Well, it starts but won t throttle up. I have already replaced the fuel pump, so I guess its time to look somewhere else. Actually, I borrowed the fuel pump from another aircraft, so in one sense I m glad it s not that since they sell for about 200. I did get to enjoy some flying anyway, since George Jones needed a buddy to fly the tow plane for his glider. We took turns flying the two planes. I can t believe this is my first at both of these aircraft. Makes you think about getting a glider. 1

Another engine I can t get running is the Saito 450R3 in my Lanier Yak 54. I bought an ignition system for it but that didn t help. So I grabbed some tools and tore it down to the crankcase. There you have it. By now, a number of you have been to the field to see the new gravel that was placed. Actually Greg Kloepper and George Jones did all the work. They first prepped and repaired the drain pipe that was starting to show, and then they took turns leveling it with Greg s lawn tractor. We put down one load of AB3 and topped it with a load of washed rock. I think it looks great. So a big Thank You to Greg and George. Oh, have you ever seen a motor like this before? Some of you collectors like Suman might have. There has been some talk again about the possibility of purchasing and installing a solar powered electrical system at the field. I think Gary Webber has been doing some research into this and may have some more info at the Aug. club meeting this Sat. Last month I stopped at the field one day and saw Suman s very large Telemaster. It featured a glider mounted to the top of the fuselage as well. This miniature Harley Style engine is called an Enya VT 240. It was acquired to fit in the Top Flite T-34 that I keep wanting to build. It will actually fit in the cowl better than anything else I have tried, but it s just too big and heavy, and it won t clear the retract support. Imagine for a minute, a 2.4 c.i. engine in a 90 size airframe. Who said, you can never have too much power? 2

Here is a closer photo showing the arrangement for carrying and releasing the glider. It has a Saito 1.80 for power. The Bally Bomber Just in case you were wondering, from what I can get off their website, I don t think they have flown the 1/3 scale B-17 bomber shown below. As you might remember, this is not an RC airplane, but one that will be flown by an actual onboard pilot. * * * * * * Nate Ericson gave me some old literature and club history that he had in his file and I noticed that there are only 6 members today who were members in 1989. That was 25 years ago. Can you imagine 25 years from now; I know I won t be here, so somebody else will be writing the newsletter that s for sure. * * * * * * A C-130 was lumbering along one day when a cocky F-16 pilot flashed by. The jet jockey decided to show off. The fighter pilot told the C-130 pilot, watch this! and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that? The C-130 pilot said, That was impressive, but watch this! The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said, What did you think of that? Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, What the heck did you do? The C- 130 pilot chuckled. I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the back, took a leak, then got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. July19 Club Meeting We had our first meeting at the new Hy-Vee location, and I think it went pretty well. We had 23 in attendance including new member Gregg Myer from Baldwin. We need to make a few adjustments with the furniture so we can hold more people, but I think everyone is pretty excited about the new venue over all. Welcome Gregg to the Jayhawk Model Masters, one of many fine clubs in Kansas. John LaGesse gave the treasurer s report; it was showing a net worth of $6334.25. I just realized, If we all volunteered to put in $100 this year for our regular membership dues, we might have enough money to have Westar power without doing a fund drive. Not mandatory, just on a volunteer basis. The Safety report was by Darrel Cordle. He reminded us that we are all safety officers, and that we should fly the pattern and use the card slot frequency board even with 2.4. 3

The club has an inventory of hats, and they are available for $12. Someone mentioned that the Franklin County Flyers were having a Fly-In the day of our meeting, but we didn t get the memo in time to go. Perhaps someone went and can report at the August meeting. It was brought up that we needed a new weed-eater at the field. I believe Bill Elkins agreed to pay for it, and I think it is now in inventory. It was determined that the field was sprayed Fred Heinecke with a 24D mix, but may need another application. We also discussed the addition of gravel to the parking lot; job done. Show & Tell First up for show and tell was Dave Alexander with a new L80QX Quad Copter that he recently purchased at Dee and Mee s hobby store. It fly s on a 1S 500 mah Lipo and features 6 flight modes and an included camera. He said he talked his wife Helen into getting it to plot the garden. She said, You better get it! At the meeting this Sat. I understand that someone is bringing one of the Quad Copters that are sold by Vorizon Wireless. The raffle this Sat. is an Evolution.46 engine. Lester Smith won the Gal-O-Fuel raffle because Patrick Deuser and Kirk Kloepper were not present to win. As we were trying sell more raffle tickets for the JR radio raffle, someone said, Hey Patrick isn t here, so we all have a better chance of winning Another said, He ll still win!!! Nuff Said. Nate Ericson won the radio, but put it back for a re-raffle, and jokingly said, Can I have my $5 back? After all that, Lester Smith won it below Suman Sarapalli came to show a 1936 design Wakefield. Covered in tissue, the 9 oz. model was originally designed for rubber power. Suman has a 15 gram 1 amp motor in it with a 3S 800 mah Lipo. This Model of-the Month winner puts the brakes on when the prop stops. 4
