Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Keep body parts and loose clothing away from moving parts. PURPOSE OF THIS MANUAL This manual is intended to familiarize all personnel with the safe operation and maintenance procedures for the following Southwire Tools and Equipment: Maxis Grips. Keep this manual available to all personnel. Replacement manuals are available upon request at no charge at www.southwiretools.com. DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION The Maxis Grips uses a double lock system to securely attach electrical cable to pulling rope for quick and secure cable pulling into conduit or cable tray.. SET UP AND OPERATION 1. Check the Size Guide to determine the correct Maxis Grip to use. 2. Ensure the cams inside the housing and the lock ring is in the down position (Fig 1) 3. Push wire up through the Cam Head and through Double Braided Mesh. Leave at least one inch of room at the end of the mesh (Fig 2). 4. Add a few wraps of electrical tape around Lock Rings for added protection (Fig 3). 5. Secure rope clevis to Grips pulling eyes and pulling rope. Rope size will determine which rope clevis to use (Fig 4). 6. To prolong the life of the Grips secure conductors and Grips together with tape. Keep Grips clean by reversing the first layer of tape with the sticky side up then reverse the taping with the sticky side down (Fig 5). 7. Ready to feed wire. SET UP AND OPERATION MAXIS PULLING JACKET (Optional) 1. When using the Maxis Pulling Jacket follow steps 1-4 from above. 2. Use your discretion when choosing the correct jacket size. 3. Place Grips and wire into Jacket, feed pulling eyes through top opening (Fig 6). 4. Attach rope clevis to Grip pulling eyes and Jacket pulling eyes (Fig 7). 5. Roll up Jacket tightly closing the hook and loop material securely around the Maxis Grips (Fig 8). 6. Attach rope to Rope Clevis (Fig 4). 7. Ready to feed wire (Fig 9). 8. WARNING: Maxis Jacket should only be used in conduit 3 or larger. Make sure there is enough room in conduit for Grips, wire and Jacket, use your discretion. Use your discretion when choosing the correct jacket size. 3. Place Grips and wire into Jacket, feed pulling eyes through top opening (Fig 6). 4. Attach rope clevis to Grip pulling eyes and Jacket pulling eyes (Fig 7). 5. Roll up Jacket tightly closing the hook and loop material securely around the Maxis Grips (Fig 8). 6. Attach rope to Rope Clevis (Fig 4). 7. Ready to feed wire (Fig 9). 8. WARNING: Maxis Pulling Jacket should only be used in conduit 3 or larger. Make sure there is enough room in conduit for Grips, wire and Jacket, use your discretion. 7 8

Additional Help Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Fig. 9 1. Use the right size Grip with your wire by using the Maxis Grip Size Guide. 2. Small clevis is rated for 6,000lbs. Large clevis is rated at 10,000lbs. 3. When possible use the smaller rope clevis and pulling jacket. 4. Don t use the Maxis Pulling Jacket in conduit smaller than 3 in O.D. 5. If using AA Grips for smaller runs or ground wire be sure to wrap electrical tape around cable and wire mesh for added security. 6. Complete Grips sets include extra Lock Rings, however if a lock ring is not available wrap a few rounds of electrical tape around the Cam Housing before and after the wire is inserted. 7. When using parallel reels attached the first conductor to the shortest grip and then cut off the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th conductor at 6, 12, and 18 to accommodate the Grips stagger. If they become loose or broken please replace. WARRANTY ON SOUTHWIRE CONTRACTOR EQUIPMENT What Does This Warranty Cover? Five-Year Limited Warranty on Contractor Equipment Under Southwire s Contractor Equipment 5-Year Limited Warranty, Southwire Company, LLC warrants that all Southwire Contractor Equipment will be free from manufacturer defects for a period of five (5) years from the date of the original end user s purchase. However, electrical components and consumable parts such as ropes, blades, dies, draw studs, grips, are excluded from this 5-Year Limited Warranty and are subject to the One -Year warranty terms. Under this 5-Year Limited Warranty, the following are also excluded and Southwire Company, LLC will have no liability for any of the following: normal wear and tear resulting from product use and damage arising out of misuse, abuse, modification, and improper product maintenance. This warranty also does not cover Southwire Contractor Equipment products that have been modified by any party other than Southwire Company, LLC or its authorized third party designee. This 5-Year Limited Warranty is not transferrable to or enforceable by any person other than the product s original end user. Warranty Claim Information/How Do You Get Service? Upon approval, Southwire will issue a Product Return Authorization Form which will include instructions on how and where to return the product. The product serial number and the original date of delivery must be set forth on the Product Return Authorization Form. 3. Southwire will cover standard freight charges (Ground Courier Rate) incurred in connection with products that Southwire ultimately determines to be defective. 4. All defective components and defective products that Southwire replaces under these Warranties will become Southwire s property and will be retained by Southwire. One-Year Limited Warranty on Electrical Components and Consumable Parts (with 5-Year warranty) Under Southwire s 1-Year Limited Warranty, Southwire Company, LLC warrants that all electrical components and consumable parts such as ropes, blades, dies, draw studs, grips will be free from manufacturer defects for a period of one-year from the date of the original end user s purchase. Under this 1-Year Limited Warranty, Southwire Company, LLC will have no liability for any of the following: normal wear and tear resulting from product use and damage arising out of misuse, abuse, modification, and improper product maintenance. SOUTHWIRE MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, OTHER THAN THE RELEVANT WARRANTY SPECIFICALLY SET FORTH IN THIS WARRANTY SECTION.
