1. RULES 1.1. The regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, and the rules of PHRF San Diego. 1.2. All boats entering PHRF divisions must have a current Handicap certificate from either PHRF San Diego or PHRF Southern California. 1.3 Boats Eligible under the Ed Cotter PHRF San Diego Championship Notice of Race (separate document) will be scored accordingly for that event. 1.4. J/105s Fleet 8 rules, J/80 Fleet 4 rules, and J/120 Fleet 4 rules will be in effect. J/70 Rules I.1 and I.3 of J/70 Class Rules, Part III-Section I shall apply. Fast 50 Class rules will be in effect. 1.5. Marine Industry Representatives will be governed by the class rules for the class in which they are sailing. For ORR, and PHRF classes, any rules governing the participation of Marine Industry Representatives are waived. 1.6. US Sailing Prescriptions to 60.3, 63.2 and 63.4 will not apply. 1.7. San Diego Yacht Club is the Organizing Authority. 2. ADVERTISING 2.1. Advertising is un-restricted subject to ISAF Regulation 20.2 and 20.3. 2.2. Boats may be required to display bow stickers for the duration of the event (ISAF Reg 20.4) 3. ELIGIBILITY 3.1. The regatta is open to sailboats with a LOA of 20 feet or greater which either measure into a One Design fleet entered in Yachting Cup or have a current PHRF certificate. 3.2. Current membership in PHRF San Diego or PHRF SoCal is required for all PHRF competitors. 3.3. Official Handicap Division Breaks will be determined by the Organizing Authority. Provisional breaks may be posted prior to the event. 3.4. Boats participating in the Ed Cotter PHRF San Diego Championship will be grouped according to PHRF San Diego fleet breaks. Additional boats may be added to those classes for Yachting Cup scoring. 3.5. Three entries are needed to form a class prior to 1700, Monday, April 27. 3.6. One design classes or established handicap classes with six (6) or more paid entries prior to the close of entries (April 27) will receive their own start and compete as their own class/division. 3.7. At the discretion of the OA, classes with three (3) to five (5) competitors may start/compete within the most appropriate PHRF division, and be scored both in that division and as a subclass, or may be given their own start and compete as their own class/division if space permits. 4. ENTRY 4.1. Eligible boats may enter online at www. yachtingcup.com. 4.2. Entries close Monday, April 27, 2015 @ 1700. Entries submitted after entries close will be accepted at the discretion of the organizing authority and assessed a $100 late entry fee if accepted. 4.3. A $65 entry discount is available for entries received prior to 1700 on March 4, 2015. 5.2. To determine fees, a boat s LOA should be rounded to the lower whole number (35 8 = 35 ): Boats sized 32 = $175 ($110 prior to 3/4) Boats sized 33' 45 = $225 ($160 prior to 3/4) Boats sized > 46 = $300 ($235 prior to 3/4) 5.3. Payment online () may be made by credit card, or by SDYC member charge. 6. CLASSES 6.1. Competitors will be divided into the following categories: 6.2. One Design Class Racing with separate starts for fleets with six or more entries. 6.5. Any group of three or more boats, desiring to be scored as a subclass, may submit a written petition to the organizing authority for acceptance as a class or subclass prior to 1700, Friday, April 1, 2015. 7. Sunday, May 3 1130 Warning signal for all venues After Racing Trophy Ceremony for Yachting Cup will follow as soon as possible after the conclusion of racing (Sailwash Lawn). 8. COURSES 8.1. One race is scheduled for Friday. It will start in vicinity of the east end of Harbor Island. The course will be a Random Leg Course in north San Diego Bay. For PHRF Classes, PHRF RLC ratings will be used. For ORR classes, Point Point ratings will be used.
8.2. Seven races are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The courses will be W/L courses. For PHRF Classes, PHRF Buoy ratings will be used. For ORR classes W/L ratings will be used. 9. MEASUREMENT Each boat competing in a handicap class shall possess a valid rating certificate from the appropriate rating authority. 10. SAILING AREA AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 10.1. On Friday only, the sailing area will be inside San Diego Bay. 10.2. The Warning Signal for racing on Friday will be at 1600. 10.3. On Saturday and Sunday, racing venues in Coronado Roads and South San Diego bay featuring windward-leeward courses of varying lengths will be provided. 10.4. The Warning Signal for all venues on Saturday and Sunday will be at 1130. 10.5. Official Sailing Instructions, Course Assignments and Starting Order will be available at Check Ins detailed in NOR 7 and on the event website as soon as available. 11. SCORING 11.1. Handicap scoring for PHRF Corrected time = Time on Distance. 11.2. Handicap scoring for ORR Corrected time = elapsed time x TCC. 11.3. A total of eight races are scheduled for Friday through Sunday. The Race Committee may run more or fewer races each day to accomplish the scheduled number of races. 11.4. For all classes, three completed races will constitute a series; a boat s worst race score will be excluded when four or more races are completed. 12. PRIZES 12.1. Trophies for each class dependant on number of entries. 12.2. Trophies will be presented on the Sailwash Lawn of San Diego Yacht Club as soon as possible at the conclusion of racing on Sunday. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The Yachting Cup is registered with Sailors for the Sea as a Clean Regatta. As such, all competitors attention is drawn to the second Basic Principle of the Racing Rules of Sailing - Environmental Responsibility, which states: Participants are encouraged to minimize any adverse environmental impact of the sport of sailing.
SOCIAL Friday Night: Beginning at 1900 a semi-formal, invite only party for skippers, tacticians and their spouses will be hosted. Invitations will be sent by email. Friday Night: Also Beginning at 1900, a casual, crew welcome party will be hosted with food and drink on the front deck of San Diego Yacht Club. Saturday Night: After racing, the bar, deck and restaurant area of SDYC will host a fun party for all competitors, guests and SDYC members. BERTHING, STORAGE and PARKING San Diego Yacht Club is pleased to offer free mooring at our docks to all registered Yachting Cup competitors who's yacht's home port is outside of San Diego. Free mooring will begin on Saturday, April 25 and go through Monday, May 4. Boats must register with David Servais via e-mail at david@sdboatworks.com prior to April 17 to ensure dock space. Each registered yacht that is not of SDYC registry will receive a parking pass that will entitle one vehicle to park in the SDYC lot from April 25 through May 4. SDYC will attempt to make available parking lot space for race boats with equipment trailers 26' and shorter. Please contact David Servais for more info.
