Tournament Rules 1. All matches will be played according to the APTA rules. See below for list of frequently misunderstood rules and local interpretations. Each hut commander will have a copy of the Official Rules. In the event of a major dispute, the Tournament Chairman will have the final say. 2. All matches will be the best of three sets, including the Men's Championship Finals. All sets played will employ the 12-point 6-6 tie-breaker, except the final set of the regular event finals (See following page). 3. All matches will start at the designated time. Overruns may cause some delay, but you are responsible to be at the appointed court at the appointed time. A team that is more than 15 minutes late will be defaulted, unless reasonable cause can be given for delay. 4. Hut Commanders have been assigned to each club. They will do their best to answer questions regarding subsequent match times and places, tournament rules, directions, transportation, etc. 5. Please check in for each match with the Hut Commander. 6. Foot faults, lines, and over-the-net will be called by individual players. 7. Specific Tournament Play Rules: a. Rule 18(d), A team loses the point if: a player touches or strikes the ball more than once in making a stroke, or makes overlong contact with the ball. (THUS MAKING BOTH A DOUBLE HIT AND A CARRY ILLEGAL). b. You make the calls on your side and your opponents on theirs. If you ask your opponent how he saw one on your side, you must then accept his opinion. c. Calls should be instantaneous. If you can't make an immediate call, then the ball is good. d. When any doubt exists, the call goes to the opponent. When one partner sees it good, doubt has been established and the ball should be considered good. e. In all cases, a let shall be played if, when returning a serve, one player of the receiving team calls the ball out and the other player of the receiving team calls the serve good. f. Unless all four players agree to stay with the old ball, a new ball should be put into play in the third and final set. g. In case of extreme weather and poor visibility during a match: leave the court, report partial score to the Hut Commander and await further directions from the Hut Commander. Partial scores will stand as played. h. There are no lets on the serve. The ball must be played and any calls of let, by either team, must be ignored. No let shall be given for players who forget the new rule. 12-Point Tie-Breaker At six games all, the players continue to serve in order and from the same side as before. The server of the first point of the tie-breaker will serve only one point and that to the Ad Court. Each player will then, in normal service rotation, serve twice; first to the Deuce Court and then to the Ad Court. The single point served by the initial server results in an immediate change of sides and teams will continue to change sides in the normal pattern as if the server had served an entire game. The first team to win seven points wins the set, although if the score reaches six points all, the team must win by two points. The set shall be scored as 7-6. The team receiving service for the first point of the tie-breaker shall begin serving the next set from the opposite side from which it received the first point. The teams shall change sides after the first game.
