Welcome General Manager s Message 1 Adaptive 2 Aquatics 4-8 Cultural Arts Dance, Music & Language 9-10 The Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District, an independent special district, was formed in January 1962 under the State Public Resources Code of California. The birth of the District was approved by the voters in the Camarillo community to provide quality programs, parks and facilities that could be enjoyed by everyone. The District is located in and around the city of Camarillo, serves a population of over 70,000 and covers an area of approximately 45 square miles. It has grown from one park to 27 parks since its inception 53 years ago. Within the District, a variety of recreational facilities exist including: a senior center, an indoor aquatic center, a community center, dog parks, lighted ball fields, tennis courts, a running track, walking paths, premier soccer fields, hiking trails, picnic pavillions, children s play equipment, barbecue areas and much more. A Message from the General Manager Mary Otten Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District is focused on providing parks, recreational opportunities and programs that make a premiere community in which to discover, imagine and grow. We operate, protect and maintain 26 parks, ensuring residents and visitors alike have the opportunity to connect with the outdoors. At the same time, our programs provide educational opportunities to help our community members engage in active lifestyles. Our focus on health and wellness is our commitment to make Camarillo healthier, stronger and more active by providing easy access to parks, as well as free or low cost opportunities to recreate, swim and attend community events. As we turn the page to a new season, we hope that you will continue to enjoy all the parks, programs and special events the District has to offer. Aquatic Program Descriptions AQUATIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Aquacize Enjoy a low-impact aerobic workout taught by an instructor. Achieve your fitness goals, whether it is weight loss, improving range of motion, or general well being, with a cardio and resistance workout. Pay a single entry fee or purchase a Splash Pass. Note: The weekday morning Water Exercise Class/Deep Water is different and requires an Exercise Pass for entry. See schedule for times and fees. First class is free! Deep Water Exercise Instructor: Debbie Lopez Class is primarily taught in deep water emphasizing abdominals, strength training and cardio. A floatation belt is recommended. Participants should be comfortable in deep water. Equipment is provided on a first come first serve basis. A Water Exercise pass is needed for entry. Single entry fee of $7. Water Exercise Instructor: Debbie Lopez Work at your own pace and enjoy all the benefits of a land workout without the impact on your bones and joints. This class is taught primarily in the shallow water and integrates cardio, sculpting and strength training by using the natural resistance of the water, water dumbbells and noodles. A Water Exercise pass is needed for entry. Single entry fee of $7. Lap Swim Lap swimming times are available throughout the week (refer to pool schedule). Lap swimming times are open to all ages, as long as you can swim continually. During busy times we encourage sharing a lane or circle swimming. PV Swim Team Join the Pleasant Valley Swim Team. Practice year-round at our indoor aquatic center. Contact us at 768-4846 or visit our website at www.pvst.org for more information. Recreation/Family Swim Come slide down our 65 foot water slide (7+ years of age) and jump as high as you can on our diving board. All ages welcome. For the safety of our patrons, a swim test is required to use our slide and diving board. Therapeutic Swim This time is designated for individuals who are not able to lap swim or participate in more advanced exercise classes due to physical reasons. Therapeutic Swim is for individual exercise and is not lead by an instructor. This swim time is shared with other programs. This is not a therapy pool and the water temperature ranges from 80-82 degrees. Toddler Time This time is set aside for toddlers and their parent to enjoy swimming in a non-structured environment. Active in-water supervision is required. Enjoy toys in the shallow water near the stairs. Children who are not potty trained must wear a swimming diaper and plastic/ vinyl briefs (diaper cover) with elastic around the legs and waist. This swim time is shared with other programs. AMERICAN RED CROSS COURSES CPR/AED Adult and Child Ages: 15+ Cost: $79 This course is to teach students to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants and to use an AED. Materials provided. 7006.002 4-8pm Th 5/14 Standard First Aid Ages: 15+ Cost: $32 Standard First Aid will teach you the basics on how to deal with hot/cold emergencies, shock, stroke awareness, injuries such as cuts, bruises, chemical burns, heat burns and much more. 7006.001 8-9pm Th 5/14 Lifeguard Training Ages: 15+ Cost: $179 Upon successful completion of this class you will be certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. The following prerequisites will be tested at the pool on the first day of class: 300 yard swim, tread water without the use of hands, retrieve a 10 lb. object from depth of 7+ feet, and other required skills. Participants will be required to complete online work in addition to completing all water skills. $35.00 lab fee due prior to 1st class. 7005.104 2-7pm M-Th 3/30-4/2 7006.003 4-9pm Th/F 5/21,22,28,29 05 Lifeguard Tryouts Must be 16 or older to apply Join the Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center team by trying out to be a lifeguard. Be prepared to swim 300 yards, tread water with a 10 lb. brick, and demonstrate your knowledge of lifeguarding by completing multiple rescue scenarios. Must have current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding Certifications. Bring your completed application, supplemental form and certifications to your tryout. Interview to follow directly after tryout. Aquatics Aquatic Classes/ Swimming Lessons Stroke Clinic Ages: 14+ Cost: $10 Need some help with your swim technique? This drop-in clinic is designed to help lap swimmers improve their swim stroke. No registration required. Sunday 4/19 1-3pm Sunday 5/17 1-3pm Freestyle Workshop: For Swimmers & Triathletes Ages: 15+ Cost: $99 Instructor: Brittany Oliver Take your swimming to a new level this season by enhancing your efficiency & confidence in the water. Train effectively with drills and workouts for beginner to intermediate swimmers & triathletes. Prerequisite: Swim 50 yards unassisted. No class 5/25 7006.140 6-7am M/W 5/4-6/1 Camp Active Ages: 7-12 Cost: $99 Explore different sports and fun activities with our new four week Camp Active! Activities include: water polo, swimming, soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, baseball and more! Sunscreen, water, tennis shoes and swim suit required. 7006.012 3:30-5pm T/Th 5/5-5/28 PADI Instructor: Bret Niedens Professional Association of Diving Instructors PADI classes meet one time only Skin Diver/Snorkeling Ages: 8+ Cost: $30 This is an introduction course to snorkeling. Prerequisites: participants should have good intermediate swimming skills be able to float/tread for 5 minutes and comfortably swim the length of the pool without floatation assistance. This is not a certification course. Student must be 8 years old by class start date. 7006.004 10:45-12:15pm Sa 4/18 PADI Seal Team Ages: 8-12 Cost: $55 The PADI Seal Team is for young divers who are looking for action-packed fun in a pool by doing exciting scuba Aqua Missions. Students learn the basics of diving-things like buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, etc. Student must be 8 years old by class start date. 7006.006 9-10:30am Sa 4/18 PADI Discover Scuba Ages: 10+ Cost: $55 This is an introduction course to scuba diving for anyone who is interested in learning about and using real scuba equipment. Students dive in a supervised environment and all equipment is provided. This is not a certification course. Student must be 10 years old by class start date. 7006.008 12:30-2:00pm Sa 4/18 PADI-Scuba Private Session Cost: $75 Enjoy one on one instruction with the dive instructor. Aquatics Swimming Lessons SWIMMING LESSONS SWIMMING LESSON REFUND POLICY Please plan your schedule carefully in order to keep refunds and transfers to a minimum. Due to the popularity of our lessons, refund requests must be made one week prior to the start date of the class. Refunds will not be granted after the class begins. Failure to attend a class or no shows will not be granted a refund, transfer, or make up lesson. All refunds and transfers will be charged $5. To request a refund call (805) 482-1996. Adult Learn to Swim - Beginning Learn basic water safety, conquer your fear and improve your swimming ability. Learn to float, glide and swim front crawl.
