Appropriate Attire to be worn under cap and gown Graduation exercises are dignified and traditional; thus, students must dress appropriately. Appropriate dress is: * Men are to wear (black), dress slacks with a white collared dress shirt and (dark)tie. Men are to wear black dress shoes (no athletic shoes) and black socks. * Women are to wear dresses or skirts that do not show below the hem line of the gown. Women are to wear black dress shoes (Black preferred). (open or closed toe) No white shoes or athletic shoes. * No jeans or shorts will be worn. * Your hands are to be free of any items. Do not carry anything in your hands. Leave purses, cell phones, cameras, etc. with friends or family members. They will be taken from you at check in. Etiquette * All ceremonies require dignity. * Ignore anything inappropriate from guests. * Keep feet flat on the floor. You may cross your feet at the ankles. * No talking. Quiet dignity is the goal. * No gum. * Caps are to be worn flat, tassel on left front. * Men remove cap during the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, Invocation, Alma Mater and Benediction. Mechanics Maintain a quiet, orderly behavior in the lines. All services require dignity. During the processional and recessional, keep eyes straight ahead with your head up and back straight. Do not turn and look at the audience. Ushers will lead you into the arena when the processional begins. As you enter the main floor, stay about six feet behind the person in front of you. March briskly. You will enter down the center aisle. Enter your row and stand in front of one chair. If someone is absent, leave his/her seat vacant.
Remain standing until instructed to sit down. Men will remove their caps at appropriate times. There will be a recessional. You will march out similar to the processional. Ushers will lead you to the area where you will pick up your diploma. Richland High School Scholarship Recognition Ceremony May 23, 2014 8:30 a.m. Senior Guidelines I. General Overview A. Report to the main gym no later than 7:30 a.m. B. Wear your gown and appropriate dress under the gown. (no cap) C. Follow the dress code. D. Pick up Texas Scholar Medal in gym. Be sure to wear your medal at graduation. E. Follow the dress code. F. Check in with Ms. Morgan for scholarship information Sit in the bleachers. G. Processional to the auditorium will begin at 8:25 a.m. II. Procession A. Ushers will lead you from the gym to the auditorium. B. You will be in two lines. The person beside you will not be the person you will be sitting next to in the auditorium C. Stay in line as you process down the main hall. Remain quiet. Stand with head up in a dignified manner. D. The line on the left will enter the auditorium through the doors to the left of the center section. The line on the right will enter the doors to the right of the center section. Remain quiet in the foyer. Noise carries. E. As you enter the auditorium, remain quiet. Keep your head up and back straight. Look straight ahead with dignified behavior ignoring the audience. F. Follow the ushers. They will show you where to sit. When you get to your seat, remain standing.

Remarks from Mrs. Rix G. Awarding of Scholarships H. Recognition of Texas Scholars and Scholarship Recipients I. Recessional IV. Student Procedures for Recognitions A. Remarks from Mrs. Rix You will remain seated during this time. B. Awarding of Scholarships 1. Special guests will be presenting scholarships. 2. Listen carefully for your name to be called and move quickly to receive the award. 3. Approach the stage from the right side. Walk up steps. 4. Shake hands with Mrs. Rix and the presenter. 5. Receive the award with your left hand. 6. Exit the stage from the left side. Walk down steps. 7. Return to your seat. C. Recognition Scholarship Recipients 1. Announcer will announce student and scholarship. Student will stand and remain standing until all scholarship recipients have been recognized. 2. Announcer will ask for applause when finished and direct students to be seated. 3. Counselors will be located at the base of the right side steps to the stage. Stop at the steps. Ms. Morgan will motion when you approach the steps. 4.. When directed to do so, walk up the steps, in front of the podium. Walk to Mrs. Rix, shake hands and remain beside her while you are recognized. If you receive any document take it with your left hand as you shake hands with your right hand underneath. Remember this is a scholarship recognition so only scholarships and academic honors will be announced. (Clubs, offices, positions, etc. will not be announced) 5. When the announcer finishes your recognition exit stage left, walk down the steps and return to your seat.
6. Do not leave after you have been recognized. This is a ceremony where everyone enters and exits as a group. To leave earlier is disrespectful to the other graduates and the audience. You will recess together just as you entered. D. Recessional 1. Follow the lead from the usher. Exit as dignified as you entered. Once you are in the foyer, you may visit with your family and friends. E. All seniors are encouraged to participate even if they are not being recognized on stage. All participants will wear their gown. Senior Reminders: 1. A letter is being mailed to all graduating seniors and their parents. Included in the letter is information from Flash Photography. Flash Photography will take a picture of each senior as he/she shakes hands with Mrs. Rix on the stage at graduation. The information from Flash explains how to order this picture. 2. You will receive additional information regarding Commencement at Senior Practice on May 16. Diploma 3. All NC s must be made up by May 17. Any graduating senior who does not clear up his/her NC s or Incompletes will not graduate.
