SNOWBOARD SLOPESTYLE SNOW PARK NZ, NEW ZEALAND 14th -17th AUGUST 2013 SNOWBOARD HALFPIPE CARDRONA ALPINE RESORT, NEW ZEALAND 21st -24th AUGUST 2013 TEAMS INVITATION Dear Snowboard Nations, We are delighted to invite all snowboard nations to the FIS Snowboard Slopestyle and Halfpipe World Cups, which will take place at Snow Park NZ and Cardrona Alpine Resort, Wanaka, NZ. These events are part of the third edition of the Winter Games New Zealand, an international biennial winter sports event based in Otago, NZ. The 2013 edition of the Winter Games NZ will take place over an 11 day period from the 15th -25th August and will feature elite winter sports competitions in Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Freesking and Snowboarding taking place at venues across the Otago region of New Zealand s South Island. Snow Park NZ features a world class Slopestyle course and Cardrona Alpine Resort is home to a 22-ft Olympic Halfpipe. The nearest township from both Snow Park NZ and Cardrona is Wanaka (34km, 35 minute drive). The nearest major airport, Queenstown, is 50km (50 minute drive). Entries for the FIS Snowboard Slopestyle and Halfpipe World Cups are open now through the FIS Website at www.fis-ski.com. Please find the athlete and team information below. Entry and Registration: There are no entry fees for the Winter Games NZ Entries will be accepted in accordance with the FIS quotas and rules for the World Cup and must be processed through the FIS Online Registration and Entry System at www.fis-ski.com. N.B. Due to number of athletes competing in the Winter Games NZ, we are not able to guarantee Team Accommodation bookings (as per WC rule art 4.2) after 1st June 2013. A 50% deposit per person is required prior to this deadline to secure your booking. Accreditation The Winter Games NZ event office will be at our Wanaka Hub which will be open for accreditation and general information from Monday the 12th 25th August 2013. The Hub will be located next door to Lake Wanaka Centre at 89 Ardmore Street in the centre of Wanaka. For more information on the Hubs see the section on Winter Games Downtown Sessions Festival. Team Captains Meetings Team Captains meetings for all Winter Games NZ Snowboard Events will take place at the Lake Wanaka Centre, 89 Ardmore St in Wanaka. Training and competition bibs will be allocated at the team captains meetings. A bib deposit of $100 per team will be required in cash at the first Team Captains Meeting. It is mandatory that all competitors wear their bibs during all official training, competition and award ceremonies. Training Advice Cardrona is home to an Olympic sized 22ft Halfpipe. Winter Games Downtown Sessions Festival We invite all athletes and team managers to attend the Winter Games Downtown Sessions Festival in Wanaka and Queenstown in our new look Hubs. We will have an extensive Downtown Sessions Festival program including music concerts, adventure film festival and more. The awards ceremonies for Snowboard and Freeski events will all take place at the Wanaka Hub. The Ceremonies are scheduled for 5pm and will be followed by live entertainment. We encourage you to visit the hubs in Wanaka and Queenstown to meet up with fellow athletes, enjoy some entertainment, have a coffee or a drink and something to eat, relax and enjoy what Winter Games New Zealand provide. The Hubs will be open all day and into the night and there will be nonstop activities at both Wanaka and Queenstown. JUCY Meltdown Closing Concert This year s closing Concert will be in Wanaka on the 25th August 2013. This will be a ticketed event. TRAVEL, TRANSPORT & ACCOMMODATION Air Travel We recommend that you book your flights as early as possible. We recommend that you fly into Queenstown. Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia are the only airlines flying directly into Queenstown. However many others come into Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Car/Van Transport We strongly recommend that teams organize their own transport to ensure full control over movement to and from the resort. Accommodation We strongly recommend the teams identify and book their own accommodation. There is a variety of travel, transport and accommodation options in Wanaka. Please go to www. lakewanaka.co.nz for information about Wanaka and accommodation options. The Accor Hotels are the official 3.5, 4 and 5 star hotel accommodation providers for the Winter Games. For more information on accommodation in Wanaka and Queenstown please go to http:// wintergamesnz.com/travel/accommodation/ Athletes and team officials who wish to book official FIS World Cup accommodation must book early. Due to number of athletes competing in the Winter Games NZ, we are not able to guarantee Team Accommodation bookings (as per WC rule art 4.2) after 1st June 2013. Balance of payment must be made on the official arrival day by cash or credit card only. Each team will be held responsible for any damage incurred during their stay. Visas Visitors from certain countries must have a visitor visa to enter New Zealand. New Zealand has a special policy for athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and support staff visiting the country to participate in sporting events. Please check on: www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/ visitors/quickcheck.htm to find out if visitors from your country require a visitor visa to enter New Zealand. Application forms for visitor visas are available on www.immigration.govt.nz or from New Zealand and Australian Consulates, Embassies or High commissions. Liability All athletes, officials and members of the National Associations who attend and participate in the event shall do so at their own risk. Winter Games NZ, sponsors and suppliers, their agents, employees and volunteers shall not be responsible for any losses or injuries incurred or suffered by the athletes, official or other person in conjunction with the organising or staging of the event. Public Liability Insurance (CHF) 3 million, for the period of the event, is in place. If you are injured in New Zealand (including whilst competing in a ski race), you may need the assistance of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), New Zealand s accident compensation scheme. ACC helps pay for your care and that means paying towards the cost of your treatment and helping your recovery while you remain in New Zealand. ACC will not cover any medical or related costs arising from the accident after you leave New Zealand. You will accordingly still need to arrange your own travel and medical insurance. New Zealand s medical facilities are not free to visitors except as a result of an accident but even in the case of an accident, surcharges in private facilities will apply.
