Dear members Having been involved with Lyd Valley for the last 6½ years (6 years on committee and almost 4 years as Chairman) I feel that it is time to hand the reins over to someone else and therefore I will be stepping down with effect from the AGM. As I am sure many of you will remember when I first became Chairman the club was in a very precarious situation with talk of it folding but I am very happy to say that it is now thriving and I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength. Although I will not be at the helm I am staying on the committee but will only have the area teams under my wing. The club can only continue to thrive with your help so if you could spare some time and fancy the idea of helping to run your club please get in touch. Cath MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS Your Lyd Valley membership runs from 1 st Oct-30 th Sep which means renewals are due during September. We are delighted to be able to keep the subscription cost at the same level as the last ten years. So individual membership remains at 25 for the year with additional family members at 15 each. Please renew as promptly as you can. The membership form will be posted to you very shortly and needs to be returned to Anne Shrubshall 131 Crediton Road Okehampton EX20 1NZ along with your cheque made payable to Lyd Valley Riding Club. AGM The Annual General Meeting of the Lyd Valley Riding Club will take place on Friday 23rd October 2016 at Bridestowe Village Hall at 7.30pm for 8pm start. The AGM will be followed by a talk to be given by Dr. Kieran O Brien MA MVB (Hons) PhD MRCVS. Come along and have your say bring a bottle and a plate of food and get to know your fellow members over nibbles afterwards coffee/tea will be provided. Chairman Secretary and Treasurer all have to stand down at the meeting and be re-nominated. If you would like to nominate yourself for any of these roles please send in a letter supported by a seconder to the current secretary Amy Scrivener at Ivy Cottage 3 Fore Street Bridestowe EX20 4EL. Please do your best to attend so you can have your say in how your club moves forward. DRESSAGE COMPETITIONS Please note that our dressage series is starting on Sunday 27 th September. This is usually very well supported with classes ranging from the Introductory Test up to an Elementary. We have great feedback from these competitions so come and have a go. The poster is on our web site with all the details of dates tests to be ridden etc. Please note that entries are now to be sent to Anne Shrubshall. SUPPER AND TALK Sally and Mike Pidsley have kindly offered after a very successful evening last year to repeat the supper evening at her home at Peter Tavy. Sally is cooking chicken/beef/vegetable casserole followed by dessert. The evening will take place on Friday 19 th February 2016 starting at 7.30pm and will be followed by a Sports Psychology talk by Judith Hubbard. Tickets will be 12 a head and will be open to family members/friends as well. Space is limited so it will be on a first come first served basis. Please ring or e mail Cath for more details on 01837 861705 or cathscrivener@btinternet.com 1

SUMMER AREA QUALIFIERS Area Show Jumping Our area show jumping team consisting of Jane and Megan Groom Amy Pickard and Amy Scrivener travelled down to Chyverton at the end of June. SUMMER SHOW The Devon weather slightly got the better of our show day. The wind and rain wasn't nearly as bad as was forecasted but unfortunately it was obviously too late for people to get ready by the time that became apparent. We are very grateful to our judge Stella Hore who braved the elements and not only judged but provided excellent advice and wisdom to those who did come along. Hopefully they will have felt it was a worthwhile day. The horses and ponies all looked fantastic. Thank you for coming.
