THE HEAD COACHES Jim Harbaugh enters his second season as head coach after leading the 49ers to a 13-3 regular season record, its best since 1997, and a NFC West Division title, its first since 2002, last year. The consensus NFL Coach of the Year also led his squad to its first appearance in the NFC Championship game since 1998. Known to routinely deflect all credit for success to his players, Harbaugh had a great deal to be proud of in 2011. San Francisco boasted a league-high five First-Team Associated Press All- Pros - DT Justin Smith, LB Patrick Willis, LB NaVorro Bowman, K David Akers and P Andy Lee (Justin Smith as a DE, LT Joe Staley and CB Carlos Rogers were named to the Second Team). The 49ers also posted a NFL-high nine Pro Bowl selections Smith, Willis, Akers, Lee, Rogers, Staley, S Dashon Goldson, RB Frank Gore, and LS Brian Jennings. Harbaugh joined the 49ers after a four-year stint as the head coach at Stanford University, composing the biggest turnaround in school history over a four-year span (2007-10). He posted a 20-6 record over the last two seasons, which included a historic 12-1 season (2010) that was punctuated by an Orange Bowl win in the first Bowl Championship Series bowl appearance in school history. Harbaugh orchestrated two of the highest scoring teams in school history, three of the top four rushing teams in program history and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time since 1995 and 96. Along his coaching trail, Harbaugh served stints as the head coach at the University of San Diego (2004-06) and as an offensive assistant with the Oakland Raiders (2002-03). As a first round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in 1987, Harbaugh played for five teams over 15 seasons and ranks in the NFL s top-50 in two career passing categories - completions (41st) and pass attempts (45th). As a player, he helped lead the University of Michigan to two bowl appearances, garnering Big Ten Player of the Year honors. WR A.J. Jenkins - 1st Round - 30th Overall A versatile wide receiver, A.J. Jenkins possesses the skill set to line up at all three receiver positions. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Jenkins became just the second player in Illinois history to register 90 receptions in a season, as a senior. His 1,276 receiving yards ranked second in school history. I think he s a guy that can just about do everything. The separation he can get, it just comes natural. Especially coming out sideways, breaking down, getting in and out of cuts, things like that. He has a great feel, great body language. I think it s something that is one of his strengths. 49ers QB Alex Smith 2012 DRAFT CLASS S Trenton Robinson - 6th Round - 180th Overall A three-year starter at Michigan State, Trenton Robinson was elected team captain his senior year as the Spartans led the Big Ten and ranked 6th in the nation in total defense (277.4 yds./gm.). Robinson registered a career high 80 tackles and was named First-Team All-Big Ten, in 2011. He also led the Spartans with 4 INTs in each of his final two seasons. I think Trenton s done a good job of improving from the first day he got here in the offseason after the rookies came in in May. He was swimming then a little bit mentally. I think he s gotten better, has a little better feel for our package, yet still has a long way to go, but he s gotten better. 49ers Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio RB LaMichael James - 2nd Round - 61st Overall LaMichael James became the first two-time consensus All-America selection in Oregon history. In 2011, James led the nation, averaging 150.4 rushing yards per game, and ranked 2nd in the NCAA with 1,805 rushing yards. The recipient of the Doak Walker Award as the nation s top running back in 2010, James became just the third player in Pac-10/12 Conference history to rush for over 5,000 yards in his career. LaMichael James is fast. When you really look at LaMichael and the body of work he put together in college, he was a very effective inside and outside runner. He s a tough, in-between-the-tackles runner in college and now it s a matter of just him adapting to that in the pros. We re throwing it all at him and we re going to just evaluate and get a feel for what he s good at. - 49ers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman G Joe Looney - 4th Round - 117th Overall A four-year starter at left guard for Wake Forest, Joe Looney was a Second-Team All-ACC selection, in 2011. In each of the last two seasons, Looney graded out as the team s highest-rated offensive lineman. Really bright guy. Really smart, smart person. Not only book smart, but street smart, football smart. Everything matched up. Everything that you d heard about Joe and all of our research that we did on Joe at the school. You cannot find a person on that campus who has anything less than glowing things to say about him. Professors, coaches, trainers, equipment managers, from faculty to football to everybody that comes in contact with him there literally not a negative word. And you see what he s done, the pattern of success that he s had in the classroom, on the field. And then to meet him and to see and know that it all matches up, that was glaring to me. 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh OL Jason Slowey - 6th Round - 199th Overall A two-time First-Team All-GNAC performer, Jason Slowey is the third football player from Western Oregon to be selected in the NFL Draft. A Division II standout, Slowey was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Lineman of the Year in 2011. Slowey is doing a great job as far as learning that playbook and competing. He might not know exactly how we re doing it or be as far along as the other guys, but he s doing a great job of learning, asking questions and being diligent in meetings. Then he s coming out here and competing. 49ers T Joe Staley LB Cam Johnson - 7th Round - 237th Overall A versatile linebacker who can play multiple positions, Cam Johnson was named Third-Team All-ACC in 2010 after registering a career-high 53 tackles and ranked sixth in the league with 6.5 sacks. Johnson led Virginia in both sacks and TFLs in each of his final two seasons. The guy obviously has talent. And like we told him, he s another guy that should come into the National Football League with a chip on his shoulder. He s a guy that believed he should have been a much higher pick. For whatever reason teams passed him over, and you like that. You like that about guys, come in here feeling that they were looked past and have a chip on their shoulder and are ready to compete for a position. - 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke LB Darius Fleming - 5th Round - 165th Overall A versatile athlete who played both defensive end and outside linebacker for the Fighting Irish, Darius Fleming ranks 10th in Notre Dame history with 15 career sacks. He posted 158 career tackles and was named Notre Dame s Lineman of the Year in 2011, after recording 55 tackles. Another great gold helmet guy. We believe he will have an outstanding opportunity with this football team. We rolled the dice last year with only three outside linebackers. It worked, but that is risky what we did last year. He will be competitive and has a tremendous upside. Looking forward to that. - 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh

1 QB Josh Johnson - 6-3, 205-5th Year A product of then-head coach Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego, Josh Johnson is in his 5th pro season. Johnson completed 96 of 177 passes for 1,042 yards and 5 touchdowns while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the last four seasons. A 25-yearold native of Oakland, CA, Johnson owns four USD career passing records including touchdown passes (113), completions (724), attempts (1,065) and passing yards (9,699). The great thing about Josh is just how smart he is. He s got a real high football IQ. He s coming from a West Coast system in Tampa Bay and he s thrilled to be back in the Bay area. Everyone knows about his athletic ability, but the thing that you get when you re in meetings and then when you see him out on the field is just how smart he is with his football IQ. We re excited to have him here. - 49ers Quarterbacks Coach Geep Chryst 14 WR Mario Manningham - 6-0, 185-5th Year Selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, Manningham recorded 160 receptions for 2,315 yards and 18 touchdowns over the past four seasons. In 2011, he played in 12 regular season games (10 starts) tallying 39 receptions for 523 yards and 4 touchdowns. Quickness, explosiveness, he s a very polished receiver. I think he s very swift in and out of his breaks. I tell a lot of the guys it s like he s crossing over with a basketball out there. You really have to be patient; he makes you a very patient player guarding him every day. 49ers CB Tarell Brown 20 CB Perrish Cox - 6-0, 190-2nd Year Cox was originally a fifth round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft. Cox has played in 15 games (9 starts), tallying 54 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception and ranked third among NFL rookies with a team-high 14 passes defensed, in 2010. A key special team s player, Cox made four tackles on special teams as well as returned nine kickoffs for 172 yards. Quick guy, he is always around the football. He has a lot of potential and will help this football team. He has a lot still to learn. He is showing up on film. He is around the ball all of the time and getting his hands on balls, and that s a big thing in the secondary. 49ers S Dashon Goldson 28 RB Rock Cartwright - 5-8, 215-11th Year A 10-year veteran, Cartwright spent his first eight seasons with the Redskins (2002-09), before playing the past two with the Oakland Raiders (2010-11). In his career, Cartwright has played in 154 games (5 starts), recording 228 carries for 956 yards and 6 touchdowns. A key special teams contributor, he has returned 231 kicks for 5,450 yards (23.6 avg.) and one touchdown, in addition to logging 93 tackles on those units. Here s a very intelligent- I can t say young man because he s been around for a long time, but a real professional when it comes to playing the game and practicing the game. The guy always knows what he s supposed to do, works really hard and is a great person in the locker room and on the field. We re really glad he s here. - 49ers Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Brad Seely KEY FREE AGENT ACQUISITIONS 45 RB Brandon Jacobs - 6-4, 264-8th Year Jacobs was originally selected in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. The seven-year veteran has played in 100 games (48 starts) for the Giants, rushing for 4,849 yards, and a franchise-record 56 touchdowns, on 1,078 carries. Jacobs also recorded 80 receptions for 730 yards and four touchdowns. In 2011, he played in 14 games (six starts) and tallied 571 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on 152 carries, while adding 15 receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown. Brandon is a guy, and you think back on his career, when he gets his shoulders squared to the line of scrimmage and gets a forward lean, he is something. He s a unique running back. We ve seen a good amount of that. The big thing that I m impressed with Brandon, one of the many things, is he s very critical of himself. He might make a great run and hit it with just some big power. And he ll still say, I could have done this better, I could have done that better and that s an impressive (trait). We like that, we like that, that s what we look for. He s been a great fit 49ers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman 68 G Leonard Davis - 6-6, 355-11th Year - 3 Pro Bowls Davis was orginially selected with the second pick overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2001 NFL Draft. He has started all 155 games in which he has appeared, was named Second-Team All-Pro in 2007 and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection (2007-09). After spending six seasons with the Cardinals (2001-06), Davis was signed by the Dallas Cowboys on March 5, 2007 where he remained with the club for four seasons (2007-10). (Davis is) working extremely hard to get up to speed. He is right on track and done that. I think that s a product of being a veteran, being somebody who has been in systems and knows the game. He s a physical presence. 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh 84 WR Randy Moss - 6-4, 201-14th Year - 6 Pro Bowls One of the most prolific wide receivers in NFL history, Randy Moss joins the 49ers with 13 years of NFL experience. The six-time Pro Bowler, and fourtime AP All-Pro, set the NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions in 2007 with 23. Moss has caught 10 or more touchdown passes in nine NFL seasons and registered 10, 1,000-yard receiving campaigns. Moss and Jerry Rice are the only NFL player to register 100 touchdown receptions in fewer than 140 games. In NFL history, he now ranks tied for 2nd with 153 career receiving touchdowns and 9th with 954 receptions. A crafty veteran. Most of the time, you play a guy s eyes or play his hands, Randy is a good guy at not showing you anything. He will let the ball fall into his chest before he puts his hands up. Most guys are going to come out and reach for the ball and give us a chance to break the pass up. Randy is going to make sure the ball is coming to his chest and you can t get to it. - 49ers CB Carlos Rogers

THE COMEBACK TRAIL Five, 4th quarter come-from-behind wins in the regular season epitomized the never-quit attitude the 49ers embodied in 2011. One player in particular can parallel his career to the theme, QB Alex Smith. Smith s 5 come-from-behind wins ranked t-1st in the NFL (NYG QB Eli Manning and Den. QB Tim Tebow). He has also registered 4, 4th quarter comebacks on the road, ranking t-1st in the NFL (Manning - 4). Smith also tied the franchise record for most 4th qtr. comebacks on the road (QB Joe Montanta - 4 in 1989). 2011 4th Quarter Comebacks: With the 49ers trailing 6-3 in the 4th qtr. at Cin. (9/25), Smith completed 4 of 8 passes for 48 yds. during a 10-play, 72-yd. TD drive. The 49ers won the game, 13-8. The 49ers won at Phi. (10/2) in the 4th qtr. on the strength of their running game and defense. Smith completed 9 of 9 passes for 179 yds. and 2 TDs in the 3rd qtr., when the 49ers erased most of a 20-point deficit. He completed 4 of 8 passes for 22 yds. in the final 15 minutes, setting up a RB Frank Gore go-ahead TD with 3:00 remaining in the game. With the game on the line, and trailing 15-19, Smith found TE Delanie Walker for the go-ahead touchdown on a 4th down play with 1:56 remaining at Det. (10/16). The 49ers entered the 4th qtr. trailing the Giants 12-13, as Smith found TE Vernon Davis for a 31-yd. TD and WR Michael Crabtree on the ensuing two-point conversion to give the 49ers 20-13 lead vs. NYG (11/13). RB Kendall Hunter added a 17-yd. TD on the 49ers next possession, to cap off the 49ers comeback. Trailing 16-17 with just 6:41 remaining in the game at Sea. (12/24), Smith engineered a 6 play, 40-yd. drive, including a 41-yd. pass to WR Michael Crabtree. The drive was capped off by a K David Akers 39-yd. FG to give the 49ers a 19-17 lead. Dating back to December 1, 2010, the 49ers have been successful in the familiar surroundings of Candlestick Park, posting a 9-1 (.900) record. San Francisco s.900 winning pct. at home ranks t-3rd in the NFL in that time span [Green Bay is 11-0 (1.000), New England is 10-1 (.909) and New Orleans is 9-1 (.900)]. They re very creative there. That s the thing that sticks out to me as much as anything. And obviously there s a discipline and a workman-like approach that [head coach Jim Harbaugh] brings to things that clearly the players have bought into. RUSHING RECORDS RB Frank Gore surpassed 49ers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe The Jet Perry as the all-time leading rusher in franchise history with 7,468 career rushing yards. Gore has rushed for 1,063 yds. and 7 TDs on 223 carries (4.8 avg.) since the beginning of October, including rushing for over 100 yds. in five games. He became the first player in franchise history to rush for over 100 yds. in 5 consecutive games. It also marked the first time he registered a rushing TD in four straight games (10/2 through 10/30). Gore also became just the 4th player since 1970 to rush for 125 yds.- or-more and a rushing TD in four consecutive games, joining RB O.J. Simpson (1975), RB Terrell Davis (1998) and RB Larry Johnson (2005).

rushing INTO THE RECORD books Over the course of his eight-year career, RB Frank Gore has been the go-to guy in the backfield for the 49ers. Gore has been more than productive after being selected in the 3rd round (65th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. His productivity since that time has allowed him to become the franchise s all-time leading rusher during just his seventh season. Gore s Career Highlights... Gore surpassed WR Terrell Owens vs. Sea. (9/11/11) to move into 3rd place in all-time yards from scrimmage in franchise history. Throughout Gore s seven seasons in the NFL, he has averaged 4.6 yds./carry, which ranks 4th in the NFL over that time span (min. 1,000 carries). His 4.6 career avg. also ranks 4th in franchise history (min. 750 atts.) among running backs. ALL-TIME 49ERS YARDS FROM SCRIMMAGE Player Total Yds. Rush Receive 1. coming UP big QB Alex Smith s 2011 performance was one of the best seasons a quarterback in the history of this storied franchise has ever put together. Smith led the 49ers to a 13-3 record in the regular season and helped the team clinch the NFC West for the first time since 2002. He set numerous career-highs and etched his name in the 49ers record books by throwing for 17 TDs and 5 INTs last season, setting the FEWEST INTs, SINGLE SEASON, FRANCHISE HISTORY Player Year Ints 1. His 5 INTs also rank t-3rd in NFL history for fewest INTs thrown in a season. Never Say Never... In 2011, Smith led the 49ers to five, 4th-qtr. comebacks in the regular season, including 4 on the road. His 4 come-from-behind road victories tied the franchise record set by Joe Montana in 1989. Smith wasn t finished with his improbable comebacks as he engineered another come-from-behind victory vs. the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round of the playoffs. He led two TD drives of 80 and 85 yds. to catapult the Niners into the NFC Championship game. In the five come-from-behind victories in 2011, Smith posted stellar numbers, going 22-32 for 303 yds. with 4 TDs and 0 turnovers and a QB rating of 138.4 (stats tallied from the point in the game of the 49ers largest deficit). (12/24/11), the Niners trailed 17-16 with 6:47 remaining. Smith led the team on a 6-play drive, including a spot on throw for 41 yds. to WR Michael Crabtree on 2nd and 18, to set up the go-ahead FG by Akers a few plays later. The victory kept the team in the driver s seat for the No. 2 NFC seed and first round bye in the playoffs, which was clinched the following week at StL. On Nov. 13, 2011 vs. NYG, the 49ers trailed 12-13 entering the fourth qtr. before Smith outdueled Giants QB Eli Manning. Smith engineered a couple scoring drives in the 4th qtr. to put the Niners ahead for good, 27-20. At Det. (10/16/11), Smith led the 49ers from 10 pts. down and threw the game-winning TD with just under two minutes remaining in the game on fourth down to TE Delanie Walker. A week prior, Smith orchestrated one of the biggest come-from-behind victories in team history. Trailing 23-3 in the 3rd quarter at Phi. (10/2/11), Smith led the 49ers on 3 unanswered TD drives to win the game, 24-23. It marked the largest comeback win for the 49ers during the regular season since October 20, 1996, when San Francisco rallied from a 20-point deficit in the 2nd quarter to beat the Cincinnati Bengals. The comeback began after the Eagles took a 23-3 lead on Philadelphia K Alex Henery s 33-yard field goal with 9:30 left in the 3rd quarter. During a 7-minute span, Smith directed TD drives of 80 and 77 yds., capped by a 3-yd. slant to WR Joshua Morgan and a 9-yd. toss to TE Vernon Davis. Smith completed 9 of 9 passes for 179 yards in the 3rd quarter, posting a perfect QB ranking of 158.3. With the 49ers down 23-17 with 6:28 remaining, Smith led an 8-play, 77-yd. drive that culminated with RB Frank Gore s 12-yd. TD gallop to put the 49ers ahead for good, 24-23. And The Winner Is... Alex Smith was chosen by his teammates as the 2011 Ed Block Courage Award recipient. The award, which is given annually to the player that exemplifies a commitment to sportsmanship and courage, is the first for Smith. The starting quarterback also symbolizes professionalism, great strength, dedication and serves as a community role model for others, which are requirements to receive the award. Smith is just the second quarterback in franchise history to win the award and first since Joe Montana in 1986. Quick Hits on Smith... Smith threw just 5 INTs in 2011, setting the franchise record for fewest INTs in a season (min. 400 atts.). His 5 INTs also rank t-3rd in NFL history for fewest INTs thrown in a season (min. 400 atts.). Smith posted an INT pct. of 1.1 for the 2011 season, ranking 1st in the NFL. His 1.1 INT pct. also ranks 1st in franchise history and 3rd in NFL history (min. 400 atts.). Smith also compiled a TD:INT ratio of 3.40 (17 TDs, 5 INTs), which ranks 3rd in franchise history (min. 150 atts.). Against Tampa Bay (10/9), Smith led the 49ers to the largest margin of victory for the team in the regular season since Dec. 27, 1987 when they won by 48 pts. vs. LA Rams on 12/27/87 (48-0). Smith posted a QB rating of 127.2, the 2nd highest of his career. I think another thing you can look to is his ability to hold it together and move the team in the clutch. It was a great thing [at Philadelphia], staying poised, not being affected by certain stances and performing when we needed him to perform. That s what allowed us, one of the reasons, we won the game. 49ers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman

GAME CHANGER One of the most athletic and versatile players in the NFL, TE Vernon Davis has emerged as a premier tight end. Davis earned Pro Bowl recognition as an alternate the past two seasons after having been named a starter for the annual game in 2009. Since entering the league in 1998, WR Randy Moss has been building a Hall of Fame legacy on the backs of opposing secondaries. His arrival in San Francisco puts him in the same uniform as the only receiver in front of him for many NFL records, Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. Now donning the red and gold, Moss has had a positive impact on the locker room and enjoyed taking a lot of the younger players under his wing. Now that I m matured physically and mentally, my philosophy is I do not like what the NFL does for me, I want to know what I can do to make the NFL better. said the 14-year veteran Moss. And if that s coming out here teaching the young guys and showing my professionalism and being a leader on and off the field, that s what I want to do because I think that if we get that type of mindset it ll make it a better league. QB Alex Smith has had nothing but great things to say about Moss and the wealth of knowledge he brings to the team. He s a great communicator out there, said Smith. A guy that played that much, he sees things really well, communicates really well. So, it s really been great working with him. Honestly I ve learned a lot. Moss s on-field history speaks for itself. His name is etched in the Top 10 in numerous NFL receiving records, and will continue to rise to the top with a successful 2012 campaign. Moss s Career Highlights... Ranks t-2nd all-time in rec. That mark is 3rd best in NFL history behind Bill Groman, 1,473 (Houston, 1960) and Anquan Boldin, 1,377 (Arizona, 2003). There is nobody left to chase when it comes to most receiving TDs in a season, Moss stands alone with the 23 he scored in 2007 as a Patriot. WR Jerry Rice had 22 in 1987 with the 49ers. 2007 also saw Moss post 9, 100-yd. receving games which is good for 6th on the all-time list. In 2007 Moss had a 4 TD game vs. Buffalo (11/18/07) as a member of the Patriots, putting him in 4th all-time for most TDs in a game. Moss has finished the season as the NFL leader in TD recepts. 5 times, putting him in 3rd all-time behind WR Jerry Rice (6) and WR Don Hutson (9). For 10 consecutive games in 2003-04, Moss caught at least 1 TD pass, placing him in a 4th place tie with Carl Pickens (10). Moss is the fastest player to reach 5,000 career receiving yards in NFL History (59 games). He broke the previous record held by WR Jerry Rice (61 games). Moss has the most 1,200+ yd. receiving seasons to start a career 6 (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003). Randy Moss is synonymus with big plays, and his place in the NFL record books is at the top, along with Terrell Owens at 158 recepts. of 25+ yds. Moss has torn up the turf at NFL stadiums throughout his highly decorated career en route to posting ridiculous receiving statistics. The manner in which he has attained those statistics, sometimes making defenders look silly, has caused hi peers to coin the phrase - Getting Mossed. Moss currently ranks 9th in NFL history, averaging 73.6 yds. per game receiving. Moss is 2nd among active NFL receivers in rec. yds., and is 5th on the all-time list. MOST REC. To PROTECT AND SERVE A 5th-year pro from Central Michigan University, T Joe Staley was named a starter on his 1st Pro Bowl team after his stellar play in 2011. Staley has been the anchor on the offensive line since entering the league in 2007 and has had QB Alex Smith s blindside since then. Staley was named AP 2nd Team All-Pro in 2011 and no one was happier for him than Smith when he heard Staley was named to the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro honors. Really happy for Joe, really happy, said Smith. The guy works as hard as anybody and he s played at a high level now for a few years. I really feel like he hasn t got the recognition he s deserved, for whatever reason, as some of the other left tackles that I think get a lot of notoriety in this league. I really feel like he s all that player and then some. And this year he s really done it just week in and week out and has just played at a really high level. He s really taken a leadership role with that whole offensive line. Kind of really stepped up to the challenge and has really been a leader for us. Staley was part of an offensive line that helped the team rush for 1,928 yards in 2011, ranking seventh in the NFL. Staley and the offensive line were awarded the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award in Week 5, helping the offense rush for 213 yards on the ground while not allowing a sack. Jonathan Goodwin joined the 49ers after spending five seasons with the New Orleans Saints. A smart and savvy 10-year veteran, he has started the last 61 regular season games in which he has appeared and was responsible for all the calls and adjustments made by the offensive line. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2009 season and was a member of the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV Championship Team. Selected 17th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, Mike Iupati showcased his rare combination of size and athleticism as he was named the team s starting left guard during training camp his rookie season. He has started all 32 games, and both postseason contests, since his rookie year in 2010. Iupati, along with T Anthony Davis, are two of only five players from the 2010 Draft Class to start every game in each of the past two seasons. A mild and polite native of American Samoa, Iupati plays with a nasty mean streak on the field. Following his rookie season, Iupati was named to The Sporting News and PFW/ PFWA All- Rookie teams. Armed with tremendous size, strength, and athleticism, Anthony Davis made an immediate impact at right tackle as a rookie after being selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Davis, along with fellow rookie offensive lineman G Mike Iupati, were two of only five NFL rookies to start every game since 2010, and they became just the third set of rookies to start every game on the offensive line since the 16-game schedule was instituted in 1978. Davis diligently works on his craft throughout the offseason as he and Iupati spend countless hours watching film together.

YOU DON T GET THE POINT In 2011, the 49ers defense was one of the best in the NFL. The 49ers became the first team in NFL history not to allow a rushing TD through the first 14 games of a season. San Francisco s defense finished the season ranked 2nd in the NFL in opponents points per game (14.3), 1st in rushing defense (77.3 yds. per game) and t-1st in takeaways (38-23 INTs and 15 FRs). WILLING HIS TEAM TO VICTORY An annual candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year, LB Patrick Willis has created an impressive resume during his 5-year playing career - 5 Pro Bowl appearances, 4 All-Pro selections, 2 NFL Alumni Linebacker of the Year Awards and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. In 2011, his teammates named him a team captain and he later earned 1st Team AP All-Pro honors and was named a starter on the NFC Pro Bowl squad. On May 5, 2010, the 49ers and arguably the game s best defensive player agreed on a 5-year contract extension, ensuring that he will be donning the Red & Gold through the 2016 season. We will bring the sixth championship back here and I m just thankful today to know that I will be able to be here to do that, said Willis. An All-Pro on and off the field, Willis hosted his first camp for kids this past offseason in Palo Alto on June 9th and 10th. The All-Pro linebacker or Coach Willis to the campers bounced from field to field over the weekend and even took some snaps under center. He also tossed a few long touchdown passes and could be seen running down the field to join his campers in celebration. It was a lot of fun out there, Willis said. Anytime you get the opportunity to come back and give back, it s a great feeling. Without these guys I wouldn t be who I am today. Willis Career Highlights... A five-time Pro Bowl selection (2007-11), was the only rookie to earn All-Pro honors in 2007 as he was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. He became first 49ers defensive rookie to make the Pro Bowl and first-team All- Pro since CB Ronnie Lott in 1981. He joined CB Bruce Taylor (1970), DT Dana Stubblefield (1993) and DT Bryant Young (1994) as 49ers who have won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. THE CLOSER His consistent, blue collar approach every single day has earned DT Justin Smith talk of a candidacy for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors from his coaches and teammates, as well as others around the National Football League. Dating back to his rookie season, Smith has not missed a start in more than 10 seasons. He leads by example and his knowledge of the game has landed him back-to-back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances and consideration for this year s NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In addition to being named a starter in this year s Pro Bowl, Smith was named 1st Team AP All-Pro at DT and 2nd Team at DE. He is the first player to be named to the AP s 1st and 2nd team at different positions in the same phase of the game. After his performance vs. the Giants earlier in 2011 (11/13/11), Smith earned praise from various outlets, including San Jose Mercury News Columnist Tim Kawakami, who compared Smith with Yankees closer and future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, stating: Every serious playoff team needs an intimidating closer, and the 49ers have their guy in dominant form. Large fellow. Inspires his teammates. Weighs almost 300 pounds. Takes the game over when the drama builds and the stadium shakes... On a team that continues to rise to the NFL summit, Smith is the foundation, the quiet standard-bearer and undeniable tone-setter. Two times in 2011, Smith came up big for the 49ers by making defensive MVP-like plays. First, at Phi. (10/2/11), Smith sealed the victory by punching the ball loose from Eagles speedy wideout Jeremy Maclin to cap off a 20-pt. come-from-behind win. And again vs. NYG (11/13/11), on 4th down, Smith stuck his paw in the air to bat down Eli Manning s last attempt and once again cap off the victory for the Niners. With 7.5 sacks in 2011, Smith became just the 3rd player in franchise history to register at least 6 sacks in four consecutive seasons. The second overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals, Leonard Davis has started all 155 games in his career that he has appeared in. Davis made 3 consecutive Pro Bowl trips from 2007 to 2009 and started 64 straight games between 2007 and 2010. At 6-6, 355 pounds, Davis has been a big, strong and versatile run-blocker and pass protector, missing only 5 games from 2001 to 2010. // TRANSACTIONS Originally a 1st round (2nd overall) draft choice by Arz. in the 2001 NFL Draft...Signed as an unrestricted free agent by Dal. on 3/4/07...Released by Dal. on 7/28/11...Signed a one-year contract by Det. on 11/7/11...Signed a one-year contract with SF on 7/26/12. // AWARDS & HONORS 2001: PFW/PFWA All- Rookie Team 2007: Associated Press All-Pro 2nd Team, NFC Pro Bowl 2008: NFC Pro Bowl 2009: NFC Pro Bowl // GOLDMINE When Leonard isn t playing football, he can be heard playing music. Four years ago, he started playing the bass guitar, learning on his own before starting lessons a year later. That passion grew when he joined former Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen teammates Marc Colombo and Cory Procter to form the band Free Reign. The band signed a record deal and released its first album in 2009. In the last year, Davis became involved playing music at his local church in Phoenix, Az. Davis strength can be traced back to his youth. His father, L.A. Davis had to drop out of school when he was a teenager, begin working and help support his family. Growing up, Davis helped his family working odd jobs on a farm. We did backbreaking stuff, picking corn with your hands, not with a machine, going through and shredding it, throwing it over and in the tractor, Davis said. You scoop it in a bucket, throw it in the trailer and when its time to unload, you shovel it out. The constant exercise kept Davis in shape and helped build muscle. Davis said his dream of playing in the NFL started in 2nd grade. In elementary and middle school, he helped as a manager for the high school football team. Davis joined a youth football league in 6th grade, but it was difficult for his family to raise enough money to register so he could play sports. But enough friends and community members would help out. Just for me to go to a basketball tournament, people would have to pitch in. // 2011 (DETROIT) Signed with Det. on 11/7 and was inactive for final 8 games of regular season. // 2010 (DALLAS) Started all 16 games and one playoff game at RG.
