Do you enjoy watching high school productions? If you said yes to either of these questions, than this one s for you! Hebron High School Drama Department is performing the play Grease on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, at 7pm, and Sunday, April 10th, at 2 pm! Everyone has been working extremely hard for the past several months to get the legendary music, lines, and dance moves just right for the big night. They will be wearing vintage clothing and singing the iconic songs original to the movie. This is our last performance of the year and a very special musical that promises to be a great time. We can t wait to see everyone there! It ll be peachy keen, jelly bean! Student Recognized for Art Congratulations to Kathryn Wielgus whose artwork has been selected for the 2016 IUN High School Biennial at the Gallery for Contemporary Art. Kathryn's work, entitled Flor de Madera, will be on display from Feb. 15 through March 11 at the gallery, located at 3400 Broadway in Gary.

The girls Hebron Softball Team has been preparing for the upcoming 2016 season since conditioning started last month. Coaches Craig Doelling, Leo Torres, Mike Spicer, and Troy Piat along with JV coaches Shayna Dujmovich and Mitch Starnes, have helped year round to get the girls in shape and create a strong team for the season. Although the ladies lost their only senior Daryn Torres last year, this year s seniors Brianna Spicer, Faith Holman, and Miranda Fornuto will be stepping up ready to play hard. Their first game will happen on March 29th against Lowell. The girls are planning some vengeance against Boone and are planning to steal their PCC title and win PCC. Come out and support your Hebron Girl s Softball Team! Dance On March 5th, the Hebron Dance Team went to The IHSDTA Regional Competition at Lake Central High School. Placing in the top five of their division would earn them an advancement to the State competition in Indianapolis. The girls are happy to say that they placed 3rd in the 1a jazz division and will be heading to Indy on the weekend of March 12 to compete. Good Luck girls! Baseball T H E H A W K S N E W S The Hawks Baseball team returns many core players while trying to replace a few seniors off of last year s PCC champions. This year the baseball team's biggest strength will be pitching, led by Tyler and Chad Patrick, as well as key contributions from Logan Ryan and Travis Patrick. Hebron has a scrimmage against Morgan Township on March 30th; however the official season kicks off on April 2nd at Andrean. The home opener is April 4th against the Hammond.
Spring Break P A G E 3 Spring break for 2016 starts on Monday, March 21 and goes until Friday, March 25. Sadly, the next Monday, the 28th, is no longer a snow day. Due to the blizzard that took everyone out of school for three days, students will have to attend school that day as well as Monday, April 18th, and Thursday, June 2nd. The weather is predicted to be mostly good but cloudy. This means it will be a great time to go hang out with friends and family, or just kick back and relax. Some families will be going on road trips, small trips, or maybe just going to see a movie. So, be sure to plan something for this spring break, because who knows if the weather will stay nice or become uncontrollable again! Boys Track It is still early in the season, but the boys are abuzz with anticipation and excitement. With sore muscles, jokes all around, and superb athletes ready to go, pre-season practices are in full swing. Going out whenever the weather gives its okay, the boys are focused on getting better in their individual events, as well as rounding out as a team. As of now, both the boys and girls first meet is on April 12 against Lacrosse and Covenant Christian at home. We are working hard to be in top form and we hope to see everyone there! Girls Track The girls track season officially began February 16. They prepared with some conditioning and are now ready to train for this upcoming season. There is a special new addition to the team this year: we have a new coach! Coach Mathley is a former graduate of Hebron High School, and specializes in the throwing field. However, she is helping the other areas of track and field as well. The other coaches will be Coach Walker, Coach Defries, and Coach Spurr. The team is hopeful for a successful season as these coaches are really whipping them into shape! Wish the Hebron High School Girl s Track Team good luck!
P A G E 4 BPA State Conference The Hebron Chapter of BPA attended the 49th annual Business Professionals of America Indiana Association State Leadership Conference this past week, March 6 through 8. The members that attended were: seniors Jourden Bixenman, Maddie Kleine, Madison Sohaney, and Rachel Young; juniors Andrew Briggs, Mia Riese, and Danielle Roeske; freshmen Allison Hano and Isabel Reynolds. Earning Torch Awards for their community service at the State Level were Maddie Kleine, Mia Riese, Danielle Roeske, Madison Sohaney, and Rachel Young This was a great accomplishment, since we were the second most involved chapter for Torch in the state! Andrew Briggs placed in both his Business Management open test and his Intermediate Word Processing contest. Congratulations on all the achievements! The 50th BPA National Leadership Conference will be held in Boston, Massachusetts on May 5 through 9. We are hoping to send a few members who will be able to experience the extraordinary opportunity of attending this level of leadership conference and learning first hand about the history of Boston. Since it is the 50th anniversary, they are really pulling out the stops on this one and it promises to be the best one yet! Empty Bowls T H E H A W K S N E W S Last month the school held the annual Empty Bowls, and the event had a spectacular turnout! The total number of tickets purchased was approximately 218. Every person who participated in Empty Bowls will remember it as a very special and eventful night. Some of the most memorable parts of the evening were when Mr. Lutze and his band played, as well as the excellent food prepared by donations from community members and local businesses. All of the bowls that were made were gone by the end of the night. The silent auction had a number of interesting items that added to the total donation Hebron High School is able to donate to the Hebron Country Food Pantry! We are still compiling our thank you list and tallying our donations, so we will be sure to include that information in next month s newsletter. We hope everyone enjoyed the event, and a big thank you to all the people and local businesses that made Empty Bowls possible by donating food or items for the silent auction.

P A G E 6 Students recognized H ebron High School and Porter County Vocational students Zach Hillestad and Jourden Bixenman were recognized in different events recently. Congratulations to Zach Hillestad who placed second in Accounting Applications at the regional DECA contest earlier this year. DECA is an international Career and Technical Student Organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. CAD students in the vocational program were also involved in a regional competition called Skills/USA which is also an international Career and Technical Student Organization. There were two competitions; one in Technical Computer Assisted Design and another in CAD Architecture. Jourden Bixenman qualified and she will be competing at the state level in April. What great accomplishments from two of our HHS students. You make us proud! Shibori Workshop Art Club held a Shibori workshop on January 21st in the high school art room. Art Club Members Annabell Folsom, Eric Ream, Maddie Ream, Logan Wilson, and Umaimah Fatima created stunning fabric pieces using the ancient Japanese craft of fabric tying, folding, pleating, and dyeing natural fabric.
