programs and workshops for the benefit of ladies, but are also supporting the Entertainment Committee in its activities. Effective housekeeping and hygiene to control physical and biological sources of illness and discomfort is a focused area of operation this year and therefore we have outsourced housekeeping work in some parts of the Club area initially and based on the results we will extend to entire Club premise. COLORS OF INDIA PERMEATES WALTAIR CLUB The Pre Independence bash at the club was aptly titled "Colors of India" as a colorful spectrum of entertainment and fun was showcased at the Centenary hall to a packed audience of 400 members and guests. The stage was simple with the hues of the tricolor proudly displayed while the mood of guests had the patriotic fervor. It was heart rending to see many senior members walk in on the dot to get their front row seats to enjoy the visual bonanza that was served. A sound blast set to lilting voice of Lata Mangeshkar's "Vande Mataram" opened the stage show and our member Dr. Meenakshi Anantram (A 82) and in house anchor, set the pace with her opening comments and followed up with her impeccable style of speech presenting the entire event fittingly. A traditional lamp lighting by president Mr. D.V Raju and his team was followed by a swagatam dance by National Awardee AKRUTI - daughter of our active member Murali Krishna and Madhuri as a great way to kick start the event followed by a patriotic invocation by a professional dance team from Kolkata. The star performer was Playback singer and winner Chakde AVISHEK SINHA who took the audience mood from nostalgic old numbers through flavours of Patriotism and national Integration and finally ended with high decible bollywood hits. The stage got full with children who just couldnt resist shaking a leg with the singer and his team. A special interlude filler by International Digi- tal Musician DTS ANAND (of MAA Tv fame) brought the house down with thunderous ap- plause. The highlight of the event, however, was the thrilling dedication to Late APJ Kalam and a fashion dedication to modern India by 10 lovely in- house models of our club. Set to the haunting tune of Vandemataram by AR Rehman and choreographed by Dr. Meenakshi Anantram, the fashion splash featured a specially designed collection of long gagras and tricolor flags backed by pure white Indo Western cuts. Dr. Hema Hari, Reena Somani, Sushma Muppudi, Nitya Oza, Kushi Oza, Ganta AAshritha, Reshu Agarwal, Ganta Anvitha stole the show with their attitude and grace. Little Avani Somani completed the picture with her entry in the finale to represent the future of India and had the audience applauding and asking for more. A colorful picture with the tricolors emerged as the models opened out their skirts and dupattas to reveal the true pride in their Indian hearts. Kudos to the Entertainment Committee, Ladies Sub Committee and Event Managers Razzmatazz for putting this show together. Dj Gangu played on as the floor opened to the dancers of the club. It was wonderful to witness the generation next take to the floor with their doting grand fathers in tow. At the stroke of midnight, the President, event team and artists sang the national anthem before signing off that wonderful and memorable night. Long live Mother India. Great lip smacking food by the in house team of the club added to the success of the event. Members are now keeping a watch out for more such great events in the club.
WORKSHOP REVIEW - WALTAIR CLUB LADIES' COMMITTEE One of the recent additions to the Waltair Club's weekly calendar has been the advent of 'Tuesday Workshops' for the friends and families of the Club. The idea behind its inception wasto find an innovative way to engage members of the club, while bringing in qualified and interesting people to provideour members with fresh perspectives to concepts of everyday life. The first workshop, 'Sujok' was held on August 18 to offer a differentiated approach to pain management. The workshop was hosted by a Salma Mehdi, a senior Sujok therapist who is a member of both the International Sujok Association and the National Convener. As an alternative pain management approach, it has helped several people deal with body pains and ailments. Approaches to the therapy were demonstrated in 1-3 minute sessions, and highlighted tips on managing basic pains without the need for modern day medication. The second instalment of our mini-series took place on August 25, in the form of a 'Rakhi & Craft' workshop, where both young girls and ladies came together to design their very own Rakhis in lieu of the approaching festival. The event was hosted by a very talented girl - Paridhi Agarwal. It was great to see the members coming together to use their imagination to produce a handmade, creative, and lasting symbol of sibling love. Following the stellar success of our first two events, wclc has got two more workshops lined up! The first is scheduled to take place on September 1 on 'Soups n Salad by Home Cooks', to add a delicious twist to everyday healthy eating. The second is scheduled for the following week on September 8 on 'Beauty - An Image Consultation', where we bring in a lifestyle consultant to guide our members on everyday, simple tips to look bold and beautiful! The initial responsehas been tremendous, with many offering to come forward and host their very own workshops. The attendance and feedback from the members has been very exciting and the ladies committee looks forward to hosting many such events where all of us can come together to showcase our talents, while learning a few handy tricks along the way.
