CHANGES FOR 2015 PROVINCIAL TEAM SELECTION SYSTEM - SPARRING (PLEASE READ): Some changes to the Provincial Team System have been implemented. The purpose of these changes is to encourage active participation from Ontario Taekwondo athletes, increase prestige in the Provincial Team, and raise the standard of competition for our Provincial Championship (Final Game) to make it the highest level tournament within Ontario Taekwondo. Provincial Team Selection will consist of three events: * Two (2) Qualification Tournaments June 28-29, 2 nd Qualification TBA * OTA Final Ranking Game (Provincial Championships, Round Robin) /location TBA Provincial Qualification Tournaments #1 and #2 will be open to all Cadet, Junior and Senior eligible athletes in the WTF weight classes. Youth and U-10 sparring will not be contested at Provincial Qualifiers. Citizenship Canadian Citizenship is no longer a requirement to compete at Provincial level. We understand that there are athletes living in Ontario who are still awaiting citizenship and we do not want to take away the opportunity for competition experience for these athletes. Citizenship is a requirement to compete at the National level. Any athletes who become eligible for OTA support need to register for Nationals to receive it, so it will just default to the next eligible qualified athlete. ATHLETES WHO DO NOT HAVE CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP MUST BE A PERMANENT RESIDENT OF CANADA. A COPY OF PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD MUST BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Residency & Representation Athletes who have competed for another province within the past 12 months at a national level must provide proof of Ontario residency to OTA if asked, before registration is complete. In addition, any athletes who compete at Provincial Qualification agree that they intend to represent Ontario at the next National Championships. For more information on what is accepted as a valid proof of residency please contact otatkdinfo@gmail.com. Point Distribution & Participation Points All currently ranked athletes carry over one-quarter (1/4) of their existing ranking points into this new season. OTA will no longer be issuing ten (10) participation points for nationals or international open events, only performance points. National Participation Points will be reduced to the equivalent of Provincial events. Participation Points will be reduced but still issued for events where the athlete is a member of the official National Team of Canada (ie World Championships, Junior World Championships, Olympic Qualification etc.). A complete outline of the points procedure is available in the 2015 Point Ranking System document. This document will be posted on the OTA web no later than June 13, 2014. Tournament Format: Qualification Events #1 and #2 Single Elimination competition. Certificates will be issued for 1 st, 2 nd and two (2) 3 rd place finishers at these events. Open to all eligible athletes. Provincial Championships Round Robin competition. Open to the Top 5 ranked athletes in each cadet, junior and senior weight category following the completion of the 2 nd Qualification Event. The category in which the athlete is ranked in immediately following completion of the 2 nd Qualification Event will be the category they will be invited to for the Provincial Championships. No change of divisions is permitted. Please Note: The athlete may choose to change his or her weight class for the 2015 Canadian National Championships. The top three (3) ranked athletes at the conclusion of the Provincial Championships will be the Ontario Team (Team A). They will receive gold, silver and bronze medals, the official OTA outfit & uniform (upon registration for National Championships) and be eligible for OTA support if available (TBA). Any athletes who compete at either qualification event will be Team B of the Ontario Team, these athletes will be eligible to compete at National Championships also but will not receive the OTA outfit or uniform or be eligible for any available OTA support. Point Ranking Updates will be posted on the OTA web and social media upon completion of each event which allows for point accumulation throughout the season. Poomsae Ranking System will follow the existing Provincial Point Ranking System.

If the #1 ranked athlete is not present, the #1 seeding will default to the next ranked athlete and so forth. If all athletes in the division have no ranking points, there will be no top seed. The remainder of the bracket will be randomly drawn. Athletes who register under the same club/team affiliation will be separated in the first round of the bracket only, when possible (due to number of athletes in a division + seeding, this may not always be possible).
