3. Insallaion and connecion 3.1 emarks The facory only provides he hea pump uni; he oher pars, including a coningen by-pass, are o be provided by he user or he insaller. Aenion: Please ake he following seps when insalling he hea pump: 1. Each addiion of chemicals has o be performed hrough he conduis locaed AFTE he hea pump. 2. Insall a by-pass 3. Always place he hea pump on a solid base and use he supplied silen blocks in order o avoid vibraions and noise. 4. Always keep he hea pump in uprigh posiion. If he uni has been iled, you should wai for a leas 24 hours before urning i on. 3.2 ocaion of he hea pump The uni will perform well on any locaion provided hree facors are presen: 1. Fresh air - 2. Elecriciy - 3. Pool filer piping The uni may be insalled virually anywhere oudoors providing minimum disance requiremens are me wih respec o oher objecs (see diagram below). For indoor pools please consul your insaller. If he uni is placed in a windy area, no problems occur wih e.g. he pilo ligh, as opposed o wha is ofen he case wih gas heaers. ATTETIO: Do no place he uni in an enclosed area wih a limied air volume where he uni's discharged air will be re-circulaed or near shrubs ha could block he air inle. These locaions deny he uni a coninuous fresh air supply, which reduces is efficiency and may preven adequae hea yield. See diagram below for minimum required disances. 7

3.3 Disance from he pool ormally, he pool hea pump is insalled wihin a 7. meer radius of he pool. The greaer he disance from he pool, he greaer he hea loss from he piping. Since he piping is buried for he mos par, hea loss is minimal for disances of up o 30 meers (1 meers o and from he pump = 30 meers oal), unless he soil is we or he waer level is high. Hea loss per 30 meers could roughly be esimaed a 0.6 kw-hour (2000 BTU) for every C emperaure difference beween he pool waer and he soil surrounding he pipe, which ranslaes o an operaion ime increase of 3 o %. 3.4 Insallaion of he check-valve Aenion When using auomaic chlorine and ph dosage sysems, i is of uermos imporance o proec he hea pump from high concenraions of hese chemicals ha could corrode he hea exchanger. Therefore, such sysems should add he chemicals in he conduis locaed DOWSTEAM of he hea pump and i is recommended o insall a check-valve in order o preven backflow when here is no waer circulaion. Damage o he hea pump caused by disregarding any of hese recommendaions will invalidae he warrany. 8

3. Typical seup oe This seup is jus an example 3.6 Adjusing he by-pass To!Pool BY#$#PASS Valve!1 Valve!3 Valve!2 From!Pool The hea pump reaches maximum efficiency when emperaure difference beween I and OUT is abou 1 2 degrees Celsius (see parameers A and B, par 4.3). The emperaure difference is influenced by he flow of waer hrough he hea pump. The flow can be adjused wih By-pass valve 1. The flow increases when valve 1 is shu more and vice versa. ou Hea!pump in Operaing pressure of he refrigeran can be moniored on he pressure gauge of he hea pump. The pressure is infuenced by waer- and ambien emperaure and is auomaically conrolled by he hea pump. oe The absence of a by-pass or performing an inadequae by-pass adjusmen may cause he hea pump o funcion less well or may even damage i, which will invalidae he warrany. 9

3.7 Elecrical hook-up Imporan - Alhough he hea pump is elecrically isolaed from he res of he uni, his only prevens he passage of elecriciy o or from he pool waer. Grounding he uni is sill required o proec yourself from shor circuis inside he uni. Make for adequae ground connecion. Check if he elecrical mains volage corresponds wih he operaing volage of he hea pump prior o hooking up he uni. I is recommended o use a separae fuse (slow ype D-curve) as well as adequae wiring (see able below). Connec he elecrical wires wih he erminal block labelled TO POWE SUPPY. ex o his connecion, here is a second erminal block labelled TO PUMP, o which he filer pump (max. A/240V) or an elecrical relay for a filraion pump can be conneced. This connecion makes i possible o conrol filer pump operaion wih he hea pump. See furher; paragraph 4.2 (parameer 9) for he differen possibiliies. TO PUMP connecion emark For 3 phase moors (like a compressor), swiching 2 phases may cause an inversion in he roaional direcion, which could damage he uni. Therefore, a proecion device has been buil in, which will inerrup he circui if he connecion has no been performed correcly. If, righ afer elecrical connecion has been made, he display of he pump does no illuminae, and he pump doesn sar, 2 phase wires have o be swiched. Model Volage (vol) Fuse (A) ominal curren (A) Cable diameer (mm 2 ) (for a max. lengh of 1 meers) DUA-7 220-240 10 4,8 2 x 2, + 2, DUA-10 220-240 16 6,7 2*2. + 2. DUA-13 220-240 20 10,4 2*2, + 2. 3.8 Firs ime sar-up oe - In order for he uni o hea he pool (or spa), he filer pump mus be running so ha he waer can circulae hrough he hea pump. Wihou his circulaion, he hea pump will no sar. When all connecions have been made and checked, you should follow hese seps: 1. Turn on he filer pump. Check for leaks and verify flow o and from he pool. 2. Turn on he elecrical power supply o he uni, hen press he O/OFF key on he elecronic conrol panel. The uni should sar when he ime delay period has lapsed (see furher). 3. When he uni has been running for a couple of minues, check if he air leaving he uni is cooler. 4. Check he performance of he flow swich as follows: wih he uni running, urn he filer pump off. The uni should also swich off auomaically. If no, he flow swich mus be readjused. (see furher under 6.2).. Allow he uni and filer pump o run 24 hours a day unil he desired pool waer emperaure is reached. When he se emperaure is reached, he uni swiches iself off. The uni will now auomaically resar (as long as your filer pump is running) when he emperaure of he pool waer experiences a drop of more han 1 C below he se emperaure. Depending on he saring emperaure of he pool waer and he air emperaure, i can ake several days for he waer o reach he desired emperaure. Covering he pool can drasically reduce his period. Waer flow swich he uni is equipped wih a flow swich ha is swiched on when enough waer is flowing in he uni and ha is swiched off when he waer flow becomes oo low (e.g. when he filer pump is swiched off). Time delay he uni is equipped wih a buil-in 3-minue sar delay included o proec he compressor and elecrical conacs. Afer his ime delay, he uni will auomaically be resared. Even a brief inerrupion of he power supply will acivae he sar delay and preven he uni from saring immediaely. Addiional inerrupions of he power supply during he delay period will have no effec on he 3-minue coundown. 3.9 Condensaion When he swimming pool waer is being heaed by he hea pump, he incoming air is cooled down quie a bi, which can cause condensaion on he fins of he evaporaor. Condensed volumes can aain several lires per hour under high amospheric humidiy. Someimes, his is wrongfully inerpreed as a waer leak. 11

. Proecion sysems DUA hea pumps are equipped wih he following sandard proecion sysems:.1 Flow swich Thanks o his flow swich, he hea pump will no work when he filer pump is no working (and he waer is no circulaing). This sysem prevens he hea pump from heaing only he waer presen in he hea pump iself. The proecion also sops he hea pump if waer circulaion is cu off or sopped..2 efrigeran gas high and low pressure proecion The high pressure proecion makes sure he hea pump is no damaged in case of over-pressurisaion of he gas. The low pressure proecion emis a signal when refrigeran is escaping from he conduis and he uni canno be kep running..3 Overheaing proecion on he compressor This proecion proecs he compressor from overheaing..4 Auomaic defros conrol When he air is very humid and cold, ice can form on he evaporaor. In ha even, a hin layer of ice appears ha will grow increasingly bigger as long as he hea pump is running. When he emperaure of he evaporaor has become oo low, auomaic defros conrol will be acivaed, which will reverse he hea pump cycle so ha ho refrigeran gas is sen hrough he evaporaor during a brief period of ime o defros i.. Temperaure difference beween inflowing and ouflowing waer During normal operaion of he hea pump, he emperaure difference beween inflowing and ouflowing waer will approximae 1 o 2 C. In he even ha he pressure swich does no work and ha he waer sops circulaing, he emperaure probe monioring he ouflowing waer will always deec a rise in emperaure. As soon as he emperaure difference beween inflowing and ouflowing waer exceeds 13 C, he hea pump will be auomaically urned off..6 ow emperaure cu-ou If, during cooling, he emperaure of he ouflowing waer reaches C or drops below his emperaure, he hea pump will urn iself off unil he waer emperaure reaches or exceeds 7 C again. 16

.7 Ani-fros proecion during winer This proecion can only be acivaed if he hea pump is in STAD-BY mode..7.1 Firs ani-fros proecion If he filer pump is conrolled by he hea pump (regardless of he value for parameer 9) and when he waer emperaure lies beween 2 and 4 C and he air emperaure is lower han 0 C, he filer pump will be auomaically urned on o preven he waer from freezing in he piping. This proecion is deacivaed when he emperaure rises again..7.2 Second ani-fros proecion If he waer emperaure drops even more, ha is, below 2 C (during long fros periods), he hea pump will also sar running o hea he waer unil is emperaure approximaes 3 C. When his emperaure is reached, he hea pump will sop, bu ani-fros proecion will remain acive unil condiions change. 17

6. Direcions 6.1 Swimming pool waer chemisry Special aenion should be paid o he chemical balance of he pool waer. The pool waer values should always say wihin he following limis: Min. Max. ph 7.0 7.8 Free chlorine (mg/l) 0. 1.2 TAC (mg/l) 80 10 Sal (g/l) 8 Imporan: failure o comply wih hese limis will invalidae he warrany. oe: exceeding one or several limis can damage he hea pump beyond repair. Always insall waer reamen equipmen pas he hea pump s waer oule, especially if he chemicals are auomaically added o he waer. A check-valve should also be insalled beween he oule of he hea pump and his equipmen in order o preven producs from flowing back ino he hea pump if he filer pump sops. 6.2 Hea pump winerizing Imporan: failure o ake he necessary precauions for winerizing can damage he hea pump, which will invalidae he warrany. The hea pump, filer pump, filer and conduis mus be proeced in areas where he emperaure can drop below he freezing poin. Evacuae all waer from he hea pump as follows: 1. inerrup he elecrical power supply o he hea pump 2. close he waer supply o he hea pump: compleely close valves 2 and 3 of he by-pass 3. disconnec he waer inle and oule coupler fiings of he hea pump and le he waer drain ou of he uni 4. loosely reaach waer inle and oule coupler fiings o he hea pump in order o preven dir from geing ino he conduis. oe: hese precauions should no be aken if you choose o use he buil-in ani-fros proecion. 6.3 esaring he pump afer winer If you purged your hea pump for winerizing, you should underake he following seps o resar i in spring: 1. check firs if here is no dir in he conduis and if here are no srucural problems 2. check if he waer inle and oule coupler fiings are adequaely fasened o he hea pump 3. sar he filer pump o sar he waer flow o he hea pump. Se he by-pass again. 4. reconnec he elecrical power supply o he hea pump and urn i O. 18

6.4 Check-up DUA hea pumps have been developed and buil o las, ha is, if hey have been insalled correcly and can run under normal condiions. egular check-ups are imporan if you wan your hea pump o funcion safely and efficienly for years on end. They can damage he hea pump.. preven rain from direcly running off a roof ono he hea pump. Insall proper drainage. 6. do no use he hea pump if i has been flooded. Immediaely conac a qualified echnician o inspec he hea pump and repair i if should prove necessary. Condensaion can occur when he hea pump is running. This condensaion can flow away hrough an opening in he base pan of he uni. The amoun of condensaion waer will increase when amospheric humidiy is high. emove any dir ha could possibly hamper he evacuaion of condensaion. 10 o 20 lires of condensaion waer can be produced while he uni is running. If more condensaion is produced, sop he hea pump and wai for one hour before checking for leaks in he conduis. OTE: A quick way o verify ha he waer running hrough he condensaion drain is indeed condensaion, is o shu off he uni and keep he pool pump running. If he waer sops running ou of he condensaion drain, i is condensaion. A EVE QUICKE WAY is o TEST THE DAI WATE FO CHOIE. If no chlorine is deeced, he drain waer is a resul of condensaion. Also ake care o leave air inle and exhaus passages free. Preven exhaus air from immediaely re-enering he uni hrough he inle. 19

7. Mainenance and inspecion 7.1 Mainenance Check he waer inle and drainage ofen. The waer and air inflow ino he sysem should be sufficien so ha is performance and reliabiliy does no ge compromised.
